The Mad About You revival has found a home. The Sony-produced comedy that will reunite Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt has been picked up by Spectrum Originals, Charter Communications' premium content platform that's available by subscription.

Peter Tolan will serve as the showrunner, and Hunt will direct the first episode of the revival that's being called a limited series for now. Danny Jacobson, who co-created the show with Reiser, will serve as an executive consultant for the series that will launch in late 2019.

"We are beyond thrilled to team up with Sony Pictures Television to give Mad About You an exclusive home at Spectrum Originals," added Original Content head Katherine Pope in a statement. "Two decades ago, fans fell in love with this show, and this time will be no different as Paul, Helen and Peter explore modern marriage through the eyes of two people who have just become empty-nesters. We can't wait for everyone to fall in love with the Buchmans all over again."

Negotiations to revive the series, which aired on NBC from 1992 to 1999, began in 2018. The sitcom focused on the marriage between a documentary filmmaker (Reiser) and a PR specialist (Hunt). Hunt won four Emmys for playing Jamie Buchman.

Spectrum Originals will launch this year with the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced drama L.A.'s Finest starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba. Other series in the works include the street race drama Curfew and a show called Manhunt.

Seems like no one real was interested in this. It does seem like a bottom of the barrel revival. No one was asking for this.

I really like Helen Hunt but this definitely a weird choice for a reboot. Even in its most popular season it was only the 11th highest rated show of the year, most other years it was in the 30's and lower. I doubt this does well but as a limited series, why not if the actors are on board.

Will everything just be a throwback or sequel at some point in the near future? The obsession with looking back and nostalgia is getting ridiculous.

They just bring old shows back now? How about Just Shoot Me! (with all the problematic humor removed)

I enjoyed the show . . . but wasn't the final episode or two a flash forward to wrap everything up?

God, this just reminded me of that sweet but sad email Paul Reiser sent Sony about Mad About You on DVD.

Well, searching amazon looks like they finally got it done. I'm not sure who this revival is for, but I guess people watched Roseanne and Will & Grace so whatever I guess. Kind of makes you wonder when the friends revival is, but I'm guessing they would have a hard time getting Jennifer Aniston back.

The Friends cast currently make $20m each per year on reruns alone. How much do you think it would cost to get them all to come back and film new episodes.
