Well, they're clearly going forward with this in the worst way possible.
So this guy is just going to be casually unaware of a meteor strike that occurred on US soil? And be completely incapable of realizing he's two years in the past for days at a time?
Only someone who isn't Japanese would ever possibly think that. Lol.On the contrary, this is so intrinsically Japanese I don't think it could work in any other culture.
Luckily they're not remaking Wolf Children, just some popular Shinkai film.
Yeah, this is actually distressing me
Doesn't everything online distress you? You should chill more. They're just games and cartoons yo.
Mhm. It's such a core part of the aesthetic.Stripping the story of all the Japanese elements will ruin it.
On the contrary, this is so intrinsically Japanese I don't think it could work in any other culture.
Now look at everything else surrounding thatThe base story is guy and girl change lives now and then. At it's core, that's a pretty basic concept.
You've got a girl who is embarrassed/ridiculed by continuing the traditions passed down her family with the story leading up to a cultural festival. How can that not be transported to other cultures.Stripping the story of all the Japanese elements will ruin it.
Then why bother remaking it with the same title instead of calling it freaky friday 2The base story is guy and girl change lives now and then. At it's core, that's a pretty basic concept.

Does it matter? Infernal Affairs is a uniquely Hong Kong story, and a strong aesthetic that cannot be replicated in another setting. But at the core it's about trust, betrayal, loyalty, and one's sense of justice. It was remade into an American film set in America without any Chinese flavor or element.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. I think the base story can be adapted into other cultures very well.
The film doesn't currently have a name. It will likely not be called "Your Name" but something else. Then why bother remaking it with the same title instead of calling it freaky friday 2
You said it won't be a Japanese thing in response to someone who said the guy should be Japanese-American.
It seems like you misinterpreted what Yams said more than the other way around lol.
Yeah? My question was why would the ethnicity be brought forward to this movie that set in a different context? Why not chinese-american, why not xx-american? IMO if it's just an adaptation it should cut loose these strings from the source.
They already have a Native American girl apparently. You want two minorities as leads??? But then how will people relate
I know, it would be nice though. It's just not a great look if they go with a white dude. There's a lot of baggage there and I doubt the movie will talk about that aspect with any seriousness. They already have a Native American girl apparently. You want two minorities as leads??? But then how will people relate
Native American is the only way they could work in the ceremonial stuff in this setting.
I guess. Not opposed to it but you know viewers are going to compare it YN even more stringently if that happens.
Kinda boring they went with the most obvious solution anyway. I don't think mystical elements are really needed at allNative American is the only way they could work in the ceremonial stuff in this setting.
no it is not. It's set in Japan, that's about it.On the contrary, this is so intrinsically Japanese I don't think it could work in any other culture.
What? This movie won't be a Japanese thing, it's for the western market.
What? How. This reads like some power fantasy.
Asteroid has the flexibility of not depending on geography so it gives them freedom in terms of setting and what specific Native American culture to use, that said, a less extraordinary event could also help the story if set in America.
I would actually be intrigued to see what they come up with if they tried to rewrite the whole thing to the point that they make it a mixed period piece like True detective with an actual natural tragedy. But I don't think there are any really big disaster of the scale in the US recent history.
Honestly, yeah. It's a major problem I have with the original - and I hoped a remake would take additional steps to work through it.I mean, how does any of that really make sense in the original either? I don't see how the same explanation wouldn't work.
Damn yeah, that's actually elegant in its simplicity.
Don't count on itHope they won't fuck up the casting for Native American at least.
Oh man if this happens, I won't be able to unsee the messed up shit from that movie
Ehhhh, the original hardly has anything that can't be replicated with live action. I think people are getting dangerously fixated to the thinking that original Japanese work is sacredWestern live-action adaptations of anime are a bad idea, full stop.
Your Name is far from perfect tbh.
There are ANIME parts of Your Name that would thankfully be gone in a US remake
Hope they won't fuck up the casting for Native American at least.
Don't think I'd support takingmainly because that thing provided a lot of the visual charmthe comet/meteor out of the equation
That's wasted potential if you discard that for a live action adaptation
