Anyways, yeah. Thanks for all the hard work Chris! Are we going to get the Famitsu equivalent at some point? I thought Famitsu typically released a Top 500 or something.

Last Famitsu too 1000 is from 2013 for the simple reason it can't be found at libraries so that it's scanned and is too expensive to be bought.

Momotaro adding another 100k for a 3ds game a year later is truly a great hit. I wonder why Konami and Nintendi wont quickly use this momentum to announce a new Momotaro here. Feels like a big missoportunities

Smash 4 is at 3.345 million units, it'S even higher than I thought.

Smash Ultimate is going to absolutely dominate this december and is going to be the best selling entry in the franchise. I can now see it go to 4.5-5 million units if improvements from the WiiU/3DS generation carry over to the Switch as we've been seeing so far.

I'm now more convinced than ever that Smash is going to give Splatoon 2 a run for its money as the best selling Switch game

I wonder what will we do once I leave Japan. I'm not gonna stay here forever, so we will have to find someone else to get these books one day.

Momotaro proved very frontloaded. Almost all its sales came from first month. For some reason it didn't show legs, first weeks trend showed it could come close to at least 400k.

Even if Smash gets to 4,5-5m, which I doubt it will, beating Splatoon 2 isn't guaranteed.

Go for 4m top and you'll be much closer.

I think it will be close between the two and I don't think Smash is only going to bring in 600k more players compared to Smash 4 in Japan.

Splatoon was hamstrung by the WiiU and so was Smash (despite the 3DS release which helped ofset it but honestly the 3DS port while beeing fantastic really isn't the best way to play the game)

Splatoon will sell much more. It just ressonates more with the JP public and will be an evergreen seller for the whole generation.

Define "much more" because at those levels (say 4.5 millions vs 5 millions for S2) it's hardly "Much more".

Also Smash has always been an evergeen title and it's prety obvious that the Switch audience in Japan actually digs fighting games

I just can't see it. Splatoon IMO looks like it's on track to sell 5+ million. 4 million feels closer to the ceiling for smash.

Pokemon and animal crossing are the only games I can see really challenging.

Yeah. At first, many thought it will hit more than 400k as all those external factors like Arino and how popular Momotaro currently is.

But cant we attribute the reason for its weaker legs is because 3ds is already at its last leg? So it dont have enough legs to carry it more?

I'm accounting for used... that is why I did say near 100k... not over 100k.

Anybody thinking there is over 10% profiles using the same copy in any region is fooling himself.
Anyone thinking that one profile is one copy sold is thoroughly fooling himself

Not that people haven't told you over and over that your metric for sales is inaccurate but hey what can one do?

Awesome, so happy that it's finally here!
Thanks for all the hard work Chris, really appreciate it!

3.2m for DQXI.
216k for GTS.

Great great.

My lastest update show GTS at 321,199 profiles in Japan.

That means it could be near 100k sold this year there.

Are you seriously calling it great? Nothing is saving GTS from being Sony's bomb of the gen mate.

DQXI performance is also definitely not "great", it severely underperformed and if all the Switch will get is a downgraded port of the PS4 version I'm unconvinced it'll do much either.

Amiibos went UP in 2017.
Damn.

Also considering there hasn't been an AC Amiibo Card series 5 for the year, sales for the cards are also really impressive.

Seems logical that the first week sales ratio are lower on a new system, in other words we see higher CY/LTD "multipliers".
Will be interesting to see if this will still be the case for CY 2018.

+ "unprecedented" support for Switch from Konami:

even Koei is higher :)

Konami dont dwelve much in traditional gaming market much anymore. If the action kicking out Kojima is not telling enough. I dont know what will.

At most we will see from Konami is some old revival IP that they will do anytime they want like, 2 years ago Momotaro, Bomberman R and this year Hyper Sports R

[NSW] Super Bomberman R <ACT> (Konami) {2017.03.03} (¥4.980) - 135.496 / NEW (36.623 <66,67%>)
Week 17, 2017 (Apr 24 - Apr 30): [NSW] Super Bomberman R <ACT> (Konami) {2017.03.03} (¥4.980) - 3.338 / 77.015 (-6%)

[NSW] Dragon Quest Heroes I & II for Nintendo Switch <RPG> (Square Enix) {2017.03.03} (¥8.800) - 75.309 / NEW (25.606 <48,56%>)
Week 12, 2017 (Mar 20 - Mar 26): [NSW] Dragon Quest Heroes I & II for Nintendo Switch (Square Enix) {2017.03.03} (¥8.800) - 4.544 / 41.419 (+12%)

[NSW] Puyo Puyo Tetris <PZL> (Sega) {2017.03.03} (¥4.990) - 71.742 / NEW (12.854 <37,43%>)

So Bomberman R sold 58.481, DQHI&II sold 33.890 & Puyo managed 54.419 outside the charts.
This is one of the reasons I think we would see many mid-tier games this year sell >100K, 500 to 1500 sales a month adds up overtime.

it maybe explains why their profits is down YoY in Q1 2018 ;)
What's funny, traditional gaming market currently is growing WW and Konami decided to leave it. Very "smart".

Because they are playing on mobile game market which is growing even faster+ some other health business which also have been bringing tons of dough for Konami.

I think that is actually quite a smart move.

Sure??? Not sure what the problem when mobage hit big, it bring multiple times more dough than what AAA games can dream off?

Easiest example based on Konami property is how Jikkyou power Pro on mobile. It hit top 3 in japan ranking before and now stabilize on top 10. That alone means all the combined jikkyou number in japan for both 3ds and ps4 will not even able to sniff the amount money the mobage bring.

Another example is how FEH had probably bring more money than what FE1-14 ever bring through all this years. That shows how much profitable hitting a mobile hit.

You're probably looking at revenue.

Add spending for constant post-launch support, servers, marketing and you will see real picture. And, btw, speaking about marketing – https://venturebeat.com/2015/04/27/...g-their-games-and-how-you-can-spend-way-less/
And that was 3 years ago. Mobile market is pretty tough right now, if you don't spend a lot of money on promotion - you have a zero chance to survive.

I am not sure what to argue here. Sure they spend marketing money... just like when u make AAA games too. But the difference is. Mobile game like Jikkyou wont cost as much as MGS ever. And it had limitless chance for player to spend their money vs AAA games which got 60 bucks early and the rest is hoping for DLC.

And AAA games like MGS also require post launch support, servers and everything that mobage does.

There is a reason why Cygames become so much gigantic lol. It is because the revenue that mobile games bring especially if it successful, dwarf whatever AAA games can bring.

Cygames partnership with a gigantic club like Juventus shows that they had all the money to burn anytime they want.

2nd hand game sales is big there, as shown in this very thread.
Titles like Nier Automata hit as much as 50% ratio of used game sales to total new+used game sales.
Maybe you should read more before coming to some ridiculous conclusion.

What would you expect MM11 and Ace (if it's revealed to be released this year ofc) numbers to be?

How has Capcoms efforts this year sold on the Switch? Just Mega Man collections, Okami? or did they release something else?
