Fucking hell, man. Condolences to the families and RIP to the victims.

German newssites call this an act of terror. US sites doing the same or calling it a "mass shooting"?

Why aren't 4chan, 8chan, and the like getting shut down? I always wondered this, but now It's the only thing I can think of. How are these sites still around? I just don't get it

Money, if I had to guess I'd say some hosting companies know that not a lot of companies will not host these fuckers, so they do it and charge a premium.

Because the perpetrator is white, Australian and a christian.

Everyone should watch this , it's exactly how the media should be reporting this disgusting act

I am in tears. After reading horrible comments about this tragedy online all day ( some people are fucking enjoying it ), this is the first honest, humane and wise statement that I have seen.

I watched the beginning of the video streamed by the terrorist. Do not watch a single second of it. It makes you lose hope towards humanity, towards life. My heart goes out to all that were directly affected by this atrocious supremacist.

Can Facebook/Twitter/Google do better in taking down the videos? I know it must be extremely difficult but surely there must be some way, because at the moment the video is everywhere

One thing they can do is to stop allowing videos and pictures to be uploaded for a few hours while they clean up whatever has been uploaded. But you know they won't do that.

He mentions contacting someone close to him and receiving a blessing for his 'mission'. I have no idea if that's true, but it needs investigating

It could be bullshit because at the time Breivik claimed he was part of a network but Police at the time found no evidence of that, the conclusion was that he acted alone.

But there are sympathizer with him out there so this shooter was inspired by him atleast.

I just turned on my morning news here in Texas and they are reporting that police are being stationed outside the Islamic Association of North Texas just to be safe.

The fact that is even necessary is blood boiling.

What a fucking tragedy. How the fuck do you go shoot a bunch people at a place of worship? These people are basically looking for peace, solace and maybe some help.

Pittsburg, Charleston , and now this :/

I just hope isis wannabes don't start think about revenge attacks now.

Even if those 3 blocked the videos, you'd still have sites like liveleaks who live on hosting this shit and glorify Human misery. The whole internet needs to be policed.

Because they're dickless cowards, gunning down defenseless unarmed people when they least expect it.

Absolutely horrible news. RIP victims. :'(

So, if I'm understanding right, not only did he massacre a mosque - but also had time to get in his car, drive to another mosque, and go on a killing spree there too?

Unfortunately, that wouldn't be the first time that a suspect used the initial confusion to commit even more crime.

Must be a pain to coordinate the police response for this and getting a clear picture of the situation.

Why aren't 4chan, 8chan, and the like getting shut down? I always wondered this, but now It's the only thing I can think of. How are these sites still around? I just don't get it

This is what I asked when I''ve 1st learned about 8chan, as well. Not sure how a site like this can exist on the non-Dark Web internet. How is Law Enforcement not going after these sites, especially when they are hosting child porn and other inhuman things?

The only question I have about the video is if it captures his arrest? How was he taken alive?

We have to deplatform hate. So sorry for the victims.

Facebook, Twitter and Google should be ashamed of themselves for not doing more to take down the videos. Absolutely inexcusable and unacceptable.

Tragic stuff, unfortunately hate is something that will never be snuffed out. I don't think it's possible.

This is the world we live in, wish I didn't bring kids into it.

I am shaking right now in horror. I feel so disgusted, angry, furious, livid that something like this has happened.

A very close person in my life have used the disgusting words "All Muslims are not terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims". A blatant disregard to history and now catastrophes like this. I hear these words again and again in my head reading these news and it absolutely boils my fucking blood.

It makes my physically sick that people are gonna rationalise that this attack was by some "crazed murderer", trying to tip toe around the T-word as to keep themselves oblivious that our culture is breeding hateful fucking ignorant pieces of shit ready to murder hundreds of peaceful citizens of our countries.

My condolences to all victims, to muslims and to the people of New Zeeland. NZ should not have to be associated with this shit. The most horrifying thing I should be thinking about when thinking of New Zeeland is that ring wraiths once walked there or that evolution came up with the Kiwi bird and thought "Yeah this is enough".

Congrats America. You are now officially a country that is exporting its hateful ideology. Right up there with the Saudi's.

Yup. Even the former mayor of that city said the same - that this is the sort of thing they thought only happened far away from their islands.

This is on America. Years of mass shootings with no effort at all on the part of the American government to prevent them has normalised these barbaric acts and now idiots all over the world are copying them. The American corporations that do nothing to combat this poisonous mentality on their own websites are similarly to blame for this. Facebook actually allowed this shit to be livestreamed and did nothing about it?

Increased knife crime in the UK, mass shootings in countries where this sort of thing just doesn't happen and increasingly dangerous and insidious ideologies spreading like wildfire... The world looks up to America as the example to follow and now look where that's gotten us.

I don't think anyone is looking up to America anymore after Trump...

Does NZ have similar gun laws to Australia?

not as tough as Australia, but still tough. buying a gun requires a strong background check and Assault rifles and pistols must be registered with the police.

but unlike Aus majority of the guns here are not registered. I suspect this is going to change after this.

Unbelievably horrific news. All the best to victims and their families. I hope they manage to dig into the person or people who did this.

Tragic stuff, unfortunately hate is something that will never be snuffed out. I don't think it's possible.

While everything seems absolutely fucked and hatred does appear to be everywhere, remember that when you look at the actual hard numbers, violence and crime and death and basically everything bad has been in decline for decades because we're always improving society (even if telecoms and the internet certainly doesn't make it feel like it)

Watched the full video. You hear a lot about how insane these automatic rifles are, but actually seeing it is something else. In less than a minute, he slaughters an entire room filled with innocent people.

We have to get rid of these weapons everywhere. They do not belong outside of the military, and each one needs to be tracked to ensure they never fall into the wrong hands.

Does anyone know if the police presence at Islamic sites and businesses in the US today is gonna be a common theme? Or is whats going on here in Texas the exception?

I have to imagine there will be increased security everywhere right?

They are semi automatic rifles, not true machine guns (the U.S. govt. term for full autos).

I know that, in London, they're dramatically increasing police presence near mosques for a while, just in case. They're not even risking a copycat.

Sadly, they weren't even automatic rifles. Both rifles used were semi auto, along with a pump action shotgun. These were civilian models which killed 49 people in the span of seconds.
