Keanu Reeves doubled his presence in Cyberpunk 2077 because he enjoyed it so much

Johnny Silverhand, Keanu Reeves' character in Cyberpunk 2077, shows up a lot more than was originally planned thanks to the John Wick actor. Johnny actually lives inside protagonist V's head, on a chip, so he can turn up anywhere, but it turns out that Reeves pushed for him to have a larger role.

At Lucca Comics and Games festival, Italian voice actor Luca Ward told journalist Gian Luca Rocco that his recording time had been doubled thanks to his Canadian counterpart. Reeves was apparently enjoying himself so much he talked CD Projekt Red into giving the virtual rock star a bigger presence.

Huh, reading the OP, and I don't know if I used to know this and forgot, but did everyone know Keanu was Canadian?

In Canada people know, but we're always proud of our famous exports. Martin Short, both Ryan's (Gosling and Reynolds), Rachel McAdams etc.

I think he also considered chasing a hockey career because he was a really good goalie in his teens.

I kinda suspected, as in the original gameplay demo the character creator kinda looked like you could choose 1 of 3 people that would be “in your head” and Johnny Silverhand was one of the options I think iirc. Maybe they made him the only one.

He seems like such a nice fit in Cyberpunk. Some celebrity appearances seem shoehorned, but I really like the casting here.

Johnny Silverhand was already in the first edition of the tabletop game Cyberpunk 2013. Someone clearly knew even in 1988, just look at the likeness:

He is supposed to be a pretty big figure in the Cyberpunk Red lore too. My only knowledge about it is the (German) GameStar video summary.

That sucks if true. I mean I like Keanu, but I also like having choices in RPGs

Should’ve just scrapped the player character and let us play as Keanu Reeves instead.
Every time I see him it doesn’t even look like him anyway. So sure.

Keanu is a whole mix of things including British and Chinese-Hawaiian. You’d be surprised to hear he almost had his name changed to a stage name called Chuck Spadina.

Would be hilarious if all the NPC's in the game were voiced by Keanu, and all the billboards in all the cities had Keanu's face on it, and vehicles are known as "Keanu-wheels", and all restaurants are Taco Bell.

Now that he has a taste, it's the perfect opportunity for Kojima to swoop in for a new best friend and a new game idea.

Yessss, I want an all-Keanu universe. All characters are Keanu. Keanu performs and sings the soundtrack. And it comes with Keanu flavored drink mix!
