Taken from Kotaku. Full statement on the Kickstarter page.

The upcoming remake of System Shock, Kickstarted two years ago for over $1.3 million, is now on "hiatus" thanks to problems with development, the company behind it said today.

[…]

"As our concept grew and as our team changed, so did the scope of what we were doing and with that the budget for the game," Kick said. "As the budget grew, we began a long series of conversations with potential publishing partners. The more that we worked on the game, the more that we wanted to do, and the further we got from the original concepts that made System Shock so great."

Aw dammit!

At least we have Prey. And System Shock 2. And Dishonored. And Deus Ex. But still, I've been looking forward to a new System Shock.

It's almost like crowdfunding isn't a great way to work on games. Like the scope of a piece of art and technology can't be easily encapsulated near the inception of the project. Hm.

God, I don't understand why this happens so frequently with Kickstarters. Is like most of the people involved don't have good plannification at all.
