Super-mario-maker-2-illustrazione-vuota.jpg

New version of the old art. 11000x7217 pixels of desolation. Could make for a decent wallpaper.

Great timing with Mario Maker this week :)

I can't wait for the Odyssey art book, the snippets I've seen look amazing and I've wanted more Mario art books for a while.

I will share some big boy toys in this thread. Love collecting these World of Nintendo figures and the diorama playsets are awesome.

God as a huge Mario junkie, I need to post MUCH more here!

Anyways, are there any challenge runs you dudes particularly like in Mario games?

I often like the no coin runs, I found this especially enjoyable (and difficult!) in New Super Luigi U and Super Mario Odyssey.

I'm currently doing an All Star Coin Run on New Super Luigi U on Switch. It's tough but good fun. But I may not finish that as SMM2 comes out on Friday.

Dr. Mario World looks nice and all, but would anyone really trust Bowser as a medical professional?

Never bought, or really been interested in buying art books before, but I am drawn towards that Odyssey book.

The Super Mario World romhack relay race going on right now at SGDQ 2019 is amazing. So much better organized than the official Mario Maker 2 Invitational.

Invictus and Grand Poo World 2 coming up in the next couple of hours.

For years I've been meaning to try a no coin or no touching enemies run in 3DW, but alas haven't got around to it yet. Tried to go back to 3DW to try Champion's Road again and found I was now terrible at it. I probably should play some other levels to get reacclimated to the controls...I kept thinking I should be able to spin attack or Cappy punch.

Ninjadom, as a fellow fan of collecting things in Mario games, I implore you to not miss out on Yoshi's Crafted World of you haven't already played it. The collectathon aspect of that game was super satisfying and the levels are endlessly imaginative.

I don't have Yoshi's Crafted World. I played the demo and it was good. I also watched reviews and everything seemed fine with the game. I just never got round to buying it. Maybe because I was still heavily into NSMBUDX when it came out.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll try and get the game now.

Hope you dig it. There are some unique level setpieces and settings compared to most other 2D platformers. Going for 100% in a level definitely offers a challenge. If I'm remembering correctly you had a Wii U - this is a direct sequel to Woolly World so if you enjoyed that one you'll surely enjoy this one, too, and if you didn't play that one and end up enjoying YCW, definitely check out YWW in the future also. Despite being a direct sequel there are so many new touches and changes in YCW that it feels like.much more than a mere sequel.

Nice time for this thread to receive a spotlight! I just beat NSMBU Deluxe not half an hour ago. Splendid game! I'm gonna replay it sometime with my roommates taking up the mantle too.

Got loads of Star Coins to collect!

For those who were born in the 80's, do you remember how out of this world it felt when you shot Mario out of the cannon for the very first time in Super Mario 64? I won't forget that day. It was the fucking future right there mate! We grew up playing his games on the NES, then SNES and nothing prepared us for the transition to 3D. It was magic.

The weird thing to me about Super Mario 64 is, like

I've grown up in an era where I've never not know video games. So I don't really have too many formative memories of what it was like holding a controller for the first time, or learning to control a character

But I was 14 or 15 when Super Mario 64 came out, and just the whole thing where, like, I was coming to grips with moving in 3D for the first time. I feel like that's something that's taken for granted nowadays. Where even just trying to clear Bob-omb Battlefield felt like this huge challenge just to get Mario up to the top of the mountain. And being able to remember what that felt like, versus how I play Super Mario 64 today.

And not necessarily because I was worse at games then, but simply because playing a game in 3D in 1996 felt so alien, but it was also this tremendous pioneer. Being there as the paradigm shifted. It was unlike anything else.

In the U.K. this was the first we ever saw of Super Mario 64. And it blew our minds completely. Remember that this is from a TV show. There was no widespread internet back then.

Being born in 1993 I was too young to understand or appreciate the difference, but in retrospect, it's incredible how they nailed the controls and the level design on their first try. It was so impactful especially because it was a great 3D game.

While playing Mario maker 2 and watching a 3d Mario run around and celebrate after getting the flag, I realized how far I was from the first time I played super Mario Bros on the NES. Wish I could go back in time and show myself the switch, I probably wouldn't be able to process it but am pretty sure I'd still hate the "New super Mario Bros wii" aesthetics.

I'm not from the UK but was in the UK when I first saw Mario 64 in magazines in 1996.
Still a defining moment from my gaming youth.

I'm playing through Super Mario 3D World now and having a pretty good time. I wrapped up World 4 last night. Easily my favorite one so far.

How many worlds total are there?

I dont remember the total but i want to say it was like 8 plus two more bonus worlds. On this subject, playing mario maker 2 reminded me how much i adore 3d world, its a strong contender for my favorite mario game. Here's hoping we can play it on switch soon! I almost thought about buying a used wii u just to play it again

8+2 sounds great! Thanks. And yeah, based on what I've played thus far I'd totally grab a Switch port.

There are like 3. One has all new level with a space theme and the other 2 are a series of remixed, and notably harder, levels based on those earlier in the game.

There is still only one level that uses the desert theme, Conkdor Canyon

The antagonist in the G&W version of Balloon Fight (the amphibian man) is called 'ORIAM REPUS' which is Super Mario spelt backwards.

Japanese watch company, Alba, releases new Super Mario watch collection. Prices start at 10,000 yen and go up to 20,000 yen. So about $94 to $200

Those watches are sick! Love 'em. Would like to see the Famicom in another color besides gold, but I get the idea.
