Live Action/Animated Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Starts Shooting Today

Why? The original Sonic the Hedgehog games had an extremely pro-environmentalism subtext to it. As silly as this story sounds, from the way it's billed this isn't exactly new ground for Sonic.

Sega are producing and doing the animated scenes and visual effects it seems.

I will maintain that the first Mortal Kombat movie is the first good video game movie. I know it's a much less popular opinion, but I think the Warcraft movie is pretty decent too.
I liked Warcraft too. Not perfect, butnit is what it is. (Would be nice to get some sequels...)

I actually love it. For the record, I'm not expecting this movie to be good, but I want it to be very strange and surreal at this point with all we know about it.
We also have some pictures of James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, Sonic's cop buddy.

The fact that will still don't know who will voice Sonic also cast doubt on this movie's quality for me.
I don't know, if there's one thing this movie has going for it, it's that the casting so far is fairly interesting. Jim Carrey as Dr. Eggman and James Marsden as Sonic's cop buddy are both strange but interesting casting choices at least, so I don't really find myself too concerned with who they'll get voicing Sonic. There's other things to be concerned about with this movie, but I don't think the casting is really one of them.
I think it's simply many people want to know who voices Sonic as he's the titular character and video game icon, so they're holding off announcing it for a PR thing later. Sonic also is CG, so his voiced lines will probably be done later after all the scenes are shot (as they began shooting earlier this month). It's not like the voice actor will be on set with the actors, Sonic's lines and himself really will be put into the film after all the scenes have been filmed.

He doesn't start out that way, Sonic is arrested at the start of Sonic Adventure 2 as he's misidentified as Shadow and pursued by the government agency GUN for most of the game until he clears his name by saving the world from destruction by the ARK space station Eggmans grandfather rigged to slam into the Earth.I hate that they're not following canon! The government is against Sonic? Don't they filmmakers know Sonic is a close, personal friend of the president!
The President even keeps a picture of Sonic what in the middle of his desk.

I suddenly imagined Ryan Drummond returning to the role. That would just make everything even more surreal than it already is.
Small thing about the Green Hill sign, if real (which I do believe it probably is) the population being 1981 is weird. That's the year Donkey Kong came out, thus the year Mario was invented. If they just changed the 8 to a 9, it'd be 1991, which is the year Sonic the Hedgehog 1 came out.

They're filming scenes in a park where I walk my dog sometimes. Randomly came accross some laminated paper stapled to trees saying the park will be off limits for certain dates/times. Should have taken a picture.

It's obviously going to be a thing they will call back to at the end of the movie to show how the town has accepted Sonic and friends as part of the population, final shot of the movie is someone changing the sign from 1981 to 1991 and then a blue streak will speed by, cut to credits. Boom, Sega does what Nintendon't.
Why I'm thinking so much about this...
