Wish it didn't have to look like XB2 needs to crawl to 200k. I think a stronger performance like 250-300k would have really helped to convince more ambitious JRPG projects on the Switch for the next 2 years. Then again there's FE and SMTV coming, hopefully those don't disappoint in Japan. The comments that SMTV wants to really prove that it's a console-tier title makes it pretty promising.
It's a mid-tier jRPG franchise that's showed solid growth, I think that's solid enough. It'll land somewhere between 200k and 250k. And I think SMTV and FE are going to do very well.

So much for Sony week.

The fact that PS4 sold 100k units but its software sales are so depressing is really a proof that people are buying hardware in anticipation of software, in this case Monster Hunter World. Also, it's nice to see how the only new games released under holidays are those that have kept selling. But overall PS4 software situation is really bad.

On the other hand, Switch software sales are remarkable. Everything is selling: all genres, all companies and all IPs. Fifa, for example, is a surprising performance given the history of the franchise on Nintendo platforms. Sumikko Gurashi is selling similarly to the first 3DS entry.

Oh boy, didn't think that Switch would be above or get such a big boost in sales in the first week of the year.

Also what is up with PS4 software, that is abysmal and it makes me wonder if game devs are looking at them and looking at Switch sales.

Also I do wonder which game will get to 2 million first, Mario Odyssey or MonHun World

I'll quote myself from the older thread (didn't find the new one at first)

Every single piece of competent switch software has seen insane legs so far. Bomberman gained 30k sales outside the top 30 over the past 6 months.

Judging by the complete lack of price collapses on every single retail switch software, I'm expecting good legs (and many surprises, I'm looking at you Setsuna and Disgaea 5) and a very interesting TOP 1000 when we get it

TOP 1000 is going to be so interesting

MHW isn't getting to 2 millions.

That would be an insane attach rate never seen before on a PlayStation system

I don't think he's saying third party sales are remarkable. Switch sales as a whole are remarkable, and part of that is that third parties are doing good. Third parties are also doing good on PS4, but it's extremely weak on the first-party front. The hardware/software ratio says it all.

Sales, mostly, but I believe that correlates directly with quality. Awakening and Fates managed to be breakout hits for the series because of their fantastic presentation and production values, accessibility, and wide variety of gameplay options. They're high quality games, even if they're not what people who prefer the Tellius games wanted out of the IP.

By the snark, I was mostly referring to the vocal minority among the Fire Emblem fanbase that feels the need to shout down the modern games for being "otaku bait," or worse yet, attribute their large sales spike to waifus. It's reductionist as hell. Echoes is a fine game, but I feel that it's easily the weakest of the 3DS games. But yeah, I agree that it's a defensible opinion that it's the best of the bunch.

Fair enough. It certainly would be nice if some people stopped being overly fixated on that one aspect of Awakening and Fates, yeah.

I wasn't specifically talking about third parties even if your comparison still fits my comment.

NSW - 15
PS4 - 5

Switch software sales are remarkable because numbers are big and games have legs (sometimes, more than usual). Also, they are remarkable because it is a new hardware with a shaping userbase. And it comes from Wii U, which was poison for third parties. Even 3DS first holiday didn't have so many games charting.

Also, please have a look at the difference in third party support between Switch and PS4. Switch received low-tier support and small franchises. For example, XenoVerse 2 is a late porting and, even considering this, it is going to sell on par with the PS4 version. Fifa last appearance on a Nintendo hardware was 5 years ago, with Fifa 13 on Wii U, which sold below 20k. Fifa Switch is going to sell similarly to the PS4 version which is pretty remarkable if you think about it. Sumikko Gurashi is a 150-200k seller on 3DS, but Switch generally lacks a younger audience so its sales are pretty good. Super Bomberman R selling 130k is something pretty astonishing. And this despite the huge sales of Nintendo software---all Nintendo games launched on Switch are charting this week.

On the other hand, you have PS4 with a 6m installed base which under holiday and with a 100k week is not able to bring more than 5 games in the chart---all with pretty low numbers. Taiko used to sell at least 100k but the PS4 version is struggling. Yakuza is falling with respect to the previous remake. The first two games are selling very well on their own but the software situation overall is depressing.

Well. He wrote "Everything is selling: all genres, all companies and all IPs." . The truth is that 3rd party games are not doing that well on the Switch. Some nice legs here and there, but nothing really remarkable. Right now Nintendo is destroying everybody! And this includes all the other companies making games for the Switch.

Yes and he's very much correct. He's talking about percentage growth of all switch titles this week. All of which including third parties had substantial growth within the top 30.

Compared with the first 3DS entry:

12./00. [3DS] Sumikko Gurashi: Omise Hajimerundesu <ETC> (Nippon Columbia) {2015.11.19} (¥5.184) - 12.880 / NEW <20-40%>

16./13. [3DS] Sumikko Gurashi: Omise Hajimerundesu <ETC> (Nippon Columbia) {2015.11.19} (¥5.184) - 12.787 / 39.182 <60-80%> (+70%)
16./17. [3DS] Sumikko Gurashi: Omise Hajimerundesu <ETC> (Nippon Columbia) {2015.11.19} (¥5.184) - 19.764 / 61.717 (+58%)

Of course, the 3DS had yet to enter the holiday season where it sold really well but this bodes well for the franchise on Switch---especially when Switch will attract a younger audience. The first Sumikko Gurashi was released when 3DS was already late in its lifecycle.

This is factually incorrect and the fact that many third party games are also sold-out on Switch is a proof of this.

Given the type of support Switch is receiving, third party games are selling extremely well. Fifa, Dragon Ball, Sumikko Gurashi, Monster Hunter, Bomberman are selling better than expected. Some of them even approaching sales of PS4 versions.

I noticed that with the 2 best sales of Switch games, it exceeded the sales of the Switch console

Splatoon 2: 2.033.614
SMO: 1.534.941
Total: 3.568.555

Switch: 3.566.794

details here:
https://www.resetera.com/posts/3125783/

For all games sold, we don't have complete numbers but we already have , ~ 8m (7.960.554), it seems insane for a 10 months console old.

Yeah, percentages can look amazing, but if we see the actual amount of copies, it's not that amazing.
If i'm not mistaken, just Splatoon 2 sold more than the entire top 50 3rd party games combined!

Which of the 3rd party games you listed should have sold better in your opinion? The sales are relatively low because there are straight up no major 3rd party games on Switch. You can't directly compare new releases like EDF or Yakuza Kiwami 2 with year old ports of One Piece Warriors or Xenoverse 2.

With 3rd party feedback on sales and the current sales numbers, I can safely say that this is wrong.

which released 3rd party game should be doing blockbusters exactly?

Cause I can think of several that are doing better than they should.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, despite being a late port without the DLCs included is outselling the original release on PS4 and might outsell DragonBall FighterZ.

If that's not good, I don't know what is.

Everything should be higher. Just look at KT games, most are under 10K.
Look at 3rd party games sales during nov-dec. The Switch sold more than 1 million during that time.
Even if they are only ports, sales are still very low.

Well specifically for that, that's just Koei Tecmo's titles just failing all around.

I'd say at this point it'd be unfair to compare all of those Third party sales with Splatoon 2.

It's Splatoon.

I am employing the "It's Pokemon" argument.

Let's be honest, guys. 3rd parties can't compete with Nintendo quality...
Most Switch users will be happy enough only having Nintendo games.
I'm sure you have a point to this whole conversation, but for the life of me I don't know what it is.

What I find curious is that in spite of the PS4 audience growing with occasional bursts, you don't really see DQ11 resurface. Is the second-hand market keeping it at bay?
God, yes. It tops the used charts in a few retailers.

I don't expect all games to sell 100k. But that's really low right now

Maybe you should try to compare those sales with the PS4 versions ? (DBX2, FIFA ...)

That would help you to have a reference point.
