Kyoto Animation (A Silent Voice, Haruhi, Free, Clannad) on fire in premeditated arson attack. Update: Death toll reaches 36 (see staff post)

Japanese news agency NHK reported early morning JST that a stranger attacked animation studio Kyoto Animation, known as Kyoani, with gasoline and set the building on fire.

Firefighters are currently engaged with the fire and are working to get everyone securely.
It is reported that at least 30 people have been injured, with at least 10 heavily. Heavy damage has been sustained to the studio.

Kyoto Animation is known for work such as Violet Evergarden, Nichijou, K-On, The Melanchony of Haruhi Suzuyama and Clannad.

Their most famous work is probably Haruhi Suzumiya. Its star was incredibly bright until a certain arc in Season 2 occurred.

Nothing really. There's a Free! movie coming up and they just released the Euphonium movie. Both are well received franchises and they haven't put out a show in a while.
