I thought you guys might appreciate this. I got an autograph from the illustrator for the manga remake of Dororo today at Sakuracon. He drew this for me.

Nice. Kinda relevant, found a neat 100 yen sample chapter of Dororo walking around today. Crazy how the art was revamped

Wish OPM didn't have so much fanservice. Ah, well.

Murata definitely knows his audience.

Pokemon Adventures Black and White + B2W2 Vol 1 and 2

This was alright. Kinda continues the trend of the adaptations being worse than the actual games but I like it. That was really weird for Gen 5 while I'm thinking about it. I don't think there's ever been such a dropoff in quality between the games and the manga/anime before that lol.

I remember dropping this years ago because Black was really annoying but picked it up again and he grew on me eventually. Really a shame that White got shafted here with the showbiz stuff being the least interesting stuff in the whole thing and then when she finally get's to battle most of it is developed offscreen. I don't think the authors knew the Shadow Triad were gonna get actual designs later lol. I liked Iris a lot here. A shame that Bianca wasn't featured much because I feel like what there was of her was pretty good (I feel like the manga kinda glossed over her dad issues and kinda played them for laughs when they seemed to be a lot more serious here than in the game??? Like she literally says she ran away from him multiple times...ehh)

B2W2 is... hmm. Well I wouldn't say it's bad but it's different...Whitely is such a nothing character so far, and Blake is just so good at everything that he's boring to watch. I'm more reading it for the Team Plasma shenanigans since White and Black aren't here yet, and Colress really shines here.

Act Age Death Island Arc

In my quest to catch up on the jump series I got back to act age today. I had been impressed by it's jump start run and just wow it's first arc really delivered on that early promise. The characters are all incredibly strong and the drama between them feels real in a way that few other shonen manga can. It feels bizarre to think this is a shonen jump series since it feels really out of place compared to other series in the magazine. I highly recommend anyone who's looking for something to read to check it out.

Act Age Galactic Train Arc

Just wow, I don't think I've been this gut punched by a shonen arc since I read the ending of the Chimera Ant arc. The twist during the arc combined with the amazing art during the opening night production, I dunno what to say. I'm still shook and it's been over an hour since I finished the arc in question.

I read the arc after and it was really good as well, I just wish they had dwelled a bit more on the "what if tomorrow you couldn't act anymore" scene since it was really strong and felt kinda rushed/glossed over.

Yeah, I had already been enjoying act age a lot but the play arc really impressed.
Didn't the author say this is the last arc?
Think we've gotten "decisive battle/climax" mentioned. Not sure if author has said final arc explicitly themselves the way the author for TPN did, but I could be wrong. Authors can be fairly liberal with what constitutes a final arc though.

(please come back soon gintama)

So all I've got left is to catch up on Jujutsu and Haikyuu before I'm caught up with every shonen jump series viz simulpubs.

I have no interest in reading I Am Japan or David for a number of reasons but I'll tl;dr and say it's because they SUUUUUCK.

No one is doing an official simulpub for haunted hotsprings, so I guess that just leaves Sumo as the odd one out. Perhaps I'll catch up on it as well sometime before the year ends.

One Punch Man Hot damn that Orochi spread!

My Toga Academia I'm actually not too hot on this fight. I dunno, most of what I enjoy in Toga is when she teases Deku and the other character's just aren't interesting enough for her to really work off of.

Kaguya chapter I dunno 90 something to current I finally got around to catching up and everyone was right, that confession was fucking top notch! It also helps I read it drunk so I was sobbing at true love existing. Kinda bummed about this Ice Kaguya stuff, it feels like a weird hurdle to put up right after something so nice and wonderful. Anyway who cares about that. Do you see that on the horizon? Why yes that is a love triangle approaching us. And why yes, I am way too excited for it!

Haven't read that much of David, but from the chapters I've looked through, it looks decently funny and has a nice aesthetic.

In addition to being a gag manga like David, Japan seems to be surviving mostly on its ability to support tourism lol.

And wait, I knew it was getting an anime, but it's already airing?! Goddamn.

Visiting my parents for Easter. I had gotten some stuff sent to their place a while ago so I finally got my hands on this:

wOLp71p.jpg

Radiant Vol 11 from Tony Valente (already read a digital copy though, it's 👍), and Lost Children Vol 1 from Tomomi Sumiyama. Looking forward to reading the latter for the first time, I don't really know anything about it apart from the fact the cover looks cool lol

Act-Age 62

Didnt realize music videos could just me like this, wonder if its based on IRL.

Higuma 17

Not ending as well I guess, as not point to end the figure if it were.

Neo;lation 18

Guess people who said the manga is ending is #FakeNews. Definitely not the type of chapter you do if it were. In any case, enjoyed them working together.

YGO ARC-V 45 END
D4s9hmxWsAMWeXt.jpg:small

Great ending. Wish the brothers could come back, and kind of expected it too, especially since we have no clue what world Sakaki Yuuya and Akaba Reiji went too.

Favorite YGO manga.

Last Saiyuki 8
D4tEAUVXsAA6FJe.jpg:small

Really good new character designs, actually across the board everyone is a good designs. Our MC duo is pretty good with their nyoibo making shapes and controlling antagonists (well the copy of the kid).

Great chapter.

It's the story of Kei, a 16 year old girl trying to raise her younger siblings after their mother dies. She is obsessed with film and escapes into it to avoid the stress of the life she's living. Her siblings push her to attend an open audition where she catches the eye of a renegade director. Kei is a method actor and she dives so deep into whatever role she's playing that she loses sight of the world around her. While the big casting company believe this makes Kei dangerous to put into film, the rogue director pushes her into the spotlight, and she begins to have a bit impact on the other actors and actresses who come from more traditional acting schools of thought.

The series follows Kei as she attempts to grow as an actress across commercials, movies, plays, and even music videos. The series has an excellent balance of humor, drama, and tragedy that really embraces all elements of being a famous actor/actress. The art is really well done as well and you can feel the beauty of the cinematography and staging that the characters describe.

Yeah, but I meant the first three should give you a good idea of what it's about.

Also, I think fan translations are out there to bridge the gap.
Yeah I just wanted to know if it was a series that was worth looking for fan translations for, I saw that the first chapter was about acting and at first I wasn't interested in that premise but then I heard a lot of praise about the series so I was wondering about happened in the manga to warrant all the new praise I've been hearing about it

the galactic train arc which was like running during the the past few months was just plain amazing and the following chapters were, IMO just as good. Only heard praise from everyone about the train arc, moreso than anything prior

It's unfortunate that viz is in no rush to fill the gap/release volumes. It's worth the effort to read however you're able to.

Finished reading the first volume of Lost Children. I'm enjoying it so far!

The story takes place in a country that's a mishmash of many Asian countries, with inspiration ranging from China to India, going through Nepal, Bhutan, Vietnam, etc. India's caste system in particular is a big influence on the story.

jSbEBkR.jpg

We're following two boys. The first one, Ran, is a Gathiya, a member of the lowest caste, and as such grew up deprived of many things.

He's now a member of a revolutionary army (acting as an infiltration and CQC specialist) which aims to overthrow the military and bring rights to oppressed minorities. In addition, he's looking for his childhood friend, which he was separated from.

This childhood friend is the second main character, Yuri. He grew up in a rich family of a higher caste, but he's how disfigured, blind, and acts as a priest in a small mountain village.

He seems to be eaten by guilt about some past incident which hasn't been fully covered yet.

Most of the first volume focuses on introducing the characters and their back story. There's a few short action scenes. It's a Seinen so it can get pretty gorey:

DNXt4XM.jpg

I read through it all pretty quickly and it left me wanting for more. I like the world building and the characters and I think it's got potential.

There are also some cute panels:

hpatihy.jpg

Now I have to be patient to avoid importing the other two volumes right away and paying out the ass for shipping haha

Thanks for reading Act-Age, I love you for that. It sure is a special series and it reminds me of Sket Dance which is one of my favorite manga. They're very different but similar in that they're pretty unique manga. Currently, Act-Age is up there as my favorite series on shonen jump along Bokuben. The rest of the order is undecided. lol

Also, If you liked act-age, I recommend you to read Runway the Aratte which is a fantastic manga about fashion and models from Shonen Magazine.

Look, read the first chapters on the app/site, then go to scans, then you use the app/website again when you reach the current ones. I never had to do that because I was up in date with the scans of the majority but for people that are just beginning, that's the solution for now until they translate what's missing.

Mangaplus is the thing btw, official from Shueisha.

I bought enough Berserk numbers to read since the start until the end of the Golden arc. The first two numbers were good, but damn, I felt bad for Guts when Theresia shout out she hate him :(

This week

Enjoyed
Jujutsu Kaisen
One Piece
Dr. Stone
Act Age
Hell Warden Higuma
My Hero Academia
The Last Saiyuki
The Promised Neverland
We Never Learn

Eh
Black Clover
Shokugeki no Soma
neolation

And then there's Yui Kamio Lets Loose. Looks like this is going full fanservice, which will probably do more to let it survive than anything, TBQH.

I'm pretty surprised Higuma and neolation look like they're still moving forward with their stories, after they seemed like they might wind down. I still expect them to end sooner than later, though.

Kind of disappointed The Last Saiyuki is connecting Ryunosuke to Son Goku after all, but the action is great. I like the design of the new girl, but the new guy is dorky looking.

The same thing happened with red sprite where it just stopped after giving the pitch for the rest of the series. I believe new series are starting in May so that'll he likely when death comes for neo and higuma.

Would totally be in the group buying it for the cards and codes.

always surprised this trends older (but then again, it doesnt even say if they poll people 15 and younger...) since most of the jump sq titles are still with the same leads and themes that would be found in jump (exorcists). still sq was always my favorite, always had more of the series I loved when they were translated.

It has to do with the fact that monthly shonen magazines focus on older readership like 16-18 even if they're shonen, unlike weekly shonen magazines that focus on 10 to 17, for example.

It makes me feel sick to my stomach to say the only one of those I'm not confident on is David actually ending.
