Did Jump publish the wrong chapter? How did we get here? Who the fuck are these people?

I'm guessing it's supposed to be their introduction since they have name boxes.
I think it's a flashback. Glasses guy is the same Gojo who placed third in the popularity poll (surprised he wasn't higher). We've met most of the characters before. Utahime and Mei were in it two chapters ago. Series threw a ton of characters at us in that competition arc so it's hard to keep track.

The decision to cold open on a contextless flashback, the purpose of which is still unclear by chapters end, is pretty bizarre. I'm confused but also amused.

Anya's the best. That douchebag deserved it.

Poor Lloyd's going to have a heart attack.

So the lady who went all Hudson on her first mission was actually super competent this whole time. Also, God damn it's barely 3 volumes in and so many named characters got axed.

damn thanks for the heads up on spy x family. This is gold. I could see this becoming a comedy anime classic if it ever gets an adaptation. The humor isnt even particularly straight man/clown so it seems like it'd translate fairly well.

According to Yonkou, the first episode of the Dr. Stone anime cut the Trump cameo.

But he does show up in Hinomaru Zumo

Speaking of chapters that don't quite follow the last, the previous chapter of Yui Kamio Lets Loose ended with creepy dolls attached to Yui's chains and then this chapter just jumps to the next day. Still, even if I don't quite know what happened, I'm way more intrigued by this series now than I ever was when it was a pure comedy. A Japanese doll having a human eye explode out of it, resulting in another girl's eye getting cut, is the kind of creepiness I want to see.

I might even go as far as to say Yui is now one of the Jump series I look forward to most each week, though that is largely because this is such a big change from how it used to be.

I'm curious if Ishida will ever come back to write a new manga series. However, I imagine Tokyo Ghoul really burnt him out. He even said in the last Re Vol that he began getting burnt out during the 7th vol of Tokyo Ghoul.

If he ever does come back I feel a monthly release would be a better fit for him. Anyway I would definitely read any manga series from him if he were to write one. I really do enjoy his beautiful art and from his twitter account it seems like he's been improving a lot.

Finally, my favorite character gets to show his stuff. Best monster.

Kaguya 154

I'm glad all the love triangle stuff is solely with Ishigami/Tsubame/Iino and not with Prez/Kaguya. They're free of that nonsense.

Glad Tsubame is starting to show some actual personality other than "cute and nice". It's interesting to see that she can get jealous and even cunning/manipulative to get what she wants. And I agree with Ishigami and Onodera, Iino needs a chaperone at all times, especially with drunk. She is very easily persuaded.

I'm guessing that Ishigami and Tsubame will talk about how he's always looking out for her behind her back, Iino will overhear and run away, leading to her breaking her arm.

Also, he's probably stop being mean to you if you stopped confiscating all of his stuff and saying he has no redeeming qualities, Iino. Being nice is a two way street.

Don't Mess with my Discounts, Nagatoro 40

Glad to see the Prez is actually not going to be a love rival, she's just super strict. Other than that, somewhat predictable cliffhanger. Still think Prez has some weird exhibitionist side to her considering she's doing a nude self portrait for the second year in a row.

Blade of The Immortal Bakumatsu Arc

Just found out manji is back, not written nor drawn by hiroaki samura but art seems pretty close to early chapters of the OG
Another series to add to my list

Kaguya 154

Finally we are seeing what Tsubame is like personality wise. Will be interesting to see how in the hell this all leads to Iino's arm breaking.

Setting up a Gojo/Geto clash.
Yeah, probably at least get the Geto villain turn or set up for that. Timing is offbeat since it comes after they set up a main trio mission that Gojo doesn't appear to be involved in (yet anyways) so it may be a while before we get a Gojo/Geto meeting though I guess we will see.
Kimetsu no yaiba 164

O tanjiro you just raised a death flag somewhere in the world
I'm sure Tokito has this....

Itsuki, it's way too late to be trying to separate Fuutarou and your sisters. It's inevitable.

I still figure Itsuki is going to win the whole thing, but she doesn't seem to be the kisser. If she is, then they better have a good explanation about her bipolarness. Unless Fuutarou was referring to Itsuki when he says "I started to think you were special" since whoever kissed him was disguised as her.

That or the whole thing could be one big red herring. The mystery aspect of this series makes this the most interesting harem series I've ever read/watched/heard of.

Hmm, the translation for Kaguya's latest chapter defers quite a bit between the korean-translated version and the japanese-translated version.

Guess that makes sense considering the korean-translated version is essentially the translation of a translation.

I guess I'll keep doing what I do now and read the korean one first, but then read the more accurate japanese one when it comes out later.

World Trigger 180-181:
"I'm going to have rankings for all Border members." -Ashihara

"Rankings are total bullshit." -Also Ashihara

Well it looks like my prediction on the all rounder girl being the team ace once again was off the mark. Instead we get Yuba finally putting in a good word for Gunners by being a quick draw gunslinger. Also low key hype for Kazuma I guess as predictions for him being #1 gunner was on the mark.

Also Yuma once again impresses with scorpion versatility as not only was the shuriken a surprise but using it to set up a mole claw mantis was slick.

It's time for "interrogation" Princess review

Tags I'd give it: Comedy/Fantasy/Psychological (?)

This series really is a case of "do not judge a title by its name". Even the initial premise of the series raises some red flags: A princess is being held by the demon king and is sent to be executed but before then, she will be "tortured" relentless to extract vital intel. Yes, I thought this was going to be a very dark and/or perverted series solely judging by the title but I was pleasantly (and thankfully) surprised. The real reason I gave this series a chance was because one of the tags was comedy so that squashed most the chances it would be y'know torture porn.

0MCY0J3.jpg

Each chapter is self-contained and features either the recurring main demon interrogator or new interrogators (beast demon, demon twins, etc.) with a method of torture (toasted bread, playing multiplayer games, etc.).

y9zNcft.jpg

Initially the princess will resist temptation with commentary from her fellow prisoner/weapon Excalibur that she's a strong-willed princess who never give in to such childish tactics. But ultimately, the interrogators amp up the "torture" by commenting on how the delicious or fun the food/thing they're doing is and the princess gives in leaving Excalibur often exasperated (for being a literal sword—it's amazing sometimes how this is portrayed).

2uOhdGx.png

The intel the princess provides ranges from useful (locations of the kingdom's army) to useless (lobster blood is blue).

I can see how this can get old for some people though since it's so far a "monster of the week" (in this case torture of the week) format with the exception of one chapter. However, I find that's where the charm of the series comes from is seeing how ridiculous/wholesome the torture methods get (initially offering red bean buns then amping it to toasted red bean buns for example) and the princess' dilemma of giving in or not mixed with Excalibur's past knowledge of the princess (usually falls under she's supposed to be too dignified to fall for such commoner things). Some times the ending panel of the chapters are what make it all worthwhile (like learning one of the characters is just a doting parent). Most of the chapters will make you realize the princess' life prior to being captured was total shit and the demons treat her better than the humans.

The art is pretty simple, I mean most the comic takes place in the prison cell of the princess and Excalibur. Where it really shines is the varies demon designs and the roller coaster of expressions of the princess both when she tries to resist and gives in to the torture. Some times it veers into pervy expressions you'd find in less savory series which I can kind do without but I get what that author was going for given the context.

Between the comical methods of interrogation, the expressions of the princess trying to resist then giving in to the "torture", and commentary of her sword Excalibur, it's a very entertaining and often wholesome new series I will enjoy reading and highly recommend.

Kimetsu no Yaiba Volume 16

I really enjoyed this training arc. I laughed out loud a couple of times, it's got lots of funny moments.

Shit gets real in the second half of the volume with Kibutsuji showing up and fights with the upper moons starting though. Really impatient to see what's next.

Otherwise, I was curious so I checked how far ahead the jump chapters were compared to the volume releases. I thought they'd be one volume ahead at most, but turns out they're more than 2 volumes ahead? That's a pretty big gap – but maybe that's normal for series running in the WSJ. Jigokuraku (a Jump+ series) in comparison is less than 1 volume ahead.

Still need to read Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 6 and Dr Stone Volume 11. Quite a few series I'm following had releases today.

I was gonna wait for a possible box set from Viz next year, but I may have to jump on this. All 19 volumes for $103 (saving $87).

Nice, interested in a few of these.

So I guess viz can still get rights to the manga plus titles they don't do (Blue Flag). Wonder if they will do a new translation themselves or just touch up the existing one/do the volume extras.

Nah, Chapter 100 had maybe the best moment in the series. I think in manga form the politics on titan stuff excels, while the action scenes are vastly improved in the anime.
Nah, I feel like it did the thing Claymore avoided and showed why Claymore never did it: it's just not interesting at all. The AoT politics stuff was never really that interesting, the mystery behind it all was interesting. If they went full on Game of Thrones it could have worked, but instead it's at "Eren is looking to commit genocide because he sees no other way to stop the people he's looking to kill from being discriminated against (or is he?)" and that's just boring. Either it's a very obvious twist about to happen or it's an incredibly problematic ending. The big issue is Eren has always been the worst character in his own series and now we're focusing exclusively on him instead of interesting characters like Historia. All the interesting characters have just been sidelined at this point.

You said interesting characters and Historia in the same sentence. Historia was only interesting for 5 seconds when her father was around, then she went back to being completely useless as always.

And I've not read claymore to compare, but I can say that Eren pre timeskip was the worst character easily, since then I've greatly enjoyed his character. His dynamic with Zeke and how it strains his relationship with everyone else has been gripping.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this

Black Clover

What a terrible fight. And arc.

I felt like the series managed to ascend from guilty pleasure to decent for a short while when it came to the revival of the elves and it got the chance to shoot all the chekhov guns it, let's give it full credit here, was deftly preparing from the very beginning but since then it's been a slog of mostly uninteresting battles, asspulls and a non descript villain. I'm actually somewhat interested in what BC does with itself now cause it feels like it spend 95% of its buildup, foreshadowing, secrets for this arc and I dunno what else is there to be had. The other kingdoms, Asta's demon and ?
