I got one recently as well, and all I've played so far is Zelda which is great. Thanks for the recommendations, y'all! Gonna try to squeeze all the good games out of the 3DS and hope the Switch gets cheaper in a year or two.

Still hands down the best platformer on the system, and not surprising because a lot of the designers for this game went on to make the Glorious God level platformer known to us mere mortals as Volgarr the Viking. Also has arguably the best soundtrack on the system, composed by the amazing Norihiko Hibino of MGS and ZoE fame! Just listen to this awesomeness:

Godlike game, godlike music. Seriously op, why are you not in your car yet on the way to go buy this masterpiece?! Get out of here before Jiro decides to turn you into an appetizer for the Mechalodon!

It's an amazing console OP.

What I can't reccomend enough is loading custom firmware especially since you can unlock the native GBA hardware support built into the NDS backward compatibility. What this means is perfect native GBA playback ontop of an already brilliant software library.

I mostly use my 3DS for casual games. Every Picross game is warmly recommended if you're looking for fun puzzles, there's even a Pokémon themed f2p one. It gets a bit grindy later on but it should be more than enough to see whether it's your cup of tea or not. The E series is 7 games that cost 5 USD/EUR each and pack tons of content, so you might like that. Mario Kart 7 is also one of the better titles of the series, despite the odd decision not to include single races - you can only do cups. Mario Maker is also one to have if you like Mario - while you can't do some of the social features of the Wii U version, it's literally an infinite library of 2D Mario, and that's awesome. I'll second A Link Between Worlds too. Oddly enough I don't have the other Mario, Metroid, etc. games on it so I'll stop here.
