[Kotaku] Former Gearbox Lawyer Accuses CEO Randy Pitchford Of Taking Secret $12 Million Bonus In Lawsuit Gearbox Calls 'Absurd'

I know it's been said several times in this thread by now but.

Holy shit, when I think Randy Pitchford can't be any more scummy and weird, this happens. Like, I wasn't even surprised about him stealing that money but didn't expect the USB story before opening this thread.

Well, there goes the Claptrap for Smash petitions. Oh god, Tiny Tina. And with that the scrubbing of Borderlands from the collective psyche begins in earnest.
I downloaded The Pre-Sequel like two days ago. I'm deleting that shit now, lol.

I’m not sure I understand why him wanting to learn how she faked squirting on camera is some contention point... or how that makes him a weirdo*

*provided it’s true

I do feel like the whole $12 million thing is a slightly bigger deal given the shift on the other part.

I never did go to a medieval times. I've always loved the very wiiiide range of opinions on the place.

His story about the usb is just so distinct I can’t not to believe him. Like he could have said literally anything was on it but he went into a detailed thing about cam girls and squirting magic tricks. What a guy.

Hopefully this all gets cleared up with the lawsuit.

I think people are more weirded out that he apparently told people about it, because people can be curious about all sorts of weird stuff, but usually you kept that to yourself.

Here's the podcast. Even in their description, they seem a bit taken aback.

Episode 75 - Randy Returns
December 22nd, 2018
Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Software, part time magician and great great great great probably great nephew of Cardini returns to the podcast to discuss his start in video games, quality control, gimmicked coins and the side quests to obtain them. Be warned, this podcast is not for the faint hearted as Randy gushes about his love of magic. Or something like that.

By that language, even if there actually is a flash drive and the flash drive actually did contain pornography, the claim doesn’t actually state that the alleged flash drive held child pornography, but rather “‘underage’ pornography”.
It's still gross, but I'm inclined to believe this (that it's "barely 18" and not CP) over multiple people knowing something incredibly illegal and not reporting it.

Or maybe it's preemptive spin.
Yeah, I was about to post that the lawsuit language placed “underage” in quotes, rather that directly claiming that there was child porn, which left open the possibility of it being “Barely legal” porn that some dudes are fond of for whatever reason. Scummy maybe, but still not a criminal matter.

Possibly, but there is still the follow up with peacocking parties. That's a hell of an accusation itself and incriminates Randy's wife too.

I've read the article a few times and I'm still confused about the timeline. When did Randy do the podcast damage controlling the porno on his USB stick in relation to this lawsuit?

EDIT: Oh okay, it's the day after the lawsuit was filed, but does Randy know about the lawsuit as soon as its filed?

He admitted to watching porn so he should burn in hell? Is this one of those American Christian things?
When the accusation is made that you left a USB drive with underage pornography at a Medieval Times and you’re on record saying that you left a USB drive with pornography at a Medieval Times, that’s pretty damn incriminating.

I'm not going to wade into the quagmire of if it's okay to jack off to barely legal people, but confirming that he keeps his porn on a company USB stick that he loses at restaurants certainly makes the lawyer's claim that there was UA shit on there more believable. Obviously this is purely circumstantial.

And here's why they are filing against the lawyer using scarequotes. Because people who lack reading comprehension and jump to conclusions now have made up their minds.

He recorded the podcast after the lawsuit, and never admitted to anything involving somebody who was (or claimed to be) underage. And the filing itself uses underage in quotes, implying that it wasn't actually an underage person in the video.

There’s a broad genre of porn where the performers claim to be “barely legal” as in 18 years old and thus not legally children. Given the language of the lawsuit, where “underaged” was in quotes, and the wording of the Pitchford podcast interview, that was the porn that apparently actually existed on an apparently real flash drive. That is not, however, “child pornography” legally speaking.

I don't think he would have said anything if there wasn't an accusation of CP first
We have no idea when the podcast was actually recorded, just that it was released on the 22nd.

Podcast hosta should say when this was recorded so that we have a clearer timeline since many pods are recorded days, sometimes weeks in advance to accomodate their host

Would Randy know about the lawsuit before everyone else?

The timing of him doing a podcast and talking about the story a few weeks before the story breaks is a little suspicious to me.

Im not seeing the problem with liking legal cam girls
I don't necessarily want to defend Randy Pitchford of all people, but, yeah, even the "but she was barely 18!" folks have to realize that's the age almost all cam girls enter to get more attention -> views -> money. it does not mean they're even close to 18. pedophile? I doubt it. ironically, that's the kind of rhetoric that'll normalize paedophilia in the end.

Nah the degenerate part is downloading a video of a camgirl to analize and discover her "magic trick".
I think maybe you're putting too much into that. I dont think theres exactly too much studying going on in that sense, maybe he just wanted to get a few pointers :P I'm sure there are better ways though, theres probably guides specific to the subject :P

Again I don't think he would talk about the usb porn if he didn't know (or suspected) about the lawsuit...that would be crazy lol
