Just lost the Scarescrapet after delivering the 4th Toad to the room and it even said 4/4. Animation hadn't finished so we lost :(

I'm taking my sweet time with the game, I just beat Floor 10 (Pyramid floor) and am on Floor 11 now, 16 hours in, missing a gem from Floor 10 and 70% of the other Floors as well, they hide them well.

Finally cleared all the achievements! Goddamn that revive 20 teammates one was a pain. Had to actively sabotage Boolossus fights.

Can someone give me a hint to the boss fight on 6F? I don't want the answer straight away, but I tried the whole arsenal and can't seem to figure him out.

Best I came up with was luring him to grab Luigi while using Gooigi to ry and shoot the plunger in his armor. But so far no luck.

I think his shield can make it difficult for him to see sometimes.

(Let me know if you need a more direct hint.)

I haven't had much time to play this since it came out, but I'm up to the floor 10. I've been really enjoying it but the B2 Boss, with the way the
floaty controlled so damn imprecisely, and how its super easy for the boss to do 30 damage to you (hit with a spin right into spikes),
made for a ridiculously frustrating boss fight. Seriously F that one.

A lot of people have complained about that boss and I had no trouble (except for figuring out that after you damage him how best to position him so that you can get to him in time to vaccum him).

I think maybe people were playing around with suck/blow a bit too much (forward/reverse), I just kept it on suck and focused on going in one direction - it looks like you are driving backwards but I treated it as if I was driving forward. All you have to do is stay away and wait for him to tire out.

That is a good hint, thanks. But I've already looked it up last night, and won.

I guess that is supposed to be an easy one, because the game gives me hints sometimes (8f boss fight, for instance), but in this one, nada. The solution flew right over my head, though.

I actually like how many of the bosses you can run around for a while and not know what do. I just happened to notice him groundhogging.

8F btw was fantastic with the interconnected puzzle solving. The boss was also an amazing concept, but unfortunately played to some of the weaker or more finnicky control elements of the game. I never got stuck there figuring out what to do, it was just executing what to do that was difficult and not that fun. As a concept though, 8F is so brilliant and I smiled so hard when that boss fight kicked up.

I did encounter parts of the 10F where I got stuck and the game didn't help and there were timed deaths. Sucked because for many the 10F is their favorite.

I've been playing the game with my 3 and a half year old and am amazed how well he does in it. Little dude flashes and vacuums up ghosts like nobody's business.

It's our favorite game ever.

I'll have to play it with my kids now. Gooigi seems like an excellent mechanic for co-op with inexperienced players as he can't really die.

Just wrapped 10F. The boss fight was a great change of pace! Felt very Zelda like and was a great fit with the floors theme / mechanics.

This far into the game it continues to outdo itself.

That first-person toad cutscene was outstanding and has me wanting an outlast-style first-person luigis mansion 4 starring toad, lmao.

Me and the kids finished it today.

That was a really good game. The variety and pacing is just brilliant in the game. I thought this was going to be a very good game like Captain Toad or Yoshi, but honestly this is one of the better games Nintendo has made. It was really great.

Regarding the last boss.

My kids could not beat King Boo. That was pretty hard for them and honestly it took me 2 or 3 tries. The aiming of the bombs was tough for all of us. And the last one was timed so it was very frustrating if you fucked it up. But the ending was perfect for this game.

Another day another floor.

Loved the fitness center theme, and the level of interactivity on display regardless of it being simpler than the preceding floors. The boss fight caught me by surprise... I really expected another phase to it, especially after FL12.

Luckily, the polterkitty section directly following it is keeping the pacing in check. Really don't understand the hate for these sections, still loving it! Without them, I'd feel fatigued at the pace of the game, some form of backtracking is an essential part of games like this to me in order to appreciate the journey persay.

This game reminds me of Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze in the sense that it seems to have come and gone and generally been dismissed as another really good, solid update to a B-tier Nintendo franchise........but there are some of us that are going to look back on it as an all-time great game.

Just started playing this today - gotta be the most polished nintendo game I've ever played. Love it, it's like playing a CGI movie almost.

It's going to sell 6 million+ copies lifetime, mark my words. Tons of players will look back fondly on it.

I don't really like to use Amazon charts to gauge success, but Luigi has rarely left the top 10 since launch. It's likely selling incredibly well.

That's good to hear. Next Level and Nintendo deserve to be rewarded for this game. It's top tier stuff.

Absolutely. Even thought LM3 is going to be a massive seller it's being overlooked by the community for how high caliber it truly is. The animation is second to none, and well-crafted single player adventures are all-too-rare. It's probably #2 on my GOTY list.

History is going to be real nice to this one.

Yes, I'm glad it is selling well, but its not getting the critical respect and acclaim it deserves, much like DK:TF. I'm in my early 40s and I recognize how amazing, polished, and complex this game is.

I said this the Game Awards thread, but the video game media is dominated by 20 and 30 somethings and there is a bias to games that have 'mature' storylines in terms of giving critical acclaim. Its kinda the way the Oscars treatments movies that aren't dramas, as if they can be great but are an alternate form of entertainment for non-serious people and shouldn't be considered for Best Film.

I think right now this might be my #2 GOTY as well behind Sekiro.

End-game question. I know you get ranked on your mansion when you beat the game, but can you go back and improve your rank from your last save after you beat it? Say you get an A but you reload and collect more stuff to hit S, all on the same save file?

Yeah, it's not my idea of fun either.

This game is an interesting mismash of opportunities to poke around and find stuff that are fun, a bunch of puzzles of varying quality, and some really monotonous experiences like Polterkitty.

It's pretty and it's generally quite good, but I don't understand the "GotY-level game" talk that it gets in here.

I found the overall experience great but the unnecessary padding (polterkitty + that Toad escort mission WTF) really soured my time with it.

Phew, that was a shitty final boss.

Well, game finished. 7/10 game with gorgeous visuals.

Finished the game yesterday. Absolutely great game. Final boss was indeed a big disappointment, especially after how amazing LM2's final boss was. Kinda wish this game had some sort of new game+ like the hidden mansion in LM1, definitely doesn't seem like a very replayable game with how easy the fights and how puzzle based it is. Well, looking forward to whatever the scarescraper dlc is gonna be, as its current iteration isnt nearly a fleshed out as it should be compared to LM2's scarescraper.

Agreed. I hope the DLC adds some sense of progression and remixes in more of the SP content. The multiplayer modes feel oddly detached from the larger experience, especially ScreamPark. I'd prefer Single Player DLC ala FE:TH / Early BOTW (not extending the game, but adding new difficulty modes and such) and Scarescraper rather than more one-off party games.

I enjoyed it! Both times the game had me backtrack, I was already fatigued from the fairly linear floor -> floor structure. Had the game been more open-ended/metroidvania style, I think I would have naturally spent some time to comb back through the mansion to use new power-ups, etc. Something about the elevator structure has me less willing and excited to do that. Backtracking feels less fun when I have to do it twice to explore a floor (i.e. returning to the elevator) rather than simply being able to pass through to another part of the mansion hotel in the process. Then again, I also refuse to use the "warp to lab" option in the menu, as it gives me flashbacks to the way teleporting absolutely ruined LM2 for me.

Also, they used that mechanic when floors were short / dumped you right into a boss fight. Those moments were disappointing to me, to be teased with a new theme that was barely utilized, so I appreciated the breather of exploration after them.

I finally finished this thing with all Boos and gems.

So, this is a classic "The Devs Tried Shit" game. Nintendo in particular loves publishing these. The thing about them is that by their very nature, games like this either work to perfection for you and become a GotY/GotG favorite, or they are partial failures because too many poor design ideas got tossed into the metaphorical pot. The game design pot, you know.

This game, in that light, strongly reminds me of two other Nintendo games: Super Mario Galaxy and Captain Toad Treasure Tracker. One of them I think is a top ten Nintendo game all-time, and the other I personally find to be an interesting failure(and fyi, it's the reverse of what you think it is).

This is like squarely in the middle of those two poles for me. Sucking stuff up and breaking it is fun! Moving around isn't. Sucking up basic ghosts is satisfying! Most of the boss fights are tedious, multi-stage repetitions to finally get to the point where you can do damage. Hunting for gems is fun except for all the ones that ask you to do unintuitive things to get them (I still don't know why what I did to get the first available gem in the arboretum worked or what the sign was that I should have done on purpose what I did totally by accident to get it).

This even extends to the aesthetics. The game looks great, but I'm not sure that I remember any of the music.

I also think that some of the clues for when you should use the blacklight (like tiny hinges that indicate something that should be there, held in place by said hinges) are kinda hard to see in handheld mode.

When the game works, it works. It's satisfying to notice something in a mirror that should be where you're standing and then to blacklight it into existence, for example, or to make an observation that unravels a puzzle's solution. I wish that stuff happened more often in this game.

This is somewhere between #10 and honorable mention on my GotY list right now. I am going to have to think about this one.

Just finished this. Third favorite game this year only behind 3 houses and RE2. Next Level Games is becoming a top tier Nintendo studio now.
