Hello everyone~

I'm currently in London for a few more days and would like to get some recommendations to fill out the remaining time I'm here. I'm up for just about anything, so don't hold back on what to recommend! 😄

And yes I've already been to most of the most notable tourist spots like Tower of London, Hyde Park, V&A/British museums, and etc.
(The Stanley Kubrick exhibition at the Design Museum is great btw for any Kubrick or film fans.)

MCM Comic Con is on this weekend at the Excel. Usually pretty good. I'm limiting myself to once a year now so I'm going in October but May last year was fun (if a bit hot!).

https://www.mcmcomiccon.com/london/

Putting that on the list :D

Kew Gardens is nice if you haven't been there.

Gah, I knew I was missing a garden or two to visit.
Definitely gonna visit there

Have you been to a Pret?

The sandwich store? 🤔

If you are here in saturday i would suggest going to london fields and check broadway market. Its a small street market with plenty of food and nice shops around. On sunday again in east london you can check columbia flower market, its usually very packed but its lovely. If you have time you can walk on regent canal from angel to east london.
If you fancy craft beer go to beer mile on Bermondsey and do the beer mile walk. A mile long archway with breweries.

If you feel like chilling go to hackney wick, near yhe canal there are nice spots like Grow.

Well i live in east so most of my recommendations are from east london. :p

Covent Garden. It's a nice square with little shopping boutiques, bars and cafes. But the real draw are the street performers. They draw large crowds of people, and provide a lot of entertainment.

Just be prepared to take your lumps if you're called upon to help with any artists. My ex girlfriend nearly died laughing when a performer got me to help with his juggling act.

At this time of year, the South Bank from Westminster Bridge right down to City Hall and Tower Bridge is a great place to explore. Hire a bicycle if you like. A river tour is fun. Do they still have those Duck Bus tours? This is a converted amphibious assault vehicle from World War II and if you've never been aboard a vehicle that's equally at home on land and in the river that alone is worth experiencing.

Oh here's their website.

https://www.londonducktours.co.uk/

Looks like they can no longer offer the amphibious tour because they lost their slipway.

Oh, and if you are a fan of the BBC show Sherlock, go to the external Baker Street location used for the show, in North Gower Street just off Euston Road. You'll recognise Speedy's cafe (which is a real place) from the show. Not quite Abbey Road zebra crossing, but a good place for selfies.

It has croissants too
And delicious wraps.

I've passed a few already but wasn't sure about the quality. Good to know for lunch 💁🏻‍♀️

Also i can give you some night life tips too depending on your taste of music!

Hmm depends on my mood, so I'd EDM or pop songs for now

Real good food at Spitalfields Market. Dumpling Shack and Bleeker St. Burger are amazing.

Plenty of good pubs to try some real ale, takes some getting used to but is great in this weather.

Dishoom, Black Dal, worth the queue.

Anyone else been to that Turkish bakery in Leicester Square, close to the Lego Store I think. Went there last October and the food was really nice. Then of course while I was sitting eating a sausage outside we got accosted by Vegan protesters.

What kind of things do you like doing?

Art, history and shopping is my speed, but I think I've exhausted the notable options for those(unless there's something things I'm missing).
Even did the tourist-y thing of going to a field to stare at an ancient rock pile :P

Been wanting to go on the ghost tours but no one else wants to go ;_;

The museum at Royal Observatory Greenwich is far better than it has any right to be, and won several awards back when it opened.
The British Library near King's Cross often has good exhibitions on, and their permanent gallery includes things like a Shakespeare first folio, Jane Austen's Writing Desk, original Beatles lyric sheets, and the Magna Carta.
Gosh comics in Soho is a small but high-quality shop that specialises in European and indy comics, with a really good atmosphere. It's also not far from all the secondhand bookshops near Charing Cross.

Also seconding this. The perfomers change from day-to-day, and some are really impressive.

I strongly recommend to go and see The Book of Mormon musical on Piccadilly.
Even if you are not a fan of musicals and/or South Park, it's a fantastic show.

Or just go see something else that is more up your theatrical alley.

Lots of the known museums are really good in London. The British Library is cool as well, since I didn't see that on your list.

Borough market is cool to go to, but you wont be getting much there unless money isn't too much if a problem for you.

My favourite thing in London is food though. I don't think you'll find another place with as many food cultures in one city.

Seeing BoM tomorrow thankfully. Not sure I'll have enough time to see another play/musical 🤔

I would recommend Hampton Court. It is about half an hour/ 40 minutes by train from waterloo but is a really nice place to visit.

Also Greenwich Park and the meridian. That isn't too far out, is pretty and has a beautiful view of the city. You can then get a boat back to Westminster (or you can do the other way) and it is a nice way to see it.

I love both, though they are just far enough from the centre to make you think twice. If the history of science is as big a deal to you as it is to me, I recommend a day spent in Greenwich. There's the Cutty Sark (or what remains of it), the Observatory with its lovely Meridian line, and there's the wonderful Maritime Museum set in the old Naval College. If you enjoyed Thor 2, you'll love the latter.

And even on top of all that, Greenwich is a great place to be. It has its own unique flavour and it's very welcoming to visitors.

Greenwich isn't too bad to get to depending on where you're staying though admittedly Hampton Court is a bit out of the way. I honestly think the Observatory, the Cutty Sark as you mention and the view of the whole city/central that you get from the hill makes it one of the best places to visit. The weather is lovely currently as well and this kind of stuff is much improved by that .

Yep. The hill was significant because this was before electrical telegraphy so you needed to have a way for a ship's master to set the ship's timepiece by training his telescope on the signal from the hill (by the early 1800s this was very real and a time ball was installed at Greenwich and many other nautical reference points).

The docklands died out about fifty years ago, but the locations still exist and if you love history this is a great place to live it.

I didn't know about how the hill was used, this is really interesting. I need to go back some time soon!

Park Life!

Highgate cemetery is worth a wander, and almost all of the big parks are lovely to explore or picnic at. The Museums are a must. Markets can be thought of a food sampling touristy - or proper shopping - Camden is a nice place to walk to and around and you can follow the canal path from King's Cross all the way and see what the back of modern fancy London housing looks like.

Have Pie N Mash - (bland but reasonable) Jellied Eels (disgusting old man stunt food) or a nice Ploughman's Lunch at a good pub. Also eat Indian food. Localized and authentic. Cheap or gourmet. It's all good.

Anything in and around Richmond. Kew, Richmond Park, the waterfront. What a lovely place.

Yeah, basically any day in my two decades plus in London that involved Camden Town was a win. I'm really ancient now but every day in Camden was a day added on to my youth. It's lovely. Walk, stop walking, eat, laugh, have fun, it's just a great place to be in this good weather.

I took my kids to Greenwich so many years ago. A little boy was running and I told him he was moving at 1000 miles an hour just by standing still. His dad confirmed it with a smile. I felt so proud as a parent.

Aww, that's adorable! 😄

The Indian food I've had was great though.

Got any pub recommendations? :P

Anyone know of a decent BBQ place btw? I want to try BBQ from this side of pond.

Bodeans was the big player last time I looked into London's BBQ scene and it was lovely when I went, but that was at least 7 years ago (possibly longer...) so I don't know where they stand now. That list includes them and a bunch of other names though, so you can probably take your pick from there if no one else chimes in with a personal recommendation.

If you want an upscale-ish Indian food dining experience, I absolutely *loved* Dishoom. I'm sure locals will know of cheaper/more authentic Indian spots with less of a wait, but I don't think you can go wrong w/ Dishoom.

I was just down there for 5 nights, went to MCM, the big museums, and also some of the arcades and markets (moomin/tintin stores etc)

Also is there a proper thread for MCM meetups? I saw the BritEra thread but it seems kinda dead
