Don't Xi and Deng have beef?
I know he's dead so I guess I mean had ha
Well there's good people on both sidesHow will the west respond if we get a Tienanmen Square repeat?
Yeah... removing term limits and this little nugget in Wikipedia seem instructiveXi is a egocentric little man who doesn't want to rule under a dead man's shadow.
.A slick tool for teaching "Xi Jinping Thought" has become the most popular smartphone app in China, as the country's ruling Communist Party launched a new campaign that calls on its cadres to immerse themselves in the political doctrine every day. Xuexi Qiangguo, which translates to "Study powerful country", is now the most downloaded item on Apple's domestic App Store, surpassing in demand social media apps such as WeChat and TikTok – known as Weixin and Douyin, respectively, in mainland China

Your post honestly reads like virtue signaling to your chinese overlords.Just so you guys know, a story exactly like this was debunked as fake in the last few days. I'm not saying that this story is also fake, but just that you should be mindful of your sources.
Also, as a person with a huge connection to Hong Kong and a great love for the people who live there, it'd be real nice if this story was false. Real nice.
The economic expansion of China has everything to do with their involvement in global trade following reforms and trade deals in the 90s
Especially how many rural villages are adopting democratic systems to promote self management, doubt being soft on Democracy at the scale of Hong Kong would bode well for the future strength of CCP rule. Also, foreign exchange programs for students will definitely complicate this down the road.
You're forgetting power to evict anyone they want to build their infrastructure. Power to set low environment and pollution standards. And power to prosecute any opposition to said powers.
You're not getting something like the Pearl River delta industrial hub built without breaking some eggs.
Civilization 5, arguably the best civ although I've not got the newest expansion for 6 yet.
That may be true, but how long do you think Xi Jinping will let Hong Kong remain "separate"?
This is a flawed argument that authoritarianism is necessary for pollution is necessary for growth. Saying "a specific event in history that happened would not have happened if history was different" is about as weak a claim as you can make. I don't even understand what you're arguing at this point. You're forgetting power to evict anyone they want to build their infrastructure. Power to set low environment and pollution standards. And power to prosecute any opposition to said powers.
You're not getting something like the Pearl River delta industrial hub built without breaking some eggs.
It won't be literal paradise, so better to just take those police beatings and give up your rights. Right. I'm out.For HK:
In an fully autonomous system they're responsible for their own shortcomings. If you think they'll solve all their problems then I have an island to sell you. Protests, discontent, etc will still happen. Nothing is better than keeping (or lack of) momentum than democracy, so the people will be satisfied with their un-satisfaction.
Semi-autonomous system: Blame mainland for all their problems, regardless of the actual cause.
Mainland system: Loss of personal freedoms and rights. Some fundamental economic and social problems will be solved via democratic centralism. People are unhappy because they can't exercise free speech on the web and they lose access to social media and porn.
You've got this totally backwards. I am very in favor of the protesters. I was there a few months ago and very nearly flew back to protest myself.Your post honestly reads like virtue signaling to your chinese overlords.
"This was discredited. BTW, I definitely have connections, so anyone in the chinese government reading this.... give me points"

This article sucks a lot but it does discuss the fake "Tanks in Shenzhen" story from last week that turned out to be untrue: https://www-m.cnn.com/2019/08/11/asia/hong-kong-fake-news-intl-hnk/index.htmlCan you post a source or message me as to why this is fake so I can amend? I haven't see it debunked yet.
Yeah I'm aware, I just mean that it could have a political impact over time. The CCP does intervene though to suppress unwanted politicians by hiring thugs. This is specifically allowed. Democratic grassroots. Leaders at the top are promoted via meritocracy. Say what you want about Xi, but the dude is anything but in-competent.

I still don't know if this current story is fake, by the way. I'm just pointing out that a story a lot like it came up before and was fake.
This is Chinese state media -
FWIW I think this is more to the Chinese domestic audience, to say - "look, we stand for security, law and order, unlike those Democracy crazy people, they only bring chaos" which Chinese media has been leaning super heavily into.
I kinda doubt that if Beijing decides to roll in with the tanks they're gonna make a video about it beforehand, and generally, if you look at history, you need to look less for tanks and more for signs that they kick out journalists and shut down media access. Thankfully, neither of those things happened so far.
In mainland? They place any disgraced politician under house arrest. Not sure if they ever hired thugs in the mainland for political control purposes.

Yeah, that's about as legit as it gets. This is also a great article with some truly stunning photos - thanks for posting.I have done further research into the matter and have come up with one additional source from the New York Times on the matter. Even pro-communist tabloid Global Times has reported this.
I'm going to give it the seal of approval.

People get beat up at train stations for being suspected of going to "shangfang", petitioning higher level of government for local issues.
As bad as the central government seems, the local government in China is ten times worse. Basically government sanctioned thugs.
Damn that terrifying but I'm surprised nothing happened sooner China doesn't just sorta kinda take control of a territory. I remember being horrified learning HK was returning to China. Growing up I had no ideaMy HK friends are still ready to give their lives. I hope this is all coincidence. Should we blame the UK for handing over the territory to China?
When the tanks come rolling in, there will be bloodshed. Just like Tiananmen. They do realize that they're going to end up not as martyrs, but as prisoner's in re-education camps?
When the tanks come rolling in, there will be bloodshed. Just like Tiananmen.
I'm hoping you are correct. For my friends sake.1. It'll not be tanks, but APCs.
2. The PLA units will be under command of the HK Police.
3. China has handled massive protests after 1989 without bloodshed.
That gap between the two circles is part of Hong Kong. That Pin is just downtown.
Should we blame the UK for handing over the territory to China?
Trump has specifically stated that there's nothing wrong with how they're handling Hong Kong, though. The tariff stuff is totally separate.Hitting them economically is the only real option. The US is already all the way in on that, so it would have to fall on the EU... and I think we all know they won't do shit. Especially with the current shape their economy is in.
Trump has flat out spoken in favor of how China reacted with the Tiananmen Square massacre. He said it was how a strong Government reacts etc.I don't think anyone can really do much aside from banding together to enact sanctions, and Trump deep sixed the chances of that happening a long time ago.
Unless I'm missing sarcasm, this is a bit of a weird take, as the UK had a 100-year lease and weren't allowed to keep the territory after the lease was up.
The amount of digital propaganda that will happen will be immense. The battle for the minds of China and the world may be the first large-scale cyber-war of the 21st century.
The people of China deserve to be represented by a better government than they have. I think many of us do. Westerners need to be prepared to pressure corporations to make what they're about to do painful, because "western democracies" seem ready to shrug and get on with life, unless normal folks make an issue of it.
I know the tariffs are totally separate. I'm saying there isn't much more the US is going to go in economically against them, if they wanted to on this, because of what they're already doing.Trump has specifically stated that there's nothing wrong with how they're handling Hong Kong, though. The tariff stuff is totally separate.
A lease with the Qing Dynasty, not the PRC. The UK was under no obligation to honour treaties written almost two centuries ago with an entirely different regime. HK was a gift from the UK to a regime who never ruled HK without any input from Hongkongers.Unless I'm missing sarcasm, this is a bit of a weird take, as the UK had a 100-year lease and weren't allowed to keep the territory after the lease was up.
How this dumbass didn't get called out more for this post?"peaceful protests"? lol
These past two months have really shown how easily manipulated and brainwashed the west is. So called 'free media', 'freedom of speech' is all just a facade if the media can be this biased and nonobjective, and the audience believes anything that's reported. Not to mention all the fake news that have gone viral and literally debunked hours later with no follow up from the journalists.
inb4 wumao and commie shill.
