I wonder how many at Konami have Kojima Tears mugs.
Or maybe better yet let outside parties develop traditional games with their IP's since Konami isn't really interested.
I hope nobody think this is because they went pachinko only.....This growth has nothing to do with them stopping doing AAA games. They were increasing their profits BEFORE they got rid of Kojima. They more then doubled their profit between 2015 and 17 but they cant say the same for the last 3 years...And btw they probably included their operational cost decrease in the new profit....

Konami sure isn't hurting without him.
Lol. Konami CEO probably have A sony tears mug for how long death stranding have been going lol.
...3 years? That's barely anything in the scale of development time.
3 of almost nothing but walking around gameplay video...... the game will probably launched as cross release with ps5 at this point of time.
Yes, because the game is still in development.
At the point of the first E3 reveal Kojima only joined 6 months earlier. There's no way anyone could pump out a big Budget game in 2 years
So. Big money sinks project that dont suit Konami at all then. It is still to see if Kojima project there will be a very profitable venture for Sony atm.
Dead because suiko V flop and no one like Suikoden.

You can make the same argument for every single high end video game company today. The difference is that other companies are actually smart about their console and game development business. Konami was completely idiotic. It's totally possible to have a high end gaming division in conjunction with their mobile and gambling businesses.I know this is a joke, but taking a look at it seriously for a moment:
Metal Gear Solid 2 was estimated to have cost 10 million back in 2001 and took a bit over two years to make. It ended up selling over 7 million copies. Metal Gear Solid V cost over 80 million in 2015 and took 4 years to make and was still considered "incomplete". It shipped over 6 million copies.
That's why Konami gave up on high end console development. The mobile and pachinko games they make now can be pushed out at a fraction of the cost in a fraction of the time and make just as much, if not more, money. Their reprehensible treatment of their employees and Kojima deserves all the criticism it gets and fuck the executives for doing that, but from a business perspective It just wasn't worth it to them to continue HD game development in its current format.
Lol. you are underselling what real art is, if u considered MGSV is art lol.

Most dev studios aren't dominated by a creative lead sucking up $80 million to make a single blockbuster game. Most similar companies also don't have footprints in other industries ranging from casino amusement to to health clubs, either. You can make the same argument for every single high end video game company today. Nintendo was originally a playing card company. Now playing cards make up a tiny percentage of their business.Wasn't video games their number #1 reason for existing as a company? If so why the fuck aren't they making shit people want like most developers out there? They like profits so why not profit even more by giving people what they want? I don't get it.

amazon started as a book store. 3M started as a sand paper merchant. ect
businesses evolve into other things. being a traditional games company just wasn't in the cards for Konami
No True Scotsman, amirite?
Anyway, MGS was clearly a labor of love by Kojima and an expression of his own ideas from game design to nuclear war. What gives you the authority to decide what isn't art?

Companies evolving is common, yes but I guess it's hard to take in especially from KONAMI. They should just sell off their IPs and let other people create with them.

Selling IPs is stupid... but how about licensing those IP to other, willing companies?
Like SEGA did with Bayonetta?
That way they can sit back and just take their cut, while someone else bears the costs of their own volition.
They have before. They licensed Momotaro Dentetsu to Nintendo for the 3DS before. I dunno if they'll do this for some of their bigger IPs, but I wouldn't be opposed to them handling some of their IP this way.Selling IPs is stupid... but how about licensing those IP to other, willing companies?

What do the categories represent, exactly?
I assume "games and systems" is their "core" games, and "digital entertainment" is their mobile stuff? "Amusement" is... pachinko? And "sports"... their fitness clubs?
As far as I can tell from the PDFs:
Digital Entertainment = video games, including Pro Evo and mobile stuff like Yu Gi Oh Duel Links
Amusement - arcade games like Dance Dance Revolution
Gaming & Systems = casino stuff
Sports = fitness programs, such as table tennis school, as well as sports products
Wut? Actually them stopping making AAA games is what allow Konami to focus more on business like mobage and smaller games. Kojima AAA endeavor not only hemorrhage huge money but also huge talent energy wasted.
What do you mean WUT ? Look at the numbers, forget the business statement (made for the shareholders..), look at the numbers! The growth was higher before the change ! Doing AAA games has nothing to do with focusing on Pachinko... it is completely separate and not related. With the way they treat their employees and everything else, they MUST rot in hell !
