https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/bjye8a/reddit-fake-porn-app-daisy-ridley

In December, Motherboard discovered a Redditor named 'deepfakes' quietly enjoying his hobby: Face-swapping celebrity faces onto porn performers' bodies. He made several convincing porn videos of celebrities—including Gal Gadot, Maisie Williams, and Taylor Swift—using a machine learning algorithm, his home computer, publicly available videos, and some spare time.

Most of the posts in r/deepfakes so far are porn, but some users are also creating videos that show the far reaching implication of a technology that allows anyone with sufficient raw footage to work with to convincingly place any face in any video. A user named Z3ROCOOL22 combined footage of Hitler with Argentina's president Mauricio Macri:

"You could argue that what's new is the degree to which it can be done, or the believability, we're getting to the point where we can't distinguish what's real—but then, we didn't before," she said. "What is new is the fact that it's now available to everybody, or will be... It's destabilizing. The whole business of trust and reliability is undermined by this stuff."

This is what's always terrified me about stuff like this. People could be falsely accused of things with sophisticated enough evidence, or someone who is guilty who use technology like this to undermine real evidence.

It's a scary future.

I've been thinking for a long time that there's going to be a huge shitstorm about generated porn using celebrity women's faces / bodies, whether said porn is fully 3d rendered or faces are put on otherwise 'live' scenes.

Then of course pedos will use said tech to create porn of underage actresses and shit will really hit the fan - who would want their daughter to be an actress or famous in an environment where that is possible?

Feels like a Black Mirror episode (maybe it is one, I haven't seen them all).

So cyberpunk is truly here huh. Going to be interesting/scary to see what comes of tech like this the next few years.

More people should have watched that Sean Bean show "Legends" where this is the entire climax of the first season.

We need new moral standards, but humanity isn't ready for it yet. It will come, but only out of trial by fire as crime increases until it brings about a change of mentality.

I saw this last night from r/Cyberpunk.

Some of them are awful, but some of them look very, very real.

The more powerful your GPU, the better the results. Especially with lots of reference images.

I've got a 1080ti.......

Not America
So that SW face swap (discounting the "whether it can stand the scrutiny at higher resolutions") of Princess Leia looks better than the CGI stuff. Wow!

Also, some of his other stuff is disturbingly convincing!

Hmmm that Star Wars thing is a bit misleading! To do this properly you need to find someone who already looks like the "goal" person and the more they look like them, the easier it is. So if you're putting young Carrie Fisher's face over a (very good CG version of) Carrie Fisher, you get a huge amount of leeway!

This legit might be the thing that actually kills the internet as we know it. I don't mean that in a metaphorical way, I mean it in a very real corporatized and controlled way.

The malicious possibilities are endless here.

People have been warning about this since the election; this is the future of fake news. Russiabots posting legitimate-looking videos of [2020 Dem candidate] palling around with Saddam Hussein or something and they're all over viral video and social media sites.

i'm fascinated by this technology, on one end it's amazing, on the other... once this technology advance enough, i hope tech peoplewill still be able to tell if a video evidence is doctored or not for a trial... cause this will certainly bring even more people to be falsely accused of something

Maisie Williams porn? That just seems wrong. Like watching a porn video of your little sister.

it's creepy to put other people face on porn, and plain wrong if they're underage, but... you know she's 20 right? 21 this year

It does look better than the actual version used in the movie though.

I came into this thread not expecting much but based on the posts users above are saying it's disturbing if it looks real. Mainly because it has implications on other things. Imagine someone shopping a face onto security footage to incriminate someone else.

Right now its a mix if you go to the reddit. Some look obviously glitchy and fake, while others honestly look completely real. Right now it seems the more straightforward the face is looking at the camera and not being obscured the realer it is. Lip sync seems to be amazing on some of these.

As with Photoshop I imagine manipulated videos can be pretty easily detected, but as with Photoshop, I doubt people will give a shit either way. Fun times

That's literally what I thought haha. Guess I'm getting older. I didn't watch it but I sure hope they used non-kid pictures of her. That goes into repulsive territory and at that point we have to consider whether it's child pornography. Have fun, court system.

Either way this is morally repugnant. I can't support it. It will be illegal to offer it up for commercial purposes, but that won't stop anything.

The future sucks.

I looked through some of it and it's legitimately impressive. With more work and popularity, this is going to sky rocket. I wonder if it's possible to buy stock?

This doesn't mean people are going to be passing around doctored fakes as true, but rather that no one will assume video and audio evidence is reliable.
