Updates

Head Start Patch Notes - September 28th, 2018

General Changes
The Head Start update will come with a massive number of changes, improvements, and lessons we learned from Closed Beta 1 and 2. Check out all the changes below!

Head Start between Oct. 1 to Oct. 10 (Official Launch) will only be open to players who have purchased or received a Founder's Pack.
  • All items for the Founder's Pack will be distributed.
  • The Founder's Pack items will be distributed to the first character logged into each region.
  • Merets will only be distributed to one region and aren't transferable. A pop-up will appear when you first log in and ask if you would like to accept these Merets in this region. If you click Yes, you will receive the Merets in this region. If you click No, please relog into the region of your choice and accept the Merets. The Meret window will continue to appear each time you log in until the Merets are redeemed.
  • For the Daily Wonders item in the Legendary Package, you will have until Dec. 31, 2018 to use the item and until Jan. 31, 2019 to claim all items before it becomes inactive.
  • The mail containing your Founder's Pack bundle will expire in 99,999 days, instead of 30 days.
General Updates
  • Language support for Brazilian Portuguese has now been added.
  • Up to 6 character slots are now open per region, and up to 3 additional slots can be purchased per region.
  • Mail containing purchased Blue Merets will now expire in 99,999 days, instead of 30 days.

  • PvP Arena has been disabled.
    • Please note that we are investigating ways to improve this part of the game from feedback we've received during Closed Beta, and it will be closed until further changes have been made. Producer Blog
Producer Blog - Core Changes (September 27,2018)
Dear Maplers,

I can't believe Head Start is kicking off a few days from now. For the team here at Nexon, it has been a long journey preparing the game from making our official announcement at MapleStory Fest in April!

We are very excited about how we can improve the global version of MapleStory 2 based upon player feedback and the data we have collected through two closed beta tests. I would like to say THANK YOU to everyone who gave us great feedback throughout our journey towards Official Launch.

Today, before we leap into our Head Start on October 1st, I would like to share some of the key changes we are putting into the Head Start build. This doesn't include all of the detailed information about Head Start, as this blog is more focused on highlighting some of the larger changes players are curious about. We will have more detailed patch notes coming out with Head Start, so please make sure to review those notes in the future as well!

List of Key Changes:
  • Level/Character Progression Changes
  • Safe Revival Adjustments
  • Dungeon Difficulty, EXP and Meso Adjustments
  • Housing Improvements
  • Other Changes

Level/Character Progression Changes
Based on player feedback, we came to the conclusion that the most desired change for the character progression is 1) providing different ways to level up your characters, and 2) increasing the efficiency of monster hunting in general.

After thorough review, we decided to make the following changes towards our Epic Quest progression and the EXP rate coming from regular monsters.

Epic Quest Progression
All the SP and AP coming from Epic Quest rewards will be removed and will instead be granted via Trophies. This will ensure that players can level up in different ways, meaning that if players don't participate in the Epic Quest line they will still have the same amount of SP and AP supplied to their characters.

We are also reverting the amount of EXP gained from the Epic Quests back to their original amounts from Closed Beta 1, meaning that after each Epic Quest, players will once again receive enough EXP to meet the level requirements for the next Epic Quest. We have seen players become frustrated when they need to level up through other means to do the next Epic Quest, and we want to make the experience seamless.

EXP from Monster Hunting
We are adjusting the amount of EXP coming from monsters. Monsters at a certain level range will get up to a 55% boost in their EXP rate, which will reduce the hunting time to level up by around 30%.

But on the contrary, to help prevent bot and macro issues, we are adjusting the meso drop rate from field monsters by around 40% as well (this varies for different levels of monsters). This is similar to the Chinese version of MapleStory 2.

EXP from Other Activities
We are also adjusting the EXP from auto-fishing and other lifestyle skills to balance the level-up speed with monster hunting.

Revival Adjustments
Based on your feedback, as we have announced, we are removing Meret revival. But as some of the hardcore playerbase has addressed, if it becomes necessary for certain player groups, we do have the possibility to bring it back. But again, we want to reassure you that we will only review bringing it back if it makes for a better experience for all of our players.

Also, to ensure players still do have enough ways to complete Hard Adventure Dungeons we are making the following adjustments:

  • Addition of Meso Instant Revival
  • Extending Number of Safe Revivals from Three to Five
For the revival costs, it will be a flat fee based on your level, and won't go higher incrementally.

Dungeon Difficulty, EXP, Meso Adjustments
We have thoroughly reviewed the feedback received regarding the dungeons and are making a few important adjustments.

Based on the data, we are adjusting the difficulty level of dungeons under level 20, to ensure new players go through a more balanced experience. Boss Monsters will get nerfed to ensure players don't experience Dark Souls-level difficulty while you're still learning the game.
We are making changes to the EXP received from the dungeons. After thirty dungeon runs for the week, players were getting much less EXP when doing dungeon runs. We are adjusting this rate to provide the same amount of EXP from the dungeon after thirty dungeon runs.
Also, we are increasing the amount of mesos received from the normal adventure dungeon. It was 4,000 mesos during Closed Beta, but beginning with Head Start, players will get 10,000 mesos. Then, after thirty dungeons for the week, players will be only getting 10% of the regular meso reward. We reviewed increasing mesos from the dungeons but based on the dev team's experience in other regions, we were afraid bots would be mainly targeting dungeons to farm mesos, and decided to keep the meso reward lower.
Housing Improvements
We are making Housing contents free, or at least cheaper!

We know lots of players had concerns with how much it would require to build a fabulous looking house, and we are glad to confirm that lots of things will be free and it won't require lots of money to own a better-looking house.

  • Extending the size of the house will be FREE
  • Most of the basic blocks will be FREE
  • Price of paid blocks will be much cheaper compared to the Korean and Chinese versions of MapleStory 2
  • Interior level requirements for certain blocks are removed
We really want players to be creative with housing, and hope to see lots of great creations!

Other Adjustments
We have other adjustments, including the following:

  • We are adjusting how our voice over (VO) works. We specifically worked on new VO lines for both female and male priest classes after thorough review, and the cadence of class-specific VOs will be adjusted
  • WASD + Mouse control is getting another round of improvements. Based on the feedback from our surveys, the team worked on making changes to make the control more convenient and intuitive
  • We are adding Brazilian Portuguese in-game strings for Brazilian players
  • To avoid any concern related to Enchanting being part of the pay-to-win monetization mechanic, we are removing Spirit Spellstones and Spirit Guardstones from the game
  • Improved the overall readability of chats in-game.
  • We understand the changes we have finalized for Head Start might not satisfy everyone. BUT, we consider Head Start to be the starting point of a long journey with the game, and hope to communicate more with the players and constantly improve the game.
Everyone here at Nexon, including the Development Studio, is very focused on making sure we have a very stable game service. Recent high-ping issues have been the team's top priority and we have conducted several tests and will be making more improvements for the Head Start. Also, we will step up our communication to provide better transparency.

It has been a long journey to the Official Launch, and now we are about to start a brand-new journey with the Head Start. We are very excited because this time, we are on this journey with all of you, fellow Maplers. Please continue to share your experiences with us on how we can do better, and how we can have more fun together.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in game soon!

Sincerely,
Jungsoo Lee

Purchased the Explorers Pack for $25. Looks like I will be playing tomorrow.

Updated the game and reserved the name Arcadio on NAE and NAW(just in case).

So relieved that Mushking Royale is ending today. It's mind-boggling how they added a ranked mode with significant cash-value prizes and have absolutely zero moderation. Almost everybody in the top 10 (winning $100 founders pack) is a cheater.
Can't wait to build my house and start..the actual game! I completely ignored life skills during the beta, I hope crafting and farming and such is rewarding.

I remember playing the Korean version briefly with a good friend quite a few years ago. I'll check this version out so I can actually understand what's going on!

Can't wait to start playing tomorrow...even though my next two weeks of school is quite heavy due to exams and projects.

I originally bought the base founders pack and just upgrade to the $100 tier. I didn't play much of Mushking Royale, as I wasn't too interested in it.

If you guys are still interested, I will make a dedicated discord group for us, and I'll make a guild. Only thing is that I'll mainly be playing on the NA West server.

This is still f2p, right? If so I might check it out, played a good bit of MS1 about 10 years ago. Shame that there seem to not be any Japan servers tho?

Looks great! I played the original Maple Story quite a bit back in the day. This is a complete surprise to me, heard about MapleStory 2 but didn't think it'd happen. I'll have to wait until the 10th though. Moving expenses are killing me right now.

Any advice for easiest class to roll at the start?

That founders getting an early start kinda soured me on getting back into it. They basically get a monopoly on all the best houses in the game as well as advertisement slots.

Considering that a few guilds seemingly took over all the Tria plots during both betas, getting the best spots even as a founder looks unfeasible. And there will always be a random plot available. Either way it's completely pointless other than as an entrance. You'd probably need to be playing hardcore to want either and hardcore without founders is a bit odd.

Been playing for a couple of hours now. Kinda strange how the game really wants you to go through the story lol. Doing the story quests gives you enough exp to level up and keep going so you never need to grind mobs. I hear that the story will get you to level 50.

It feels like there's not much incentive to explore until after you finish the story. So you're on maps for a few minutes only.

Anyway, it's still cute and fun so far. If anyone is playing on NA East, add me. My character is Arcadio.

I bought this a day or so ago and didn't expect to love it so much. Probably going to make it my side mmo aside from FFXIV.

Only thing that has me weary is I know in the past Nexon has been greedy with cash shops but it seems like they've changed and taken a different approach by listening to the community? Which is fantastic as nothing kills a game more than pay to win. So I hope they stay on track with that.

I'm a 38 Berserker so far just trying to get to 50 before launch and the cap raise. Loving my time with it so far. Also love that I can afk fish while going to work!

I made it to level 50 and finished the story on the 4th day. Just been running dungeons since then. Will work on an alt.

Huh this is a thread I didn't expect to see. Maplestory was a middle school staple for me, maybe I'll check this out

I only got to play a little bit this morning but it looks promising, weird performance glitches and teleporting NPCs in cutscenes aside.

Finished up my weekly dungeons and on the last dungeon, I got the epic drop I needed to hit 2.1k GS. But since I'm now capped for the week, I can't do the hard dungeons until reset lol. At least I don't have to worry about that anymore.

How pay to win is it? I might want to try it out but if there's no point unless I dump a lot of cash in then I'll probably pass. I definitely like the aesthetic though.

Finished the new story missions. Unfortunately it only takes you from level 50 to 51 so I'll have to find another way to get to 60.

The P2W stuff from the other versions of the game were removed for the global version.

If you haven't found out yet, channel hopping chain killing world bosses yields insane exp. I did maybe 20 minutes worth went from 51 to almost 54.

I just started last night. Chose a Mage but am so interested in the other classes. For once, I am going to try and stick with the same character for a long time, and see how it ends up.

What did everyone else start with? How are you liking them so far?

I hope this game stays as relevant as MS1. So far, I am loving pretty much every aspect of this game, but I am only lvl 14. How long does it take to get to 50? And how far behind is Global from the Korean servers?

Randomly saw a popup in the corner of my screen saying its game time. Chose to do a quiz and I was thrown in a room with a big X and O with ~50 other people. It was so cool, and I hope that keeps bringing people back again and again

I started Thief and feel like they don't do enough damage for how low their health pool is.

I'm a slow leveler. I was in the headstart and am still only 41; I went with Berserker since I never played the first Maplestory and it seemed like a noob friendly class. Next up, I want to try gunner.

I always start Mages, even though they tend to be the most expensive to get up and running. So far, the fact that the mana regenerates extremely fast makes them awesome. Did you play the first MS? If not, how are you enjoying the game?

Side question, is there a way to expand your mana pool?

I'm a Maplestory noob. Don't know if there is a way to expand manapool. Man, now I'm thinking going Mage.

Man I just want my epic drops from normal dungeons already, was really hoping to not have to buy epic earrings but think that may be my only option if i don't want to rely on RNG.

Alright I'm trying this. Can't quite figure out much yet, fencer skills seem all the same, I'm just rushing from one place to the next, i somehow got the house tutorial stuck and I'm all around very confused. Love the look tho.

Anyone played it? Is it fun? The Op doesn't even tell me what style of combat system it uses. Some regular MMo thing with cooldowns? Something more like Diablo? Something more like an action game with cooldowns for skills on top? Turn based? What is it like?

Wondering this as well. My friend wants me to play, but I dunno if I can fuck with it.
