Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san is a cooking manga. My experience of cooking is largely similar to Sophie's - seeing words like 'simmer', 'garnish' and 'non-poisonous' in recipe books still confuses me. My choice of protective outfit is comparable as well, both while making and eating it.

Me too, but the part of me that I'm worried about an unknown animation could degrade its charm like Prison School TV anime with "recycled" in order to make it comical anime. Don't get me wrong, Prison School anime version was great and all but I just had a hunch that it may be a bland.
Thinking of reading Kengan Ashua. A friend recommended it to me since I liked Baki.

For all of this series' inconsistent quality, I have nothing but positive things to say about the ending. Goki's pretence at being a decent human cockroach was masterfully executed, and I sincerely hope that one day she's able to successfully achieve fr■■ndsh■p between insects with Alice. And then as the perfect final note, Kabutomushi shows up in the epilogue wearing gothic lolita. A part of me hopes their search is at least touched upon in Caterpillar, but if not I'd be perfectly happy with this being my last memory of spider girl.

Kemuri & Mitsu (One-shot)

I was intrigued by the art on the cover, so I grabbed this volume out of my collection of Harta magazines. The art gave me a Meiji era vibe. The women are still very traditionally dressed, as is something that continues even today in some formal events in Japan, while the men tended to adopt a more Western fashion. That's our setup. Despite Japan having issues even today with gender equality, it was much worse at this time. Men could get away with quite a lot, and that's a theme that carries through Kemuri & Mitsu (or Smoke & Nectar -shutter-).
Not a lot is concrete in this manga, but one can assume from the interactions between the two characters that the girl is the daughter of a well-to-do family, while the man is somehow in their service or connected to the father. It is a fairly generic setup in terms of the girl being young and naive, while the man is more experienced and romantic. Neither character really has much depth.
The art is obviously the standout part of Kemuri & Mitsu. The two page spread is the best (and worst, but we'll get to that) moment, really exemplifying how talented this artist is. The detail in the clothing, the way the backgrounds show so much about the home and time period, and the many flowers. Unfortunately, the art is not enough to carry this one.
Spoiler time, I guess. What really bothered me most about this manga was the relationship itself, and as that's completely integral to the story, it cannot be brushed off. The man strikes me as a pedophile. This is a romance to be hidden, as one can surmise from the title and its final page. The introduction refers to him as an adult man, and to her as a girl (which has the connotation of also potentially being a virgin, which is only compounded by the final panel of the story). "But Mr. Aizo-man, there are legitimately fantastic works that depict objectionable content—like Lolita!" Yes yes, quiet down. The way the relationship is shown in something like Lolita is the important part; unlike Humbert, the man in this story is not really shown to be doing anything wrong. It's shown to be romantic and dangerous (in a sexy kind of way, rather than a—ahem—predatory way). The two page spread, showing the kiss is beautiful in that the art is very well done, but the actual event filled me with such conflict. Seeing something uncomfortable and pretty at the same time is an odd feeling.
The flowers throughout the piece present a consistent and obvious theme: this girl is becoming a woman. She isn't, though. She is very obviously still quite young. The blooming flower in the final panel does little to dissuade me from the revulsion I felt. The manga can be summed up similarly. Despite its pretty shell, within is a dark message glorifying depredation of a girl's naivety and trust.
This is precisely how I felt reading Giséle Alain, and it was frustrating because apart from that I loved that manga.
SPOILERS AHOY:
They keep trying to paint Giséle as becoming a woman but she's not, she's 13. And all I can see Eric and Colette as pedophiles because of it, especially Colette. Very few characters in a fictional setting got under my skin like she did, giving a 13 year old girl a fucking lap dance and then a full on kiss (still completely naked, mind you) afterward? And trying to pass it off as "just stuff between girls" and be her "big sister" after she realized she wasn't emotionally ready for that kind of contact (because you know, she's 13 and you put your tits in her face and made out with her)? No Colette, fuck you. You're a goddamn predator with a history of doing that to other girls her age, to boot based on her other "lovers".
At least Eric acknowledged he shouldn't be having the feels for a pre-teen even if he still did. Giséle herself was adorable and the series was mostly charming and well written but I couldn't get past wanting Colette to die in a fire. Series ended up getting canned (permanent hiatus) so I guess I don't have to worry about how it would have ended (probably with Giséle and Eric being a thing).

They pull you in with the wonderful art, and then they get ya with the creepy situations. I had no idea she was 13 when I read a volume years ago.
Look at it this way, you dodged a round and don't have to invest in a series you'll likely never see a conclusion for.
But yes, the art was good. A shame, that was.

There're reasons to read Arachnid, but the battle shounen elements aren't chief among them. For me, the largest selling points were the unhinged female cast and the occasional bursts of yuri.

Good start and good for JUMP to finally let an exorcist manga break free of the JUMP SQUARE binds and try to make a name for itself in the weekly magazine. Really emotional and fun chapter one on all levels. I wish Zaji could have stuck around to join Tamaki though could have been cute...though maybe. Also Tamaki design is everything I love in a character design. Really one of the better/best done boy raised by the wild and leaves to society type of starts in literature.
