A pack of lions mauled and ate a suspected poacher near the Kruger National Park in South Africa on Monday, the AFP reported.

Police said remains were found at a private game park where animals had been poached in recent years, according to AFP. The incident happened near Hoedspruit in the Limpopo province. A loaded hunting rifle was found near the scene. Police have not identified the victim.

"It seems the victim was poaching in the game park when he was attacked and killed by lions," Limpopo police spokesman Moatshe Ngoepe told AFP. "They ate his body, nearly all of it, and just left his head and some remains."

Lion poaching has been a problem where the wild lion population dropped from 30,000 to 20,000 in 2017, according to The South African.

Even if he wasn't poaching, I'm of the firm belief that we are still animals part of the food chain. If you're an adult and walk into a land teeming with lions with no means or knowledge to protect yourself and you end up a meal, it's really not a tragedy.

The lions won the game.

Go out trying to kill lions and who would have guessed you could end up eaten by lions.

Serves the dickhead right.

EDIT: Beaten to it :P

Serves the damn poacher right though, sadly even if there were more incidents like this it wouldnt change anything. Not sure how they can really reduce poaching.

I've been to the Kruger park multiple times and poachers are a real problem, especially on the park border to Mozambique. The few rhinos left are at high risk, those are the only animals they dont mark the sighting locations on the boards

Sometimes you get the lion and sometimes the lion gets you.
