Of the feasible games that could be on this, I really want Blazing Lazers and Bonk's Revenge. And Air Zonk. Pretty sure that'll be on there.

It's too bad Ys IV and Rondo of Blood probably aren't coming, since the never did come out in English, although Rondo could still happen, I duppose. Ys IV is a wonderful game, though. It's far less cryptic than Ys 1&2
Blazing Lasers sucks. They'd be better off putting Soldier Blade on it.

Alright so the CoreGrafx Mini has a PEGI 18 rating.

While it is provisional, I can't help but wonder what included game (or games) could possibly bump the rating up that high.

Splatterhouse is PEGI 12.

Just ran a search. None of the TG16/PCE games that appeared on Nintendo's Virtual Console got a PEGI rating above 12. That includes Rondo.

Dead of Brain in English. PCE Snatcher? Can't imagine much else that would get that high of a rating.

Hudson's shovelware was never helping the library shine either.
Hudson software support (be it by being the publisher or by developing the game in-house) for PCE was good.
Some notable Hudson games for PCE:

Military Madness / Neo Nectaris
Neutopia 1 and 2
Bonk 1, 2, 3
Momotarou Katsugeki (though the game was never released in the west)
Bomberman '93/'94
Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu
Dragon's Curse, The Dynastic Hero (Hudson made the port)
New Adventure Island
Soldier Blade, Super Star Soldier, Final Soldier
Star Parodier
Ys Book 1 & 2, Y3 and Ys 4 (sadly Ys 4 was neve released outside Japan)
Tengay Makyou 1, 2 and Fuun Kabuki Den (unreleased in the west)
Buster Bros
Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes
Dungeon Explorer II
Lords of Thunder
World Heroes 2, Fatal Fury Special (unreleased in the west)
Kabuki Ittou Ryoudan (unreleased in the west)
Sapphire (unreleased in the west)

I would rank Sega higher as a publisher that gen (more variety with all the Western-made stuff in addition to many of the best Japan-made games) but yeah, first-party on PCE was amazing.

They're about tied honestly. The amount of games they put out is mind-boggling compared to what little Nintendo did for SNES/GB. Sega was split between multiple platforms and arcade while Hudson was STILL a prominent third party developer too.

Blazing Lasers sucks. They'd be better off putting Soldier Blade on it.

lol What is this nonsense. Is it cause you don't know the mechanic of getting instant respawns through shooting powerups?

What next..
I respect how good R-Type's mechanics are but 1-2 charge shot bosses have always prevented me from taking it seriously.

Haven't heard of those two titles you mentioned.

Nevermind lol. The thing you're supposed to fear in R-Type is the stages not the bosses, but obviously you seemed to 1CC R-type which is impressive.

TG-16 or PC-Engine is one of the most impressive shmup consoles around. I love all the soldier games and blazing lasers and 1943 kai and even it's port of Raiden. I'll take Raiden these days over R-Type tbh. Vertical > sidescroller.

They are shooters. They are horizontal. There are powerups. There are aliens.

They are 100% comparable.

Gradius 2 is better.

Speaking of Gradius, since they're now a retroactive 1st party:

Konami
  • Akumajō Dracula X: Chi no Rondo (Castlevania: Rondo of Blood)
  • Detana!! Twinbee (Bells & Whistles)
  • Gradius (Nemesis)
  • Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou (Vic Viper)
  • Martial Champion
  • Parodius Da! (Parodius: Non-Sense Fantasy)
  • Salamander (LifeForce)
  • Snatcher CD-ROMantic
  • Snatcher CD-ROMantic: Pilot Disk
  • Tokimeki Memorial

Gradius on the pc engine has 4 hidden bonus stages.

aBS5gKp.gif

Also I wonder if Konami would split the hidden caravan shooters from Tokimeki Memorial and add them individually; Twin Bee Returns and Force Gear.

Gradius 2 is better.

if you're going to compare the incredibly broad spectrum of PCE shooters, Gate of Thunder destroys Gradius II. But even those two are even drastically different.

Get M2 on the project and we may get a full game out of Force Gear lmao

Please, Konami...do this.

All I want is a Walkthrough that shows how to unlock Force Gear from Tokimeki Memorial.
I've tried to play through, but I only got a couple weeks into the game before I figured it would take too much effort/time to get...

EDIT

just about 2+hrs worth of play and sticking with the computer club and not leaving it. Once you get to the 3rd year culture festival it will appear there, and all this should be doable without the need to date any of the girls although you still might need to do birthdays, valentines day and Christmas stuff etc..

Well, that's much more straightforward than I expected!
I believe this indirectly makes Force Gear via Tokimeki Memorial the cheapest shmup on the PC Engine, albeit a very short one with a bit of time investment to unlock it.

How many CD games do we expect to see on this system?
Especially considering they could easily release a stand alone CD-mini unit in Japan with a full line up og great games.

Hard to tell.
We don't even know how mani games there will be in the pce mini.

Imo ys 1&2, rondo of blood, gradius II, star parodier, gates of thunder and winds of thunder are 'must'.
Maybe even Dynastic Hero and Monster Laur if there aren't licensing issues.

I definitely agree on the inclusion of those "musts" - including Dynastic Hero. Monster Lair is alright, but solid enough for inclusion.
So far, it seems like it will be very similar to the offerings on the Virtual Console.

But, oh man, would I love to have the inclusion of rare CD games, such as Ys III, Dungeon Explorer II, and Dragon Slayer - although Dragon Slayer probably hasn't aged quite as well as the other games.

I don't really have much say on a wish list, just because I never really put much time into the console, and I really wouldn't know what the cream of the crop vs "just good" games are.

191543-snatcher-turbografx-cd-other.png

My only real "want" is an english port of the PCE-CDROM version of Snatcher.

I loved Snatcher on the Sega CD since I bought it back in the 90's. But that version has a longer third act, and alternate English dialog that doesn't match up with the Japanese dialog. Kojima had nothing to do with the Sega CD port of Snatcher, so I look at that version as an extended assembly cut.

While the PCE CD-ROMantic version is the one that Kojima worked on personally. It has the third act that the PC88 and MSX versions didn't have. This is the definitive version of Hideo Kojima's Snatcher. If Konami wants to make this collection special, include Snatcher with an english translation.

They don't have to re-dub the original Japanese dialog recordings, the system is using some kind of ARM solution emulation, surely they can use that hardware to add some subtitles for the spoken Japanese dialog and translate the text to english. Hire a translator to do a straight Japanese to English translation... though a few minor censorship edits may need to happen. Just like those fan translations of Policenauts. I think this game could be a huge draw, given the popularity of Kojima's name.

Also, Rondo of Blood has to be there. The english translation is done for this one.
