Media Create tends to go below other trackers for hardware of Nintendo systems at holidays last years.

Promotion likely happened for PS4 hitting internal targets since sales had dropped to very low levels before December. If it did its work and from the moment it didn't had any serious impact at selling software there was no reason to continue.

Makes sense. Kinda opposite of US where they didn't have any deals in December like they had in EU and Japan.

Smash might run away with it this gen unless there's a last good Splatoon DLC that helps it maintain its top spot.

I don't think there has ever been a doubt. Splatoon is big, sure, but it's a relatively new IP and has already achieved so much. Smash has been one of the biggest franchises in Japan since forever. In fact, it's more surprising that Splatoon is so high already and can even battle with Smash.

I'm not gonna lie, going from 117k to sub 20k would be really disappointing especially with 3 good games coming in January. AC7, RE2 and KH3.

With the kind of deal they were running, I would be suprised if many people chose week 2 to pick up a PS4 without any deal, instead of week 1 with New Year's money and deal.

Splatoon might be the biggest Nintendo IP in Japan right now. The perennial titans have been Mario Kart and 2D Mario series, with Smash usually trailing behind. So it's interesting to see how all the guest third party characters and hype may catapult Smash past some of the legacy cash cows this generation.

I don't necessarily mean KH3 since that's right around the corner. But for example, whatever FFXVI winds up being I think SE almost has no choice but to consider Switch in that equation. Capcom with Resident Evil 8, etc.

I doubt that.
ff16 might not even be this gen.
Even if it was, I'd put money on it not being on switch

not everybody who bought BotW would like the game I assume.

so the sale of next entry of 3D Zelda (in Japan) is still unpredictable.

Anyone still positive that big AAA title will come to NSW is joking themselves. Those will miss Nintendo platform like usual and life will goes like usual.

The only difference is more smaller to medium company will now actually try to make sure their game to hit switch to get those hot money. Big company will not care a bit.

world of mouth, which is presumably carrying sales nearly 2 years after the fact, has to be quite good which means people like it.
As for the sales of the next mainline title, that'll depend on a lot of circumstances like how different/similar it is, when it comes out, what's the competition, etc

KH3 is gonna do like 10m worldwide so Square will probably ignore it fine.

What? KH3 will not sell half of that. The series is just not nearly as big anymore than it was 2006, and even than it only managed to sell 4-5 million.

KH2 had even localized voices in europe, KH3 has only subtitles a big no-go for the kids audience this game is aimed at.

KH3 will sell more than KH2(outside of Japan) and less than FFXV(everywhere). 10 million isn't happening unless something crazy happens.

How much did KH2 did all in all? I dont see KH 3 especially being numbered will sales more than FFXV.

KH brand alone is much smaller than what FF had.

You're talking about RE2 and KH3? I definitely see those two keep the PS4 ahead of Switch for a while. Maybe Switch will surpass it as we're near the holidays.

For a while? Even MH3 or DQ11 managed only a short spike effect in PS4 hardware.

Most people who wanted a PS4 for these games had probably bought one in december or last week, because of the exceptional low bundle price, but that promotion has ended and will not likely return soon.

I would be surprised if these games had more effect than a weekly sales spike.

There's not enough time for another new 3D Zelda game (be it in the style of BOTW or the more traditional style) to be released during the Switch's life time (hell it basically skipped the Wii U entirely!)

I disagree. A big chunk of the development time was spent working on that engine. It's there now. They can use it for another 3D Zelda game and this way the development time should shrink significantly.

This doesn't mean much to be honest, who thought that a Zelda game and a Monster Hunter game will outsell the first main Final Fantasy for a new generation by millions of units?

It is only a feeling, but I think Kingdom Hearts 3 is going to be a massive success worldwide. I think it will have a strong word of mouth and will sell very well.
and word of mouth is much more effective those days than PS2 days.

Wonder if they are going win a one or two cart solution.

Doesn't say. But it seems the Switch versions are the only ones getting a physical release in Japan, with the Xbox version regulated to Download-only.

The X/X-2 pack is 6,800 yen for the physical, 6,080 for the download. The Zodiac Age is 5,800 yen for both physical and download.

Yeah, glad they are offering it, sucks that it has a bit of a markup, but that should be nullified by retailer discounts and T-POINTs.

I dunno about Japan, but I suspect KH3 worldwide sales will blow some minds. Personally I can't stand the series and consider it trash-tier in every conceivable way (gameplay, story, art style, soundtrack, etc.) but I have to admit the buzz for it is mighty strong around me.

Since this week's releases are on Friday no first day sell-through will be shared.

However tha blog is sharing that Tales of Vesperia Remaster first shipment is PS4 > NSW.

No suprises.

I'm not sure I share your feeling, but I'd like your feeling to come true. We've waited so long for Kingdom Hearts 3. It'd be a shame if it ends up underperforming.

From what I've read online, the word of mouth for KH3 from those who got it earlier isn't very good.
Whether it's true or not I don't know.
But KH3 as the closing game to the current arc is bound to disappoint people.
It's not easy to tie down everything in the mess that is KH story.

Breath of the Wild's retail price is well above ALBW's, especially in Japan and Europe; where it is significantly more expensive than any other Switch title (the US got the game for cheaper than any other region by quite a margin).

That no doubt helped with that breakeven point.

It also took around 5-6 years to make. There's not enough time for another new 3D Zelda game (be it in the style of BOTW or the more traditional style) to be released during the Switch's life time (hell it basically skipped the Wii U entirely!)

So there is certainly a cause for having a smaller scale title in the vein of ALBW on Switch.

A good chunk of the BotW development time was the physics engine it would be silly not to use it again, there's certainly enough time to put another 3D Zelda game on the system, it's not getting abondoned after 4-5 years.

And no it didnt basically skip the Wii U entirely, it was just the very last EAD game due to the Wii U having such a short life.

I'm incredibly excited for KH3, been faunching at the bit for months now as the release date approaches. That said, I don't believe for a second that game is going to manage to tie everything up neatly in a bow. That's fine I suppose, I'm not expecting much closure from that story. I'm just here for the spectacle.

Much better than what Super Mario Party is doing everywhere isn't possible.

It will be over 5m last quarter.
While true. I do agree with the other poster that perhaps Mario Party could shift into a once a system title. They could support it with a year of paid DLC support, to help with legs as well as make more money off the title. It would likely have strong legs and sell similar to other Nintendo evergreens.

While it's true that Mario Party still does big numbers in it's current form. There is potential for additional monetization, reduces risk of franchise fatigue, and allows for continued sales throughout the system's lifetime. It would also allow ND Cube to work on other franchises. A better attempt at an Animal Crossing party game, may not go over as bad as Amiibo Festival was received. If successful, it could grow the Animal Crossing brand further. They could try a new ip minigame collection in the vein of 1,2 Switch and Wii U Party. Maybe even working on Wario Ware. While Mario Party will consistently sell millions. There may be added benefits to changing priorities.

Curious to see how hight they are.

1,2.. Switch should be above 500k. ARMS too (but we knew that IIRC).

Donkey Kong at this point might approaching 300k and Pokkén 350k.

According to Famitsu Nintendo as a publisher topped 10m of software at retail in 2018, up from 9m in 2017.
