Because you're demonstrating how quick you are to make her pain about you and how you didn't like a movie?

Criticizing thread derailment because of TLJ plot point discussion seems valid to me, but a passing "Well I mean I didn't like her character either but Jesus Christ that's not how you treat other human beings" seems 100% appropriate and relevant to me, and it comes off as far too needlessly aggressive to try and demonize those sorts of posts. Like, what is actually wrong with this?
Because you're demonstrating how quick you are to make her pain about you and how you didn't like a movie?
No thanks, think I got the measure of you.Never made her "pain about me" and I liked the film on a 2nd view. I'm defending her stance. View my post history.
How? I really feel this is derailing this further but come on dude it really doesn't.
Nothing about TLJ should matter in this case.
Cuz it prioritizes TLJ criticism over what the thread is actually about, Tran being driven off of Instagram because of her gender, race and physical appearance.
Also, "I love/hate the character of Rose" literally leads to thread derailment by relitigating EP8. I regret entertaining it at all in this thread when people started comparing her to Jar Jar and spouting off that they hate her or that she's shit.
Like why would we even be talking about that in a thread about someone being harassed off of the internet.
But this thread has nothing to do with TLJ plot points or whether or not you think she was good in the film. Valid criticisms aren't what drove her off of fucking Instagram.
I loved her in TLJ and the hate she gets is overblown to an absurd degree
She doesn't deserve any of this shit.
I think people should be able to put their ego aside and speak up against online harassment without including their opinion on the movie being bad. There are plenty of other places to talk about that where it doesn't distract from, or worse, justify the harassment.
Fucking hell. She seems so sweet outside of the movie too. I loved her in TLJ and the hate she gets is overblown to an absurd degree
She doesn't deserve any of this shit.
TLJ got a lot people showing their asses though that's for sure.
I bet you there will be people in this thread who will express hate for her character too

That's where it ends up.

The "not all Scotsmen" defense, eh?
Sorry, but it's time to accept that an alarming percentage of Star Wars fans, and nerds in general, are vile, misogynist, racist pieces of shit. If those particular assholes were the only nerds stuffed into lockers and left there in the 80's, the world would be a better place.
I wonder what the crossover is with people who needed those signs about the silence during the holdo maneuver. So people really now think that the actor playing is the "same, not acted person" IRL.

Right. Take his Battlefield example. Those guys are assholes AND fans of the game, especially when they are going to be staying up to the wee hours of the morning playing a game while spewing racist and sexist vitriol. Those guys didn't casually wander into a Best Buy and buy the game to spend all their free time on because they aren't gamers...Oddly familiar just like on gaming side folks get all up in arms when the word gamer is invoked
I don't think that would cause any fuss. We all know the actual reason why she gets harassed, right?
She didn't get driven out because people thought she was bad though. She's been dealing with racist and sexist shit for months, which is an underlying factor in someone choosing to harass her off Instagram. We already had somebody get banned in this very thread for commenting on her looks.Because it's a major factor in why this even happened. We've seen it happen before with Jake Lloyd. It's not prioritizing whatever dumb opinion over the fact that someone has been facing endless harassment, it's recognizing that some people are fucking crazy and take whatever dumb opinion about a fucking space movie they saw way too far. The point that everyone is making is this: Regardless of opinion on a character, one should never harass an actor. The posts condemning that as "embarrassing" or telling people they need to get their priorities straight comes from those poster's own perception that people are seriously trying to make the thread about TLJ point discussion (Most aren't.) I don't really know if it comes from a place of defensiveness or a place of feigned moral superiority, but it's quite ridiculous. Again, these people are already agreeing with you that what's happening to KMT is fucking awful. Trying to assert yourself as higher as those posters is petty, arrogant, and missing the point entirely.
I did and I shouldn't have even mentioned her character, you're right. I was trying to interject some positivity before people started up with the same extreme/negative talking points. I didn't even realize that I did it. But my first reaction wasn't to voice my opinion on Rose, it was to comment on how fucked up the situation is.In fairness, you yourself came in with side points about the film, fans hating on it, and what they'd be talking about whilst also condemning these shit's actions. See above, apologies for the quotes being out of order somewhat.

I know him as the man that begrudgingly said yes to GL way too many times, haha.but those same man children don't even know who the fuck Rick McCallum is
I edited my post too, not sure if you saw. But I'm just tired of the hyperbolic negativity and people feeling the need to relitigate TLJ before caring about what actually happened in the OP.Absolutely, positivity is definitely important. Hopefully there are people reaching out to her in support to help drown out that negativity
This really isn't about fandom though. I guarantee you that the vast majority of Star Wars fans who disliked her character for whatever reason, didn't take to instagram and harass her over it
Anybody who feels the need to clarify that they hated The Last Jedi or Rose in this thread should get their priorities checked.
What did her character do? Enlightenment please. I didnt watch Last Jedi
We became that when we harassed a poor nine-year old kid who got so much hate he became disillusioned with Star Wars, and now lives a life of petty crime. This is just icing on the shit-flavoured cake.
I didn't see it either, but going by the Rogue One thread at the old site, I'd say her character committed the grave sin of being Asian.

She also ruined people's Rey and Finn ship how dare she!!!!! >____>
So glad you qualified you position on the film and how much you dislike it I was curious to know how much you hated it before you called out how bad this all is...
The last bit of your post is all that's required really.

Anyone who prioritizes defending their darling movie over accepting that people expressing sympathy for the actress and disgust for this behaviour despite their ideas on the movie as a qualifier for their opinion (and to highlight the idea that no matter what you think about the movie and the character this is absolutely unaccepable) are the ones who are wearing their priorities on their sleeve.
Here you have people who are expressing sympathy for the actress and the usual suspects try to dictate how they do and make the topic the umpteen defence of the movie because criticizing it is the really unacceptable. It's bizzarre to see the TLJ Defence force being almost gleefully content of the abuse Tran is going through because it gives them the umpteen chance to throw vitriol at people who are critic about the movie. And that's the kind of priority that needs to be checked, honestly.
The only thing that matter here is that the poor woman had to suffer the attentions of the worst kind of fans, and "I hated the movie but your character wasn't the problem" and "I hated the movie but I'd still stand against the stuff you had to suffer" are perfectly acceptable messages of support, expecially for a movie as divisive as TLJ. Critics being vocal in their support for Tran is important because it shuts down the idea that everyone who didn't like the movie automatically hates the character of Rose or worse her actress.
