On the bright side the fight to make this public ain't stopping
Sooner or later it will be released because this isn't something the Democrats are going to forget about

Frankly, this just seems like he's playing a game. Something tells me the contents of the report aren't going to change anything, and this move is punting the suspense of the media down field to make sure that the "Trump is Innocent" narrative continues closer to the elections in 2020.

GOP: This report totally clears Trump!

Dems: Ok, so can the people read it?

GOP: ........No.

Yeah, not suspicious at all.

It's kind of crazy that one layer of government can unanimously vote for one thing by the hundreds and then one piece of scum shit can just say no.

You're putting way more thought into this than Trump or McConnell are. They just want to make sure this doesn't see the light of day because they think it might have some damning shit in there.

Man, they really aren't for transparency. Not surprising in the least.
Thing is, there are likely details that warrant investigation in those documents, even if they aren't pertaining to Trump and his family.

Releasing the full report would be good for the country as a whole, which Mitch McConnell has repeatedly demonstrated is anathema.

McConnell just doesn't want it to come out because it's what Democrats want. Literally the only thing that matters to Mitch is making sure Democrats don't get what they want and liberals suffer.

Why is this turtle and other Republicans so against the full report from being released? This isn't what innocent people who have nothing to hide would do.

They know there is shit in there that looks bad (though maybe not technically illegal) and are trying to buy as much time as they can to try to control public opinion.

Keeps it in the news which means their base won't forget, yep

Although let's be honest, they were never going to forget it. The hope was the Dems would and could move on/change the subject

Of course he does. I hope Mueller has got back-ups of the originals, we may need them in the future.
Lol oh man you're serious.

Literally all of this is just politics now, kicking the can down the road until they believe their side can get an edge from it.

so there is something in it they are afraid of getting out?
There are by Barr's own account multiple pieces of evidence relating to obstruction of justice. Barr, who wrote a long audition for the job has a personal legal theory that a president cannot be guilty of obstruction of justice. Which is what Barr himself actually ruled on here. He still hasn't provided his legal reasoning to congress.

People thinking this is all done with now are crazy. We're going to have to drag this out forever or until the GOP runs out of ways to hide it. Barr might be long gone to the cigar club by then. Mitch McConnell too - 32% approval rating in Kentucky.

Well ... these votes kind of don't matter. These are non-binding resolutions. Congress cannot make a law that would make the Mueller Report public, it's not part of Congress' power. These non-binding resolutions are sort of like public decrees that Congress thinks something should be public, but that wouldn't change the actual process of it, or the DoJ-defined special counsel resolution (which could change to make future reports public, which was the case in the 1990s until the Starr Report, which was widely seen as abuse of Ken Starr's position). The House passed their non-binding resolution last week or whenever 420-0, if the Senate passed their's 99-1 tomorrow, it wouldn't make the Mueller Report public any quicker because Congress doesn't control that.

The report wouldn't be made public until it's redacted anyway, which the Dept. of Justice oversees, and Barr/DoJ can redact most of what they want (though there's political risk if they over-redact). THe fastest way to get it into the public's hands will be to subpoena testimony from Barr and Mueller. If the full report is given to Congress or to specific Congress people, a Congressman can read it aloud to congress which enters it into record as well. There's also some political risk with that. The Report will likely be made public at some time, or we'll get lengthy congressional testimony from Mueller or Barr, and if that testimony contradicts each other, DoJ will likely release a redacted version of the report under pressure.

By law, any testimony provided by under grand jury will have to be redacted first, anyway:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_juries_in_the_United_States#Secrecy

*edit*

I don't mean they don't matter in the eye of public opinion or in shifting opinion... But just.. Non-binding resolutions don't have any teeth because Congress doesn't oversee the release of DoJ reports.

Pretty sure many republicans knew he'd do this, so they could feel free to show how they're for truth while McConnell takes the heat. Why vote him out when he gives them what they want without them suffering the public outcry?

Yeah they want the Mueller story to die besides the fact he acquitted Trump.

Mueller has been a neverending story of bad news for Trump ever since it started.

Seems like it's only a matter of time until the full report leaks unless the GOP allows it out. It's funny how something that's completely exonerates Trump is being so heavily guarded.

It doesn't really matter, he's just being a dick, these resolutions by Congress have no real power to make it public if Barr/DoJ tell them to go fuck themselves.

There's a Steamed Hams joke in there, but it would just make me sad after a short laugh.

McConnell has done more damage to this country over the last decade than any single other person.

The investigation/report is a sham and a witch Hunt!

- tries for 2 years to fire and have the person in charge replaced with his lackey

The report exonerates me!

- It says literally the opposite of that. Like, even barr quoted it directly from the full report.

Can we see the report?

Absolutely not!

- democracy crumbles
