That Black Lightning finale was good shit. Gambi just straight up shooting the racist Trumper was so satisfying.

Comparing it to how frustrating Team Flash can be when it comes to this (I think it was S4 where they were in a certain scenario...), it was immensely satisfying.

And with that, the 2017-2018 seasons of the Arrowverse has come to a close.

Arrow S6 - This was a noticeable step down from S5 but I also feel that it had no where to go but down after that incredible season. This was still a very good season and well above S3 and especially S4, largely because of what they end up doing with Diaz in the final few episodes. From "The Dragon" onward, he becomes a great villain. However, the teams fighting each other went on for far too long and it honestly made everyone on both sides really unlikable for a good stretch of episodes.

There were three changes that could have been made to elevate the season higher. First, have the Cayden James portion of the season end earlier. I largely liked his character but ending it earlier would have allowed Diaz to come to the front sooner. This leads me to the second change: "The Dragon" should have been an episode that aired immediately following Cayden's death. It would have cemented Diaz as a threat earlier, which was needed. And third, the team-fighting needed to be a shorter arc or just dropped completely.

The season ended up a very high note though with a string of great episodes and a really good finale. I'm sad to finally lose Chesthair but he lasted longer than I ever predicted.

Legends of Tomorrow S3 - What can I say about this that hasn't been praised in numerous places on Era? An absolute fucking blast and one of the best seasons of the Arrowverse. Honestly, if not for the greatness of Deathstroke, it might push above Arrow S2 for me. Legends has one of the best genre casts on television, where almost every character is a joy to watch play around, not unlike Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Praise Beebo.

Black Lightning S1 - This tops The Flash S1 as my favorite debut season in the Arrowverse. The cast is just fantastic, it dealt with real shit in the right way with blunt honesty and it never felt like it was holding back. It also used licensed music to its full potential. Hip hop is to Black Lightning as classic rock is to the early seasons of Supernatual. Very excited to see where the show goes.

The Flash S4 - Again, my thoughts on The Flash are just all over the place. Going back through the old Era thread, I see so many people saying the season was trash but I was largely entertained by it. Thinker was a much better villain than Savitar and it played out throughout the entire season, unlike the Savitar information dump at the end of S3.

Ralph was a great addition to the cast and really upped the season for me in a lot of ways. And a special MVP mention goes to Cecile. I didn't expect to enjoy her character as much as I did but her comedic moments are some of the season's highlights. She's great.

The series consistently requires turning your brain off. And that sucks but I think it comes with the character. I don't know if there is a way to do a Flash series that is true to the character's abilities without needing to suspend belief and just go with it. That doesn't mean characters need to be stupid though.

Supergirl S3 - Supergirl is a frustrating show. It has a good cast with likable characters but has a hard time of jumping above "it's alright." It felt as if it were on an upward trajectory with S2 but it was pulled back a bit in S3.

Reign had a lot of potential but it felt as if the writers didn't know what to do with her in the second half of the season. Sam spent too much time away from actually being Reign for numerous reasons, such as being locked up. I also thought it was a strange decision to basically have no relationship between Kara and Sam. It felt like they interacted a little in the early part of the season but moved away from it to focus on Sam and Lena. But if they're going to play up the split personality idea, Sam/Reign needed to have more of a connection to the character that the series is named after. I also think they made the Reign stuff a bit too convoluted in the final string of episodes. There was really no need for it.

My biggest frustration of the season was Mon-El. For the life of me, I don't understand the decision to change his character the way they did. It's as if the writers looked at all of the reasons why people liked Mon-El in S2 and said, "Let's do the opposite of that."

Also, James coming out as Guardian would have had more impact if he was, you know, actually being Guardian. Instead, it felt like they dropped that story (which I really enjoyed in S2) for most of the season up until the last few episodes. Honestly, the same could be said for Kara. It felt like she disappeared for far too long. Supergirl and Superman only work because of Kara and and Clark. If you put too much focus on their superhero alter egos, I personally become less interested.

I know this is mostly negative but I didn't hate the season or anything. It just feels like they can do more with the series. It should be able to reach the highs that Smallville could often hit but hasn't done it yet.

And now, the updated ranking:

Arrow S5
Arrow S2
Legends of Tomorrow S3
Black Lightning S1
The Flash S1
Arrow S1
Legends of Tomorrow S2
The Flash S2
Arrow S6
Supergirl S2
The Flash S4
Arrow S3
The Flash S3
Legends of Tomorrow S1
Supergirl S3
Supergirl S1
Arrow S4
Constantine S1

Looking forward to your continuing thoughts, especially about certain characters in Legends and the villains in Supergirl. You're almost done!

this was so dumb

yeah, a government fucking agency is going to unilaterally stop using guns, get the fuck out of here

I didn't mind that. It makes sense to me that Supergirl would work for an organization with the same general ideals as her.

I honestly thought it was largely handled well for most of the episode. The main exception was the scene at Catco between James and Lena, where they gave Lena the terrible lines about trying to understand each other's opinions and meeting each other halfway.

The rest of the episode leaned pretty hard in the anti-gun direction. It felt like they put that scene in the episode to appease the "get your politics out of my show" people.

Already started! Solid start to The Flash but I'm aware this is the Chris Klein season so I've already braced myself.

Just started Supergirl S4 as well. There's a villain near the beginning that looks like a porn star I enjoy. So there's that.

... I suppose the speed at which I thought of her means I should probably cut back on porn.

Great thing about Arrow is that they usually stick to their finales cliffhangers and the status quo isn't introduced. That's why it's able to extend it's world and have so many characters as writers don't just do a reset at the end of the first episode. So like even if say S4 sucked it led to the team being split and that let new technology members in. Same goes for S6 where the finally actually changes the status quo on the show fully.

Wait. Starting Legends S4 now.

I thought Keiynan Lonsdale was just guest starring in The Flash S5 premiere before moving back to Legends full time but he's not listed as main cast.

I'm confused.

What do you think of Tobias Whale as a villain? I think he's up there with the best.

Nah he just left the show, didn't want to be a TV regular anymore

Season 4 of Supergirl was really good last year and IMO the best of the main Arrowverse shows last year.

My ranking of those went: Supergirl > Legends > Arrow >>>>> Flash.

My main problem with Season 4 of Supergirl was

how they actually had 3 great villains and couldn't stick the landing on any of their stories

super frustrating

other than that, easily the best season of the show

wait that ending with Thawn-Wells wtf

YO SMALLVILLE GREEN ARROW DEAD

It was great, until the end that made it all pointless and dumb...
It's like it tried so hard, but screwed up at the end and wasted all that potential. At least to me.

You mean Cisco not breaching the dagger into another Earth? I almost threw my controller at the TV.

But other than, great episode.

Wait, why are people at the DEO standing and waiting for Supergirl to say who she is.

Didn't she used to walk around the DEO as Kara and like every employee knew who she was?

Feels like they got the green light on the big bad last minute and threw the other two under the bus to service him
