I'm good. Watched the Easy Allies one instead and know all I need to. Media blackout from here on in.

Kinda Funny is last to literally everything because of their Patreon nonsense. By the time Gamescast rolls around I've heard every possible take, whether it's from Kotaku Splitscreen and Waypoint Radio, or just the multitude of gaming personalities on Twitter.

Greg went on the Gamespot podcast and talked about TLOU2.

So Gamescast is also not the first place we can hear Greg's thoughts on the game.

"If you want to hear our opinion, listen to another company's show before ours".

Yeah nothing wrong with their Patreon model at all.

Today's KF podcast was interesting. Greg said he does not look at views on youtube anymore, he cares about Patreon, etc, but then no mention of the Patreons being down this year.

Make. A. Playstation. Podcast.

It is what built your career. It is what the people want. Even Colin figured that out and it turned his patreon around.

Exactly. I started watching KF because they were PlayStation guys. Now with Greg "I'm an Xbox Fanboy" Miller not wanting to "alienate" a part of their viewership they end up catering to no one so no one feels invested.

Yep, a PlayStation podcast needs to happen. I'd also be keen for a Tim-led Nintendo podcast if he committed to spending more time with the big releases. His depth of analysis is consistently the most underrated and underused aspect of their shows.

Something focused would be nice. They are all over the place. I wish they should go back to just the core shows and stop with the 4.0 stuff. They are spread way too thin & it's not sustainable.

Star Wars discussion on Screen Cast is unlistenable. Some of the takes are basically YouTube comments in podcast form.

Edit: Kevin then said that The Good Place is not a good show, especially season 3.

Kevin might be the worst person in a world to host a podcast about television and film.

Anytime they talk about Star Wars a part of me dies. I would rather stick my head in the oven than watch the upcoming in-review.

Both Patreons are at an all-time low, so if that's Greg "caring about Patreon" it's quite alarming.

The whole "Patreon numbers are low" problem has been discussed by the Easy Allies as well when fans have said they were worried. They've basically said that Patreon numbers looking low can be deceiving as there is more going on behind those numbers that we can't see on our end. I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I would imagine that the least amount of people in their company's history being willing to pay for their content would be something to worry about. Even if it is "deceiving" it still speaks volumes about how people really feel about what they're putting out.

The Easy Allies thing is a bit different too because it's not their Patron numbers that are/were low (in fact they were at record numbers this year) but their monthly total dipping by around $1000-$2000. However that figure is dictated mostly by sponsorships which are tiered on Patreon by EZA. If a sponsor drops out then that's $250 gone for the month.

Dropping the actual number of patrons is far more devastating in the long term, even with KF's insane pricing model for their content now. Because how can they ever gain those lost people back or convince new people to jump in at a minimum (realistically for what they offer) of $10 a month/$120 a year. Madness.

To be honest, the only reason Patreon numbers could ever be more important than Youtube subscribers or podcast listens is if they care more about their core audience than growing the more casual fanbase. It's been clear for a while that that's the case; their content is geared towards what the Patreon and subreddit will enjoy, with things like the in-jokes, name-dropping the same members of the community all the time and the fact that you can only write into their shows if you're a Patreon subscriber.

Still, it's interesting to see them actually come out and say that they care more about the core audience than anyone else. A few years ago when they were still new Greg would talk all the time about wanting Kinda Funny to be the next Rooster Teeth or IGN, and for a while it looked like that's what they were building towards. These days they seem happy to just exist in their own space and continue to cost along as they are.

It's been said multiple times in this thread that they're not growing, they know they're not growing, but they don't seem to want to make any changes to their content to turn that around.

That you could only submit questions as a patreon really hurts their daily show. Almost every day the same people their questions are being answered.

Still only because they don't like TLJ? I know tons of people who have legitimate complaints about it.

The movie is really controversial amongst people

One of them referred to the Disney era of Star Wars as a "disaster" I believe, which is wrong on a factual level.

That being said, I have a hard time trusting negative opinions on The Last Jedi given the large amount of questionable arguments against it from so many people, ranging from sexism to being angry that Finn isn't a Jedi.

There are legitimate issues that I'm willing to hear in an argument. But the deepest Kevin has gone is to chime in with saying that he pretends the movie never happened. If you have issues with it, that's fine. To pretend it's on the same level as Attack of the Clones or talk in that amount of hyperbole just isn't honest. That's YouTube comment nonsense.

I feel like "I pretend it doesn't exist" is a lot more tame and less aggressive of a way than it could be in terms of getting across his feelings on the movie in a short soundbite.

They're just not Star Wars fans, bar maybe Tim. Which is fine. I just don't want to hear takes from people who either don't care or want SW to be the MCU.

Funny, TLJ is probably a better movie but I had more fun watching Attack of the clones.

Absolutely loved it when I was I younger, I'm not sure I would have liked TLJ as much. The whole casino side quest felt boring.

Now I'm older I can see the movies has flaws. However I still have fun every time I see it (and I have seen it probably at least 50 times)

TFA I watched in cinema 11 times, 8 of time in Imax. TLJ on the other hand I watched 2 times and never again.

It's perfectly fine not to like that movie

I mean when the MCU has only had 6 or so really outstanding films from a library of what, 22 now, its understandable to not want Star Wars to follow the MCU mold.

The MCU overall is like vanilla ice cream, no one really hates it and it tastes fine but no one can truly say it's the best at anything.

Solo probably would have done a lot better if it came soon after TFA or before TLJ.

It's really not a bad movie

Listening to the latest KF Podcast reminds me of how the work-life is at my job, and while it's not the same industry that same drive and passion is there at the company I work for. Taking that perspective into account now and hearing them talk about their ambitions, I get it. I get completely what they're going for, and I admire them more for it. While I'm not a fan of a lot of the shifts in focus they've made in the past year, it's clear that their measure of success is a lot different internally, and I hope they continue to be successful on their terms.

It comes off to me like you not liking their opinions is heavily influencing that take of yours. Saying Kevin and especially Nick aren't SW fans sounds ridiculous. I know Greg is the one who makes a point that he's whatever about it but out of those 4 that's it.
Well, since TLJ come and they didn't like it, they both acted like they took their ball and went home. I've heard Kevin on multiple occasions say that there 'are more bad ones than good in the series' and he sure sounds like he doesn't like it anymore. And Nick these days seems to compare everything unfavourable to the MCU and his Lord Feige.

Again, no problem at all if they don't like it anymore, that's fine, plenty of people don't. I just don't want to listen to them discuss a topic they have (mostly) soured on.

To me, TLJ is the worst SW film by a significant margin. I honest enjoyed AOTC a lot more (both in 2002 and now), and I do not like that film at all. I prefer to not acknowledge it because it disappointed me on a level I hadn't yet experienced from the franchise.

Is it really that hard to accept Kevin feels the same?

I tweeted this to Gary: I would love to see him take part in a video (maybe We Have Cool Friends) that includes Cory Barlog and Duncan Jones (director of Moon, Source Code, and World of Warcraft), with Greg being moderator/host. That would be a fun thing.

What three films have been huge hits?

Solo didn't do well, TLJ is hated, most like TFA but say its a rehash of the original movies?

You seem to be confused as to what a "hit" is. It means a successful film. The personal opinion of someone on a message board regarding TLJ is not relevant to the discussion.

TFA, TLJ and RO are hit films. This isn't something that can be debated.

TLJ is obviously divisive (not a "hated" film but divisive) amongst movie goers. It was also a huge hit with critics, as it was one of the best reviewed movies of 2017. TFA was as well. And RO was also well reviewed.

But either way, the point here is that comparing it to the MCU in terms of "number of hits" makes literally no sense. It's 4 films to 23. It was a weird comparison.

So, again, what are we quantifying as a "hit"? Financial success, review scores or the feedback of the audience? Because it's changed twice since the topic of SW started.
