Let's talk about how Wii's smaller titles seem to be back with a vengeance on Switch

This is something I've caught on to over the last week. It seems that some games on Wii aqre literally out of nowhere are coming back on Switch.

Examples.

Go Vacation
Bass Pro Shops: The Strike
Crash Dummy (aka CID the Dummy)
de Blob
Carnival Games
My Riding Staples: Life with Horses

These examples include remasters and revivals of games essentially born on Wii (like Carnival Games).

I kind of am loving this. Wii was the console that had a legit "diamond in the rough" to its line-up that gave birth to some truly unique and some excellent budget games despite being lost in a sea of legit shovelware. Who knows if Switch will revive this but still, this is a neat start and I hope some truly special stuff will see a second wind on Switch.

What Wii games do you want to see remastered or revived that fit into this or just in general?

I’d love to see some of the rail shooters make their way over, even if they were as budget re-releases without much extra work put into them. In particular, Dead Space: Extraction and the Resident Evil Chronicles games. It helps that they got PS3 remasters that already look okay.

de Blob is the outstanding game in your list (that got ported to all platforms over the years since its Wii release).

The other ones are very ... unambitious so that porting is cheap and easy. Publisher somehow hope that the Wii "casual" audience is on Switch, against all signs.

I'm still over the moon that Go Vacation is getting ported over. The Wii had so many great exclusives that kinda just got buried at retail.

My dream trio for now:

These are games that people actually want? Looks like a pile of shovelware to me.

I liked De Blob at the time but I never considered it one of the best Wii titles.

Now if they could bring back Zack and Wiki, Klonoa, No More Heroes 1&2, Madworld, Little King Story, Rune Factory Frontier and all the other great niche titles from the console then that would be great.

Seriously, this one of the reasons why I consider the Wii a far better system than the Gamecube, it had a much bigger and more diverse line-up.

I like the fact that the Switch is seemingly bringing back Wii/DS style mid-tier games into more mainstream territory, I think it's healthy for the industry to have a sort of middle ground between indie and AAA. Aside from the old Wii series like No More Heroes and deBlob, there's new stuff like Octopath, Ninjala, and Daemon X Machina that invoke that similar level of nostalgia.

Fragile Dreams, nice choice, Infernal Monkey .

I'm actually interested in seeing games like Earth Seeker or Zangeki no Reginleiv, or perhaps Disaster Day of Crisis, find their way to the Switch. They didn't see a complete worldwide release, and it would be interesting to see how a second go would turn out.

Some may be more shovelware than others (I never did pay CID much mind, and Carnival Games is often considered such, so there may be merit to the idea), but some of these -Little King Story and Fragile Dreams especially- are very much worth looking into. The Wii had some pretty good stuff hidden away.

I very much agree; this is something exciting that, ideally, we should see more of everywhere.

I do want some Wii games on Switch though these probably aren't the ones I'd want.
Skyward Sword and Mario Galaxy are pretty obvious picks, I imagine Wii games would look pretty nice at native res on the portable screen especially the ones that were made with nice aesthetics in mind.
Zack and Wiki, Boom Blox, Xenoblade, NMH, etc

If you want quality budget titles you have to look around the eshop. They exist under radically different names and with new ideas.

Boom Blox, SEGA Bass Fishing, Ghost Squad, House of the Dead Collection, Jambo Safari, Fishing Resort, Endless Ocean, The Munchables, Fragile, Little King’s Story, No More Heroes 1/2, Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, Red Steel 2, House of the Dead Overkill, Castle of Shikigami 3, Mad World and Samba De Amigo (now with HD rumble) would be my picks.

So... De Blob and some worthless shovelware?

Oh god are we getting nostalgia for the Wii's garbage shovelware lineup that buried actually good and interesting games?

I would like to see Muramasa and Phantom Brave come over. They worked pretty well on Wii.

Fluidity on WiiWare was one of the best Metroidvanias i ever played: fantastic artstyle, great sense of exploration. Much better than 3DS game than ditched open-world-ish structure of the Wii game.

Speaking of Metroidvanias on Wii: La-Mulana port on Switch would be nice too.

I think folks are getting mixed up. I didn't mean every game in the OP was a gem. :P I just rounded up the Wii to Switch ports and whatnot I remembered existing. :P

Elebits could have been a masterpiece if it wasn’t hamstrung by weak hardware.

On the Wii U front: if Wonderful 101 gets ported, I’m taking the plunge.

Fragile Dreams was a game I wrote about in middle school but never actually got to play. I really want to jump in now.

I'm putting my piece in for an Elebits 3 in the original games style or an Elebits HD on Switch. A wonderfully inventive title that surprised me at the Wii's launch.

GREAT list !

I would add

They could also make both versions since they can simulate pointer for docked and touch for portable!

Basically a Pocky & Rocky spiritual sequel

And I don't care if it is cheating

Endless Ocean would not be bad either

Go Vacation is LEGIT
"had lightsaber battles with motion plus and 4 player open world exploration" legit
Casual to the bone, but legit good casual game

Well let's hope future Wii ports will be of genuine lesser known gems, de Blob aside, like Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Zak and Wiki, Sin and Punishment, and the No More Heroes games. These games deserve to be exposed to an audience that's so much more active than the one the Wii had

I would really like Excitebots to make the jump to a modern Nintendo platform. Maybe people would buy it this time.

I feel like a complete package of Muramasa with the new campaigns created as DLC for the Vita version *has* to be coming sooner or later. Might as well bring over Odin Sphere and Dragon Crown while you're at it...

Sin and Punishment 2 but only if they can nail the pointer controls with the gyro. Or like just a basic port of any kind.

No More Heroes 1/2

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (yeah never gonna happen)

The Last Story.

I wonder why though. Is it very easy to port, or do publishers think the market is the same?
