I don't think they have the budget for a smash style marketing campaign dedicated to a character reveal.
Don't give them credit for something that they didn't canonize.
Warner Bros. has squashed two separate attempts to portray Velma as gay and bi, respectively. They forced the writers of SDI to keep her heterosexual and alter a planned final romance with a woman to being a plutonic friend. And that was after introducing the long running story arc of her romantic relationship with Shaggy. It's really shitty that companies still do this crap.

If there is one thing that Seperates Smash from the rest of the platform fighter genre is its spectacle

I think this leak just lists out datamined info and doesn't really confirm if the characters are in or not
But that's the thing, he was never datamined. He was only from the initial leak that wrongly stated that NRS was making this game.
Does Warner Bros own the rights to Harry Potter or is it JK Rowling who owns the rights? Or do they both own it?
From what I've read. There wasn't anything Harry Potter related in the datamines.

I dunno, I only see Fortnite updates from here. I think Fortnite is different in that it's already huge and it's characters are only skins.
I think this game could use more excitement in its announcements if this is how they plan on doing them. I haven't thought about this game since it was announced. I doubt I'm the only one. It's kinda an underwhelming return.
Maybe they could've taken a page out if the Sonic Twitter's book and hidden some coded messages in images they tweeted hinting at the next reveal, and ended it with a trailer. Would've fit Velma, too.
Still, Velma's a neat character to put in and from that leaked image, she looks good.

It was a public playtest that anyone could sign up for. They should have expected people leaking/datamining.
They should look a really hard look at how Smash does a lot of things.

I kinda agree. Daffy's absence from the initial reveal really baffled me. I'm sure they'll add him down the line though.
They're one in the same; lesbian Velma comes from Mystery Incorporated too, after she breaks up with Shaggy.

JK Rowling fully owns the Harry Potter IP as far as we know. WB is just the licensee for various media, though it's been such a long time now since they had exclusive rights to the series I imagine they have some kind of semi-permanent deal with Rowling
I think James Gunn had said he wanted to write her that way in the 2000s live action movie, but MI was the first time it was actually (somewhat, as much as American children's television could probably "get away with" in the early 2010s) depicted on screen.
