Days-gone-cover-art.png

So Days Gone has been getting massive success, both from the player base and sales which means a sequel is definetly coming. Bend is one of my favourite developers ever and I really like when an underdog developer succeeds.

I am not really sure what the sequel would be like or what new things they can add because the template they got in place is really well done. So I am going to talk about the things I would like to see fixed or improved:

-Loading screens should go away. I would like the next game to be GTA like in this department. Once you load the game it would stop having black screens between cutscene to gameplay and will be more seamless. This issue made the game feel less immersive to me.
-Gameplay. While the gameplay in the game is fine as it is and is fun, I feel there is a lot more they could do with it. Gun feedback would be the biggest thing to improve, make the guns feel much more "crunchy" and the sound of the guns should be louder and more crisp. I would love it if they out MGS5 as an inspiration and tried to do something similiar mechanically.
-Better planning. The game feels a bit weird sometimes in the structure department. It feels like some cutscenes doesn't fit because they changed something last minute. I get why it happened (for people who don't know, the game started with 50 developers making it and the scale and the development team got bigger and bigger each year). Next game should have 160 or so developers making it so I am sure this won't be a problem.
-Frame rate and overall performance. This is something I am sure we will see improved significantly (probably before Days Gone 2 if PS5 comes out next year).
-Better animations. I think this is definetly coming now that they will surely get their mo cap studio.
-More over all polish. Just polish the game to hell and back. The first game is steadily getting better and better each patch so I hope they learn from this and apply it to the sequel.

With performance and all that out of the way, things I would like to see added:
-Outfits and more customizable main character. I want to change clothes just like in GTA or RDR. Add a real time beard/hair.
-I would like it if camps were much more bigger. I would love to see something like Red Dead Redemption 2 with characters in the camp interacting together. This might be a money sink however so It is not a must have for me but it would be nice to add even more lore to the game (which has been really excellent so far).
-Freakers. I am not sure how they can improve them to be honest so I will say this, add even more quirks to them. Make them fight each other in the horde (kind of like how humans in a community might get into a fight) and have some of them be abnormal (a weirdo like how humans might have weird people doing weird or abnormal things). Some of that is already in the game but I would like it to be expanded more. These freaks are intelligent so I would like to see more of that.
-AI should be smarter on the human side.
-Mini games. This isn't necessary but I would love if they pulled a RDR and added poker or liar's dice to play while in a camp. It could make for some really cool immersion and downtime. Again I am not expecting much here but it would be cool.
-More unique encounters and side quests. I would love to encounter some weird side quests by being at the right time at the right place. Kind of like Strangers in the original Red Dead Redemption or 2 where you find some interesting characters just by stumbling upon them.
-More survival elements. Something like RD Redemption 1 (not 2) could be cool. Basically they should let you hunt animals to eat while out in the wild.

As for the story and setting, I am not sure what they can do here. I really like Oregon due to how diverse it is. You got deserts, volcano ruins, woodlands and the weather having snow makes things really cool. I want something as diverse as Oregon for the next game. Storywise I haven't beaten the game yet because I have been really busy with a lot of things but I hear it goes places. You can discus this but please spoiler tag it. But I have been enjoying Deacon's story so far. Maybe have a female protagonist in the next game? We need more female protagonist!

Something I thought of as a joke in another thread but I will put it here anyway, how would you guys feel about Japanese bikers? Takes place in the japanese county side and has all these crazy bikes that looks ridicilous. I would love to see this the more I think about it but I am not sure if Bend would be interested. Maybe in Days Gone 3 or later down the line when they want something unique.

What do you guys think?

- No survival mechanics
- No crafting
- No stealth

Make it a open world Gears of War or not even an open world. Just make it like COD with random on rail driving segments.

I really hope for a sequel as well, as I'm completely blown away by how good Days Gone is, warts and all.

The most obvious things for a sequel would be better pacing from the start as well as more polish in the technical department. I'd also like to see a continuation of Deacon's story in a sequel. More mission types would be welcome. Less clearing camps and more missions with exploration of interesting locations. They could also expand the variety of freakers with more deadly mutations.

They have a very strong foundation, they basically need to polish and expand on it by adding more interesting activities and variety in enemies and encounters. I'm definitely down for another adventure with Deacon. Bring the hordes!

More indoor combat, solid performance, the ability to look behind you, a large town with the same level of detail as the current smaller ones, more versatility in the bike combat and upgrading, bionic arm for boozer
Planet of the Apes style freaker society up north expanding on the secret ending

Also the ability to toss throwables over your shoulder while running

Start with all the technical issues. There's a good game there somewhere but the framerate drops are hard to overlook. On a PS4 it's been rough.

Tighter, better paced story with less padding. They could have easily cut 5 - 10 hours to make it feel tighter.

Better mission structure. No more riding out of a camp just to get a call to come straight back for another mission.

Have the missions and story progression feel more natural with more variety. Mix it up a bit, don't just have a check list of things to do in the world, make it so each mission is doing one of those things in a different order, so it doesn't feel like you are doing the same thing over and over (not just Days Gone but all open world games should do this)

More hordes, even bigger hordes and maybe hordes with new enemy types.

Better loading, more seamless between gameplay and cutscenes, more overall polish really.

I love most things about Days Gone, if they just tidy up a few things, the sequel will be fantastic, not just good, like this game is.

No open world
No crafting
Quicker loading times
No cheating AI
No micromanagement of fuel or anything similar

I liked the atmosphere above all, the game itself really couldn't grab me.

1. Double down on survival mechanics. Don't meet half-way and come across as not-consequential.

E.g. make all fuel tanks has limited amount, even those at gas-stations - you need to manually refill tanks and bikes and manage which location still has enough fuel for long journey. Allow you to carry/strap fuel tanks to your bike - but increase risk of marauder attack/etc etc to steal your bike.

2. Tighter, faster gunplay with ability to blind/hip-fire/look behind/throw behind the shoulder/etc. If you think those stuff are too overpowered against hordes, then balance and improve the ferocity/speed of hordes so that combat doesn't feel like you have to stop and shoot every time.

3. Better story pacing in general. A lot of filler missions that advances the story too slowly. Camp 1/2 doesn't advance story much, etc etc. A lot of wasted space.

4. More saw-mill style locations for horde/boss battles, where you have to navigate a maze to slowly chip away at the enemies to win.

5. Different varieties of horde types. An entire horde of rager bears, A horde that has the fast speed ones mixed in so that you can be outrun/etc etc, forcing different ways to engage.

6. NPCs out in the open world in a way that's more meaningful. Embed a better sense of a world beyond the camps.

City environment would be nice. Can't think of anything else right now. This game just refuses to end, so I didn't even considered possibility of a sequel yet.

A co-op mode, just having the ability to have a friend hop in your world and ride their own bike. Could see taking on hordes with someone to be even more exciting.

Like someone said, don't wanna leave a camp then have the same camp call you and give you a mission.

Wanna be able to talk to people at the camp. Just completed the story and there are some people who were vital in the story that I can't even talk to.

A shorter game. Less camps. Actual story hooks. Better pacing.

Oh and main mission design that doesn't feel archaic and actually uses the core sandbox elements.

I can't believe some are asking for no open world.... like what seriously lol !?

I want the choice of customizing Deacon's looks like RDR2 style... that would make me happy.

melee and shooting at least on the same level of tlou (just to name a game with very similar combat)
better human AI
better and more consistent gore
a far more harder game (the first one is kinda of a cakewalk even on hard)
better main human villains
less cheesy writing in some occasions
better performance
mixed race horde with various type of freakers and not just the ordinary one
no downgraded shooting with horde on screen
better physics and enviromental interactions
more enemy variety
more animals
even more expanded ecosystem
better cutscene-ingame transition
less "i drive for 10 minutes for 30 seconds of talk" type of mission
more diversified puzzle for nero lab
maybe more varied main mission and some spectacular setpieces
give me more o'brian, i kinda love him
some other minor things

i immensely love the game, but like horizon (another favourite of mine) there is a loooooooooooot of room for improvement.

Country location again but this time doing runs into the city. Would love some scenes similar to the I Am Legend movie.

More survival
- I almost never worried about fuel.
- Animal skins and meat should be needed for your own survival and crafting
- Would love stuff like fishing and hunting be more integrated and useful

More time on your own
- Longer sections of the game with no social interaction for Deacon

More enemy variety
- More freaker types
- But not over the type human enemies with massive body armour and chain guns and rocket launchers (those character ruin the Uncharted games for what it's worth)

Customisation
- Let us choose our own clothing
- More bike types

O'brien and his buddies
- Please keep them out of most of the game (in terms of encounters and fights), I don't want to turn the game into a Deacon vs superfreaks

Water transport
- Would love the world opened up a bit more with jet skis or simple paddle boats

- A horde in a tower block. Thousands of the bastards breaking down the room doors and chasing you down the stairs. Put it in the story that you have to reach the top to signal a chopper but it all goes wrong. Easy.

- Slightly less strange fanmen mad about the game existing even though they weren't buying it anyway in the threads building up to release. They only make themselves look silly.

- A radio station that only plays 80's power ballads.

- An actual use for the smoke grenades. I used them once in the whole game and that was only by accident because I thought I had more attractors.

I've posted it already in the Days Gone OT. So here we go again:
Finally got my platinum trophy after taking my time with the game, driving the broken road, while doing side-stuff all the time.
I think I've played ~90 hours (as I said: I took my time, driving around, exploring, etc.). What a ride. Great game.
My score: 8/10

To get a 9/10 or 10/10 for the sequel:
- Better performance
You can clearly see how small this team was. Too small for such a big game. ~45 devs when this project started. Now with 135+ devs, I'm sure it won't happen again. The Unreal Engine 4 is a nice engine, but I still hope they will use Guerrilla's Decima Engine for the sequel on PS5. Would be nice :D
- Get rid of thse forced slow walking sequences
Jesus Christ... they were killing me. Especially when you get to the military base for the first time. You wanna drive around on the broken road as quick as possible, because it feels so good. You wanna feel free.
But then, every few hours, they cripple you with those forced slow walking sequences to continue the story. They have to find a different way to tell the story, without forcing you to slowly walk around NPCs. Take a look at TLOU, GOW or Uncharted. Even tho NPCs are talking to you, you still can run/jump around while they are talking.
- More stunts with the bike
Driving around with the bike is awesome. But let us do some stuff with it while driving. Like... in Spider-Man PS4 while jumping around through the city. You've been able to fool around in mid-air with jumps, somersaults, etc.
There were a few ramps in Days Gone. But that's not enough. Give us a litte bit more :)
- Fuel lasting longer
To refuel the bike almost every ~5 minutes is annoying as hell. Too annyoing. Make it every 15 - 20 minutes. So you can enjoy riding the broken road with your bike, without being too scared all the time about your fuel, because you are looking at your fuel-gauge all the time. Make it last ~20 minutes. That's better, because it would suprise you more often. You wouldn't expect it all the time. You wouldn't look at your fuel-gauge all the time.
- Boss fights
Do some more boss fights. Mutated/infected creatures specifically/only for boss fights.
My GOTY 2019 so far.
I want bigger hordes in Days Gone 2! Keep the survival mechanis, the great brutal world in DG with all it's animals (even more wild animals), keep the stealth mechanics, upgrade the AI of the human enemies and let the fuel last longer.

Also I actually think this game was never made with the intention of a sequel. They made it so long and answered almost every question.

Collecting stuff like ammo should be done automatically.
Don't show stuff we can't collect or open like doors or full inventory.
Being able to store atleast one gas can on the bike
More options to finetune or customize bike.
RAYTRACING on PS5

City environment would be nice. Can't think of anything else right now. This game just refuses to end, so I didn't even considered possibility of a sequel yet.

Thats what I thought to more city environment was missing.

NO A BIG FAT NO to that.

better human AI
better main human villains (I loved them all except Skizzo was unrealistic to me)
better performance of the game engine no framedrops less loading times
better physics and enviromental interactions
even more expanded ecosystem
better cutscene-ingame transition
more diversified puzzle for nero lab
maybe more varied main mission and some spectacular setpieces
give me more o'brian, If there will be a sequel there will be more of him anyway

I'll honestly take a better paced story with little to no padding over anything else.

Story can be long, but it has to keep me into it.

I want to be able to talk with npc in camp even if they end up repeating some line after a couple of times.

I agree.

1. Smoother transitions between gameplay and cinematics
2. 1k hordes
3. More interactions with NPCs
4. More people roaming around the world trying to surivive instead of fixed camps and locations.

Otherwise im pretty happy with everything else.

This.
Leave the big picture stuff as it is, but apply more polish & iron out the bugs.
Once that is done, maybe Bend can look into bigger hordes, more freaker typers (already teased in the secret ending), mission variety etc.
Days Gone is a fine game in it's present state and sold pretty well. There's really no need to hit the reset button and start over.

The people who bought and liked DG clearly outnumbered the naysayers and big gaming outlets.
Truly hope Bend doubles down on what they started and doesn't listen to critics.

Bonus:
Would be nice if Portland or any other urban environment would be accessible in DG2

1. I expect the next gen console will resolve issues with loading time and allow for a far larger, more complex and interactive world so that should be taken care of. Needless to say I expect Bend will be working hard to minimize bugs for the sequel.

2. One thing that amazed me about DG was how persistent the world was in terms of remembering things I had done. I could revisit an area I hadn't been to since much earlier in the game and enemy bodies would still be there, I'd like to see them build upon that. Make my actions in the world feel even more important and real where absolutely everything I do is remembered when I revisit areas.

3. Don't bog the game down with too many survival aspects like RDR2! Rockstar's desire to create a simulator ruined the whole video game aspect of RDR2 for me. Bend did a far better job in that aspect with DG and I'd like to see them just flesh things out a bit more without going too overboard. So don't make me stop to eat, or bathe or any of that crap.

4. Make exploring the open world more rewarding. Unique items that can only be found in certain areas, more special weapon and item crafting maybe by finding equipment out in the field to bring back to camp to a "gunsmith" like NPC for example. Just more overall things to see and do in the open world really. The IPCA tech was a great example, build upon that.

5. I wanna be a freaker!!! šŸ˜ƒ
Even if for just one mission, give Deacon the ability to impersonate freaker to move among them for certain unique objectives. Slap some makeup on, apply some pheremones and let me go into the belly of the beast and walk among them.

Going back to bed and will probably think of more later, but that's off the top of my head.

Give us a big city this time. Like in Division 2. No need for a big ass map.

Double down on the horde-system

Feedback (weapons and enemies) is important

More physics and random systems working together and against each other to make the experience more unique for every player
