This week, PlayStation Korea rolled out price cuts for the PS4 and PS4 Pro for a limited time only. Folks have lined up in droves.

The PlayStation 4 launched in South Korea on December 17, 2013. The PS4 Pro is originally 498,000 South Korean Won ($444), but it's marked down to 348,000 KRW ($311), while the 378,000 KRW ($337) PlayStation 4 is 248,000 KRW ($221). The PSVR is also on sale, priced at 298,000 KRW ($266) from 448,000 KRW ($400).

According to Afternoon News, a limited number of consoles and PSVR headsets is being alotted to PlayStation partner stores and online retailers. Check out photos of people from when the sale began yesterday. There are reports of sellouts, especially for the Pro.

To be really fair, that's a markdown of USD $100 north. Which says enough due to stagnant wages across most of Eastern Asian regions.

Yeah that's nuts. Wonder how it would do outside of Black Friday price cuts on a consistent basis with a price cut.

That's a good deal. I bought my PS4 from a friend for 200 after he upgraded to a pro and it was very worth it at that price.

I need this in the US. I've been waiting for a price cut since 2017 to jump in. I'm DYING for one. I just want a $300 Pro.
I finally got one last January, used for $350. I couldnt wait.

Of course deals for a brand new Pro around the same price came after I got mine.... :-(

I would suspect that the sale is related to Lunar New Year, but that isn't until Feb 5.

I wonder if they are clearing stock for a potential PS4 super slim and PS4 pro slim release.

Do Koreans celebrate Lunar New Year?
Otherwise, seems like a very weird choice of timing for such a big discount.

Lunar New Year sales usually happens from early January and ends before the New Year itself.

Reminds me that Korea actually has a lot of dedicated PlayStation stores... like little computer stores, but they only sell PS4 and games. Hadn't seen anything like that before, not even in Japan.

This somehow reminds me of Brazil getting new games for the Master System when it was dead in Europe. Amazing how some countries are different when it comes to consoles.

Whelp, that probably means they'll hit 100M soon enough. 120M at the time of the PS5 release seems more and more plausible.

lol, seriously, let Sony do official price cuts for the Pro and again for the base PS4 all over the world....its going to be chaos.

It's incredible there hasn't been any price cut since 2016. I get that the console still sells well and there's no reason to lower the price, but I'm sure it would be really beneficial in some markets (like Japan, where 200$ deals don't exist)

Yet if the PS5 IS backwards compatible then it's a better deal overall.
Sony hasn't exactly instilled confidence in their player-base that their PS5 will feature backwards compatibility.
I'm certainly not interested in gambling towards a PS5 launch purchase.

Also, the PS5 still isn't releasing for several years.
That gives consumers plenty of time to catch on the PS4's library while also being able to play all the upcoming cross-gen releases after the PS5 launches.
