That Kirby's legs might be better than usual because of the sparse H1 releases giving it more and longer spotlight.

How a comment about Kirby's legs can be related to a comment about Kirby's opening...?

I'm hereby calling the dreams of DQ Builders Switch getting to 100K dead.

I think we should wait some more weeks. If it can hang around 3-4k for some weeks then Golden Week might provide a boost and allow the game to keep selling.

FW more than halved compared to the first game. In that sense, it's kind of the expected result :P

Great numbers for Kirby and Attack of Titan.

And Devil May Cry HD bombed. Sold even worse than Bayonetta. I guess there's no room for hack n' slash games in Japan any more.

Damn Kirby launch was great! MHW no longer at #1 :(

I didn't even like the new Kirby but I guess this is cool

Wonder how Ni no Kuni 2 will do, don't think the first one did that great in Japan. Also kinda curious if Sea of Thieves will even chart

RIP Devil May Cry HD and Gal Gun 2 on Switch

Between this and Bayonetta, I'm now not as optimistic for other ports like Hyrule Warriors and Tropical Freeze. I think those might come and go the same way.
All these ports are for a Global audience to begin with - i think people overestimate the importance of jpn sales for these games. They will sell okay or well enough - but at the end they are just here to fill up the release schedule and improve the library options.

These games (at least the main Nintendo) ones will sell for years i doubt anyone at Nintendo will be stressed about initial Japan only sales when they know how well their software catalogue does over Holidays.

Do we still get Vink's updates?

Curious about whether or not Switch is still supply-constrained in Japan. It'll be interesting to see if there's a bump come Labo next month.

Naw. Still too early.

Bayonetta was always gonna come and go. Same with Hyrule Warriors give Fire Emblem Warriors and every other Musou game has had shit legs the last few years.

DK is the next test.

Kirby is still doing Kirby numbers, that IP will never die <3
HAL is doing some great work to avoid franchise fatigue, releasing spin-offs between mainlines might explain it.

That's too bad about DQB but it is an old port (that's been portable before to boot) with a sequel already announced.

(I was very glad when it was announced, particularly because it was localized suggesting there is a localized future for DQ on Switch).

Right- I think it would/could have done significantly better if it was released before the sequel was announced.

And I can't help but notice that MH:W continues its decline. Sure it's slow and steady but it still hasn't stabilized.

Yes MHW did amazingly well but still it doesn't look like it will have the same long-lasting impact that series had to PSP sales for example. The novelty of this new formula sure helped it a lot to be a system seller but that series still probably remains a portable centric one mainly. We all know what that means...

Agreed. Its also limited by PS4's install base to an extent.

Great start for Kirby. 900K-1M is potentially on the cards.

Couple this to Benji's comments in the NPD thread and the game's early performance in Europe, and I'm wondering if Kirby might join Zelda and 3D Mario in having its Switch entry be the franchise's best seller.

Kirby numbers are great.

How is Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon doing compared to other 3rd versions?
We haven't had another third version since Black 2 White 2, which was at about 2.5 million a month after launch. USUM is tracking substantially less. The games don't have a very positive reputation though and the 3DS does have a smaller install base, so it's still impressive, but I think most fans didn't seem the minuscule improvements as worth it and are ready to move on to the next generation of games.

How a comment about Kirby's legs can be related to a comment about Kirby's opening...?
It's just indirectly the same idea. You said Kirby's opening (a strong new game) might have dampened the legs of the evergreens title, and I was saying Kirby's legs probably won't be dampened for a long time because of the lack of new games. It relates to the same notion.

Disclaimer- this is not meant to in any way downplay or disparage MH World sales which are incredible and way more than anyone's wildest expectations.I was completely wrong.

That said- right now its not showing much evidence of a long tail and unless digital sales keep their insane ratio I'm skeptical it will get to 3M.

That's an amazing debut for Kirby Star Allies. With the legs of other Kirby mainline games and a lot of Switch software in general, over one million lifetime sales definitely seems realistic.

Really nice numbers for Kirby and Switch and it looks like the honeymoon with Monster Hunter World and PS4 is over. I thought there where weekly reports of it being supply constraint, was that not simply the case?

PS4 is in desperate need of a price cut. Don't know why Sony didn't try to keep zp the Monster Hunter momentum by slashing the price.

I honestly don't think a price drop would help that much for PS4. It would be a temporary boost for sales but the writing is on the wall and while MonHun has sold very well on PS4 It was never going to boost PS4 baseline like it looks now.

If PS4 really goes sub-20k next week the PS4 vs PS3 comparison chart will take an interesting turn.

Well I think that PS3 will have the advantage for a few months now it looks like?

That's a big debut for Kirby, above my expectations. I expected a bit more on the hardware side for NSW but it's still fine. AOT2 bombed. PS4's drop is still partially explained by shortages but it's still in dire need of more significant releases.

Yeah if AOT2 did this bad in Japan then I can only imagine what it does elsewhere.
