PS5 specs
  • 8 core AMD 7nm Zen 2 based on third generation Ryzen.
  • Ray-tracing support with custom AMD Navi GPU.
  • Custom AMD unit for 3D Audio, also aided by ray-tracing, a big upgrade. Hot on the heels of Sony having acquired near-industry-standard AudioKinetic.
  • Extremely fast high-end custom SSD storage faster than any solution currently available for PC:
Spider-Man load times on PS4 Pro: 15 seconds → 0.8 seconds on next-gen PlayStation. Huge practical game changer opening up for new design opportunities.
  • Technically supports 8K but Cerny demoed Spider-Man load speed improvements on a 4K screen.
  • New Virtual Reality platform strongly hinted at but also supports current PSVR (meaning millions of VR users 'day one').
  • Death Stranding might be a cross-gen title (speculation in article based on Cerny reply).
  • Physical Media.
  • Backwards Compatible with at least PS4.
  • Four years in development so far.
  • 2020
This is looks like a big step, bigger than PS3 -> PS4 and it's better than expected, i think Sony can easily launch PS5 at $499.
What do you guys think?

I think I could see it at $499, but I would not adopt early at that price.

I'm hoping it's $399.

I'll go off the board and say it's 2 SKUs at $449 and $549- the difference will be hard drive space or something.
Microsoft has proven that you can sell a $500 console with the One X, but I just think that $500 as your cheapest model is too risky to do- It killed Sony with the PS3, and Microsoft with the Xbox One w/Kinect

Not sure how they pack dat SSD tech in there for only $399, but whatever. A beefy CPU/GPU and negligible load times would easily be worth $499 to me.

The X proved it can be done and Sony will have far more demand for PS5 than the X

I'm not sure where you got your specs.

Regardless, based on nothing, I would be a little surprised at $499. That sounds like a lot for mass adoption out of the gate. Then again, maybe they'll keep riding the PS4 as the "lower sku" with the goal of dropping price as time goes on and roping people in with forward compatible game libraries. I guess I've talked myself into $499.

$499 is the minimum I see this thing is Sony is willing to sell it at a heavy loss. I expect it to be $599

$499 is optimistic in my opinion. Unless they produce separate iterations of the PS5 at various pricing tiers, I expect to pay $600 minimum for what they're offering.

I think they can squeeze it into $400 if they raytracing is thoroughly 8th rate, the super speed SSD is actually quite slow and/or small, and the CPU is very low clocked...
