So this was posted earlier today. I'm just going to copy and paste my post on it in the pre-release thread.
Could this maybe be a cross-play demonstration? Or at the very least a confirmation of it? We know 2K and Gearbox have been looking into it but nothing official has been announced yet.

It's either cross-play or some more information on co-op but they're hyping this hard so I'm leaning towards the former. The Microsoft Store had listed the game as having cross-play but that was removed, though it could have just been with PC. We know Steam and Epic Store players can play with each other so it remains to be seen if PS4 and Xbox One players can match with each other INCLUDING PC or if this is just cross-play with PC only. Really hope it's the former. I see no reason why it can't be done considering games like Dauntless, Rocket League and Modern Warfare let Xbox players play with PlayStation players. If this turns out to be full cross-play, Borderlands 3 will be the fifth game ever to have full cross-play support across all platforms alongside Fortnite, Dauntless, Rocket League and Modern Warfare.

"We know that Epic store and Steam can play with together."

People on PC can play together. Thanks Epic and Gearbox. :""")

Im guessing it's full on crossplay with everything if they're making an event about it.

Ooof Crossplay would be HUGE for this game. It would be easier to achieve if they use the Epic ID system which is already in place on fortnite and Dauntless but isn't this game supposed to come out on Steam eventually?

God, we're getting there aren't we? It's agonisingly slow but bit by bit, we're creeping towards what is in my mind one of the most important advances in gaming. It's hardly a "floodgates have opened" situation but i'll take what i can get. Full standardised cross play hopefully by next gen is going to be a godsend for smaller games, now let's let the smaller game developers actually utilise this please.

Randy on PS4 can finally play with squirting barely legal camgirls on Xbox One

What the hell are you talking about?

This would be great but because of randy pitchford, it's hard not to be sour on the game.

Surprisingly all games with full crossplay have Epic meddling on them one way or the other: Fortnite, Dauntless, Rocket League and now maybe this.

If I'm on PS4 and I can play with PC/X1 friends this makes this an actual day one purchase for me (my old group is split up all over the place).

Rocket League has it's own system they have worked on and pushed for for years but yes they were just bought by Epic. Dauntless used Epic because their ID system fascilatated crossplay for them being a smaller Indy studio. I would be surprised to see Borderlands use the full Epic ID system in every platform but it would be the easiest way of implementing full crossplay.

I assume this is a joke, but do we actually know this?

Has it been confirmed that an Epic version and Steam version can play together as they would logically use Epic's stuff for online play from the epic store and steamworks for the steam version.

I've been worried for quite a while that I won't be able to play with my friends who are getting it on the EGS after I eventually get it on steam a year or so from now.

I've been assuming it's more likely that the PS4 version I'm buying at launch will play with the epic store than it is that the future steam version I get will play with the epic store lol.

(note got it on the PS4 because $40 to play through the campaign with my SO was far cheaper than $100 on the EGS for two copies. Steam version later because I'm gonna wait on a sale for the PC version since I need to buy two copies.)

I can only hope. The people I played Borderlands with are pretty scattered across platforms now, so full cross-platform would be terrific.

Jesus. Christ. I honestly didn't think i could have a lower opinion on Randy (unfortunate first name now i think about it) Pitchford but it seems i'm far too optimistic (naive?) a person. I'm trying to not take into account all the "alleged" stuff which hasn't been proven in a court of law like what people are supposed to do but even him happily going on the record about camgirls porn alone is so fucking gross that it just amplifies everything else in a way that's really, really hard to ignore.
