I mean, other people can tell others about their own views, why not me?

You can tell your view. You did... you made it clear that you support gun rights. And then I asked you why you felt the need to declare that in a topic about a shooting.
You see, you have the right to state your opinion, I have the right to question that opionion.

Alright then, fair enough.

I will take my leave then. I have nothing else to contribute anyways.

I was there. Saw the shooter. Saw a shot person .

A shotgun going off indoors makes more than a noise. It was so loud I thought something in the utility room had exploded.

I mananged enough guts to look out my office door twice . The first time I saw a man march into the capital gazette with a black shotgun braced against his chest. Called the cops right away. The second time i saw woman on the ground. A minute later two policemen with rifles banged on my door and told me to stay put . 10 minutes later a different set of cops escorted me and a coworker outside. The pool of blood outside the capital gazette office was the size of a bathroom rug.

Fuck guns.

Just catching up on this...it's been said already, but keeping your head and calling the police was heroic.
Glad you are okay - make sure to take care of yourself in the aftermath.

And yeah, fuck guns.

Let the hot takes come in.

I support gun rights, and i think this is awful, what happened. Having said that, we do not know much about the guy yet. (unless things have changed as of late)

I feel sorry for the member here that was there, that saw the body of one of his coworkers as well. No one should go through that.

Wow dude. So you decided it was a good idea to waltz in a thread where our very own Doomguy Fieri VERY nearly lost his life and saw his DEAD coworkers, and mention your support of "gun rights". You don't think there is anything wrong with that?

I regret the hot take bit, but everything else is fine. I do not get this open hostility. I sympathize with the victims, Living or dead.

I support gun rights, (this is how you started, and depending on those rights we may agree) and i think this is awful, what happened. Having said that, we do not know much about the guy yet. [pleas copped, for NO reason] (unless things have changed as of late)

The hostility comes from:

1) fuck anyone's precious gun rights. People are dead because of the lack of common sense gun laws

2) a poster in this very thread is a victim, and you go for a hot take. Gun advocates (and I own 3) need to get a grip.

Just to be clear, not my co-workers. I'm in insurance sales. My office is across the hall from the Capital. You could stand in the hallway and touch both doors if you really stretched.

The people there weren't my friends, but we'd like smile at each other in the lobby. I saw Rebecca Smith every day, because she worked the front desk.

Now she's fucking meat. She died crawling over broken glass, probably too incoherent to be terrified. Fuck the second amendment and fuck guns. Melt them into slag.

And for the record, I work in a newsroom, for a newspaper, and I'm dreading going to work today. First time I've felt that way in 15+ years in the profession.

I support common sense gun laws though. Then again, i am not in any form of power, so i cannot just change it just like *that*.

I knew ERA was progressive, but i didn't expect the mere mention of saying i support gun rights to be a taboo thing around here. Especially if i wasn't so crass about it.

I don't/didn't mean to sound insensitive. Truly.

The GoP is going to be very profitable for gun manufacturers and armed security personnel businesses moving forward.

Schools, news/media companies, concert venues... all are going to wind up needing armed security the way this shit is going.

Not that it's even a guarantee of any safety. But that's how it'll be sold to everyone. I expect collusion between insurance companies too, to lower premiums based on level of armed security.

It's all fucked.

So just to be clear you thought would be a good idea to come into a mass shootimg thread and declare you support for guns and decided to refer to people lamenting guns as "hot takes"?

Fucking really?

Maybe the latter, but they are absolutely killing gun sales overall because there's no longer an "EVIL BLACK MAN IN OFFICE TRYING TO STEAL YER GUNS!"

It's not a taboo subject. It's just puzzling that you think gun rights merit defense right here.

Why do we need more information about the guy yet? We know what we need to know:

Guy kills a bunch of people with a gun.

I feel your post is distasteful at best and spits in the face of everyone mourning this tragedy. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this in any capacity as this. It sucks that some guy that decided to kill journalists especially after Milo encouraged this 48 hours prior...

What can we do to stop this from happening again?

I think your post just could have done without mentioning your support of gun rights. Too soon and wrong thread... especially with emotions running high.

A harrassment/stalking conviction should immediately disqualify you from owning a firearm. I mean Jesus these are the textbook people who should not be allowed to own a firearm.

People acting outraged that this was immediately correlated with Trump boggle my mind. As if his its a stretch to do so given his constant demonization of the media.

I know this is sad to say, but I'm glad this shooting wasn't politically motivated in this turbulent era. It definitely sucks, but I guess it could be so much worse.

The shooting at Pulse was not specifically targeted towards gay individuals but it highlighted the dangers of demonizing them. It still stands that five people who were referred to as "enemies of the people" by their President have now been murdered in an attack by someone who didn't like the job that they did as it pertained to reporting on his stalking a woman. It's a lesson to all of us that hyperbolic language is not encouraging a positive atmosphere in society right now.

At least our lawmakers know the real crime here.

Be mad for a minute and then read the replies. Some clever folks out there.

Is he fucking kidding? Does he even remember what he says from one day to another? Does he not remember literally calling them Enemies of the people just a few days ago? He had to know that this is what would happen.

Of course he knows. He also knows that he can say what he wants with impunity because he'll never face any consequences for what he says and for every shit statement he makes, he gets another secret racist/sexist/islamophobe/gun nut etc. that says "Finally, someone who gets it!"

And people wonder why they stick with him? He speaks to and inspires bigots on the same level that Obama speaks to and inspires decent people.

"Gun rights" is a lie. People who say they support "gun rights" in the United States are actually saying they support uncontrolled gun trafficking. We don't tolerate similar trafficking in narcotics, even alcohol has regulations on distribution. We don't tolerate that on automobiles, they're to be registered, inspected, and insured in most states with police actively enforcing those laws. But for guns we have strawman background checks and waiting periods that are easily circumvented while people who claim they support "gun rights" think that pittance of an effort to prevent the mass distribution of weapons intended to kill is too much.

It is a misnomer used to defend an industry over the lives of the public.

Just a reminder that no other democratic country has this many guns. Those countries are doing perfectly fine... what exactly do gun advocates suggest the rest of us around the globe are missing out on? I've never once in my life wanted to look at, much less hold a gun. Almost everyone I've ever met feels that way too. What's the point of guns? Their only use is to murder people and that is exactly what they are being used for. (Target shooting sports don't count, so skip that please.)

White Americans fucking terrify me. Fuck all this "blame the brown people" rethoric, its white Americans who should have people worried.

I cant blame American minorities resenting white America. Every other day theres something involving one going on a killing spree.
