With online co op being bigger than ever, Avengers and Xmen being huge and the developer being good I think this will sell very well. I hope its actually an early 2019 game and it makes sense because we only know about Mario for early next year.

Yeah especially with how good the gameplay footage looks(say what you will about the art style but from a graphical standpoint the game looks really good and polished) for a first reveal to be made entirely of in game footage means it’s in the final stages of development

This game series (X-Men Legends, X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2) is literally my all-time fav, so I am beyond overjoyed to see it coming back, even if I doubt it will live-up to XML2 and MUA1. Regardless, this is my second most anticipated game of 2019 after DMC5.

When it comes to roster speculation, I doubt the final count will be higher than forty-eight, as the press release says that you can choose between "dozens" of characters, and I think if it were fifty, they would have said something like "choose between over 50 heroes" or something.

I’d say 36 to 48 myself. We are at 17 with vision who was just glimpses possibly less as it seems we have duo characters that take up a single slot. We have Avengers, Gotg, X-men and inhuman repped so far. Of the classic teams Marvel Knights is extremely likely (possibly rebranded defenders), although Fantastic Four are in the air but quite possible. Of newer teams to pop up in the comics and cartoons I’d say New Warriors, New Champions and Thinderbolts are all possible. Avengers will be heavily repped as always... xforce are a maybe. I’ve done plenty of speculation on specific characters so at this point I’ll wait for the next info drop to say any more but I’d bet on a blow out in a January direct

Edit heck even the official site teases it
Assemble your ultimate team of Marvel Super Heroes from a huge cast including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the X-Men, and more

Man, thinking about this, I hope they also take influence from more of the recent stuff beyond lockjaw, Guardians being big now, and stuff like inhumans. I really want them to include the crazier stuff for the different skins, like offering Cosmic Ghost Rider or Venompool.

So with Silver Surfer coming out for Contest of Champions, is the Fantastic Four gaming ban finally over? Maybe they can be in this game, at least as DLC?
What do you mean we’re already only one character short of the New Fantastic Four(Wolverine, Hulk, Spidey and Ghost Rider), and no way does Ghost Rider miss the Game(question is what costumes we’ll get).
All kidding aside(as I love and plan to do that team up) in this kinda of game it’s easy to add characters up till the end even if some wind up being hidden unlockables. I’d say odds are good Silver Surfer(pops in cosmic part at any point), Human Torch(hanging out with another hero or heck with the inhumans) and Thing(hanging around). Doom is the likeliest causality

We already know the X-Men are in the game. I don't see why the Fantastic Four wouldn't be.
For me, I feel like they would've been shown or at least mentioned alongside the other teams you can play as if they were going to be in. It would've said something like:

"Assemble your ultimate team of Marvel Super Heroes from a huge cast including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and more!" if they were 100% in.

You may have a point. I still think the FF may play into this game. We'll presumably have another trailer in a Direct before the game launches. Maybe the FF are being saved for later.

I mean the site does say
‘Assemble your ultimate team of Marvel Super Heroes from a huge cast including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the X-Men, and more’

Which obviously teases as a bunch more teams and characters, and honestly if I’ was marketing this I’d spread it out and do a couple new teams and a bunch of characters in each new reveal especially with a marketing tool like directs

The X-Men have been in mobile games since last year but the Fantastic Four haven't been anywhere since, what, 2014? Their gaming rights or whatever are separate and it seems like Marvel was playing keep away with them still for.. some reason. Hopefully Silver Surfer means that's no longer the case.

I love how the trailer starts like it's a GotG game; and you are like "hey! a GotG game, awesome!"

Then it goes full avengers, and you think "dude! Nintendo got the Avengers!"

And finally showing Wolverine "*screams*".

How long has it been since a Marvel game with Avengers and the Xmen together? On consoles?
The trailer overall does a hell of a job letting you know that everybody is here (theortically). starts off with GoTG, then showing thanos lackeys which is a hint but not a full confirmation considering the guardians tends to deal with them even without thanos or other avengers. Then they go straight to Tony stark in his suit that immediately goes into avengers confirmation, after that, just for good measure and to put to bed any worries spiderman is separately confirmed aswell as his villains, and then going straight to wolverine to confirm that yes xmen/mutants will be in this game, they will be playable and you will love it. And the. To top if all off while showing multiple high profile marvel villains, ends it on thanos for the full effect, trailer is just really well made with build up

On console? Probably Lego Marvel Super Heroes in 2013. Mobile games lasted a bit longer but then the X-Men stopped being released or games came out that didn't have them or the F4 at all.

I don't think they've announced all the characters in this game yet. They haven't announced Black Panther yet, and I'm sure all of us think he's in the game.

I dont remember loot in the older MUA games. The hook was unlocking new characters and maybe you could level up your characters (my memory is spotty we're talking xbox360 era)

I dont want random loot
Characters had outfits they could equip and accessories they could find and equip (increasing defence or hit points etc), but they also levelled up. The main mechanic for character development was assigning points you gained on level up to which of their abilities you wanted to make stronger.

Not to mention the teases like the hand ninjas pointing to the marvel knights and Ultimo teasing Mandarin(well or another mystic villain but most likely Mandarin)

Got bored so tried to find the equivalent trailer for the original game. Not that it’s quite the same since you tended to have a teaser and a release trailer rather than the Nintendo cycle of reveal, direct elaborations and a launch trailer but I think this is close

And as much as I enjoyed the original this is looking better... they made art decisions that didn’t age well

that dark color palette + bloom doesn't age well

Yeah, the game's still super fun (if difficult to play on Steam..) but the first one in particular didn't age terribly well. Like hey, remember when Ultimate was the hot thing and was used as the default for literally everything?

... sounds like something happening now, actually.
