Digital Entertainment outlook for FY3/2020:
Outlook for the Fiscal Year Ending March 31, 2020 Digital Entertainment

With the spread of entertainment offered through networks, the available means of
providing games continue to diversify.

Opportunities to reach an even greater
audience for games are increasing. Against this background, we intend to develop ways of playing games that match the characteristics of each device.

As for mobile games, we implemented closed testing to release LOVEPLUS EVERY, the latest title in the LOVEPLUS series.

The new title, DANKIRA!!! – Boys, be
DANCING!, started pre-registration and the number of applicants is increasing. In addition, we would be co-hosting the "eJ.LEAGUE Winning Eleven 2019 season," whose competition title is the mobile game, WINNING ELEVEN 2019, that we organize in cooperation with the Japan Professional Football League (J.LEAGUE).

As for card games, we will continue to expand Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME around the world. Furthermore, we will host the qualifying rounds in various regions for "Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2019," the eSports world championship which decides who the best players are in the Yu-Gi-Oh! series.

As for computer and video games, we will release an exclusive, download-only title
for the Nintendo Switch, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Legacy of the Duelist: Link
Evolution. As for the baseball titles, we are working on the latest title in the PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL SPIRITS series, PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL SPIRITS 2019, to respond to the high expectations of fans. Furthermore, JIKKYOU PAWAFURU PUROYAKYU, which allows up to four players, is intended to be released for the
Nintendo Switch. As part of our continued active efforts in eSports, we will host the final round for the world championship "PES LEAGUE WORLD TOUR 2019" for Winning Eleven 2019 (known overseas as PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2019).

The Winning Eleven series were selected as a Culture Program at the 74th national
Sports Festival held in 2019, "Iki Iki Ibaraki Yume Kokutai" and the qualifying rounds to decide the representatives in each prefecture has started. In addition, the "eBASEBALL PAWAPURO Pro League" season in 2019 was decided to be held and will be organized along with the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).

Godnami keeps doing it. Guess the new Tokimeki GS has no internal date even for now considering it's not in the list of the next releases.

Also interesting how they're doing more stuff like collections now. I guess Switch opens the door for more AA projects like they said they would do before.

Due to an accounting error, Konami received 100% of the profits from Smash Ultimate.

And they still refuse to resurrect their old IP. There's a REAL market for Darkstalkers 4 and Power Stone 3.

So far, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Capcom, Bandai Namco, Koei Tecmo and Konami had their best fiscal year. Not Sega because of mobile and pachinko. Square Enix results should not be too far

i don't expect any new big game from them, but at least i hope they make most of their back catalog available on current platforms, the 3 collections are a good start.

I wonder what they've done with Grimoire of Souls...

It's been over a year since its beta, and nothing since.

Earth, 21st Century
"How do you sleep at night, knowing you've killed off Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Suikoden?"

"Oh, we haven't killed Castlevania. He's on life support as we speak!" *sips wine menacingly*

"You know damn well what I mean."

"On a bed of money, my friend. More than I've ever had before! MUAHAHAHAHA"

They supply a lot of the games/casinos that are used on my company's cruise ships. As SysAdmin, i have to interact with them often if there are issues etc.

They're doing very well off us but their product is great and their engineers are knowledgable.

They actually have 2 brand new Switch games in that list with Yugioh and Power Pro. One brand new PS4/Vita game in Baseball Spirits. Also they'll for sure have a new PES for PS4 and did announce Hyper Sports R for Switch too. The new Tokimeki Memorial they recently announced may also be on Switch/PS4/Vita, if it's not a mobile thing. So while they moved away from AAA development like they said before, they do still have some presence in dedicated systems.

Yu-Gi-Oh! literally prints money doesn't it? The series is more than 20 years old and I still see kids begging for the booster packs at the grocery store.

Good for them? It's still hard to care about 99% of the stuff they are putting out. Only thing I am seeing right now is the Castlevania Collection.

just give us properly done remaster collections of MGS, Silent Hill, Igavania, Gradius and Contra then we'll see eye to eye Konami

As someone who didn't really play any Konami games growing up and only began to realize the classics they'd created as these series were wrapping up (e.g., I got into Castlevania with Portrait of Ruin, I became interested in the impact of SH2 well into the PS360 years, I never played MGS, etc.), I would happily welcome their classics getting released again. I imagine creating such ports and remasters is a cost-effective game development approach that keeps their IP alive and might appeal to Konami, so I hope we see it.

Kojima's salary must have been crazy lol

I know this is a joke, but taking a look at it seriously for a moment:

Metal Gear Solid 2 was estimated to have cost 10 million back in 2001 and took a bit over two years to make. It ended up selling over 7 million copies. Metal Gear Solid V cost over 80 million in 2015 and took 4 years to make and was still considered "incomplete". It shipped over 6 million copies.

That's why Konami gave up on high end console development. The mobile and pachinko games they make now can be pushed out at a fraction of the cost in a fraction of the time and make just as much, if not more, money. Their reprehensible treatment of their employees and Kojima deserves all the criticism it gets and fuck the executives for doing that, but from a business perspective It just wasn't worth it to them to continue HD game development in its current format.

Konami made more profits than Capcom despite its Capcom best performance year in 2018.
Mobile is the future, guys.

Nah man, those aren't REAL video games!

But but. They are also making those real games like PES or Power Pro lol.

We know perfectly well that pachislot brings in the big bucks. Doesn't mean we have to like it.

Their mobile division is the one making the big bucks though?

Can't wait for them to start making new console games again.

PES, Yugioh?

They should make MGS, Silent Hill and new IPs on top of that.

There is no one left in konami going to make those games. And Konami simply dont do AAA games anymore.

Remember the Kojima fiasco? Crimson above explain it lol. Bigger money investment for MGSV and yet it bring lesser profit vs MGS2. Who in their right mind want to do this stupid business?

Wonder why all other game developers aren't making gacha Games and pachinko machines then. Seems like easy money.

Using MGSV as an example is terrible because that game's development was straight up cursed. A new SH wouldn't need as much budget now that Kojima's gone, if they could get the people to make it.

If that were the case, Capcom would be doing well in this department, but Capcom is likely going to be downsizing and withdrawing from it because they can't make it work and get that revenue stream going.

Not all companies can make this business model work, look at Capcom. It took a concerted effort from Konami to make the shift and now they are committed to it. It was a long time coming: they were basically out of AAA development at the beginning of the generation to begin with and really started throwing in the towel at the end of last generation. The writing was on the wall way back in 2012/2013, nobody wanted to acknowledge it.

It's a shame but it was clearly a good move for them

I just hope they make all their classics available in some way or form over the coming years
