I think the Famitsu number for Splatoon 2 (+21%) suggests that there were a number of bundles throughout last week (last week's bundles were very concentrated on amazon Japan, which Famitsu doesn't track but MC does). The small percentage on MC also suggests that there were some units available since the +37% from the week before would imply a bigger drop this week than 5%, unless there was something to prop it up (the bundles).Speaking of Splatoon, what was the bundle situation last week? It managed to stay around 30k, which I thought was only due to the bundle in the first place. Is it still a factor?

There's really no excuse regarding MMLC1+2. All 10 games plus emulators plus extra stuff could fit on an 8GB card. The games plus emulators themselves could fit on a 2GB card even with plenty of room to spare.Prices always get adjusted to demand. The price difference between 8GB to 16GB cards isn't a dealbreaker, otherwise we wouldn't see any games on 16GB cards in the first place. It's more a matter of profit maximation than anything else, like the cheapasse strategy regarding the MegaMan collection.
It is pretty interesting that the Splatoon bundle is so sought after since it's like above MSRP. I guess the game being so popular helpsGamesmaya had a special Far Cry 5 event today and didn't give a first day report for new releases.
___
Nintendo is restocking Splatoon 2 bundles, they will be treated as major SKU for Golden Week.
Yeah, I've been wondering about this: the bundle doesn't actually represent any extra value as far as I can tell, so why does it boost sales? Just because of the stickers and the art on the box?It is pretty interesting that the Splatoon bundle is so sought after since it's like above MSRP. I guess the game being so popular helps
I recall hearing that they were on different engines and packaging them in one game would likely take extra work that they weren't willing to put in.There's really no excuse regarding MMLC1+2. We've seen 3rd parties release 8GB games at retail for $39.99 too so it's not a price/size issue either. Capcom had a legitimate issue with the RER Collection (they'd have needed to use a 64GB to fit all of both games) but even there RER1 used a 16GB card and they released the collection for $39.99.

Because of music licenses and song popularity, I assume? I think Ubisoft never released the western Just Dance games in Japan. They did release two Just Dance games on Wii and one on Wii U with a specific songlist for the Japanese market. Can someone explain to me why Just Dance isn't releasing yearly in Japan ?
Even if the game is very far from the height of its Golden Wii era, it is still a decent seller.
Sorry, was thinking about the American price which is essentially MSRP+$10 since it brings a caseSwitch + Splatoon 2 = 29.980 + 5.980 = 35.960

They're from different devs (MMLC1 = Digital Eclipse, MMLC2 = Now Production) but it's still an insane excuse. They're charging $40, they can afford to throw in a frontend selection screen and have both game files on the card.I recall hearing that they were on different engines and packaging them in one game would likely take extra work that they weren't willing to put in.
Is there a 1+2 collection for PS4 in one disc?
Games have shipped on 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 GB cards so far. They scale in price with capacity (like 3DS did), with 8GB being below/close to what Sony/MS charge on a $40+ disc release.Would be interesting to know if there are smaller cards available to publishers. The MegaMan collection is a bad joke and a deal breaker.

Bargain prices for Swtch software in Japan almost don't exist. Lost Sphear is one of these few examples price was lowered more than usual at some retailers but far from bomba bin.

Ubisoft has very little presence in Japan. Can someone explain to me why Just Dance isn't releasing yearly in Japan ?
Even if the game is very far from the height of its Golden Wii era, it is still a decent seller.
I should have said very little presence until recently. Maybe about 4 years ago with the release of the PS4 have they started to make more of a presence here. That said, it seems they have not been trying the same for any platforms other than PS4 here, at least not yet. They are publishing a lot of their franchises in Japan tho (AC, Far Cry, For Honor, Watch Dogs, R6S...) and some of them are good sellers.
SE is the most notable one because it partners with Activision Blizzard. I think Spike Chunsoft published The Wither 3. But Ubisoft, Take Two, EA and Bethesda all publish their own games in Japan. Maybe because their games are selling better now.Heard that most the western companies generally pick a commercial partner to launch their games around Japan, like Square-Enix.
Didn't they sell the Splatoon 2 bundle box, as in just the box, last year?

No one ever expected it. Thing is if the japanese third party still care about having a decent dedicated home market and I feel like they don't.After the sales of Valkyria Chronicles 4 and Ni no Kuni II in Japan, I'm certain now that PS4 can't carry the market there alone at all.
The worst case is Wii, where the identity of the console is so fixed that 3P games that come late simply don't sell.
It can't. It was obvious from its first 3 years. This is why there is minimal interest in talking about PS4, because it is already done. Reaching 10 million or not is significant for the console and it's fans, doesn't matter in the big picture.
Not like the NSW can though, given the slow support. Its best case is the NDS, where 3P cones late yet find an audience. Yet the NSW isn't selling like the NDS, so it is not sure thing.
The worst case is Wii, where the identity of the console is so fixed that most JP3P games that come late simply don't sell despite install base, because the audience that would have brought their games are already alienated by the "identity" of the Wii, and was not built up early.
Its a toss up how it will end.

So, looks like GE3 is PS4/PC only in the west. Looks like Bamco's XB1 affair is already over?
Well... it doesn't seem like Japanese companies are realizing that :P
Seems like it:
-From next Spring and into the Summer, there will be "3 big titles coming/developing worldwide", exclusively for Switch.
-Continued development for software on PS/Xbox/Steam. Plenty of dev resources available.
Q. Please tell us (the stakeholders) the status of sales / development for Nintendo Switch
A. So far (November 2017), we've released three titles on the system: "Namco Museum", "ONE PIECE Unlimited World R" and "Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 for Nintendo Switch", with good sales. At the current moment, our main offering / development consists of ports of existing titles, but we're strengthening the resources towards the system, and we plan to release several new, original titles for Nintendo Switch in the next fiscal year.
Yeah it was literally a system custom designed for western markets, Sony sacrificed Japan for the west with everything about its design. The PS4 was never going to carry the Japanese market by itself.
Ever.
Last week's thread saw a pretty extensive (and animated, as usual) discussion about third party support on Switch, with Bandai Namco among the ones criticised the most for their current output, strongly port-focused with other titles still missing the system. I wanted to re-state what we know about Bamco's future support since November + a theory on the matter.
What Mochizuki reported
Statements from Bandai Namco themselves
http://www.bandainamco.co.jp/en/ir/library/pdf/presentation/en_20171107_Presentation.pdf
Page 7. "Beginning of development of original titles for Nintendo Switch" is listed under the "Introduction of multiple worldwide titles" in the Network Entertainment cathegory
http://www.bandainamco.co.jp/ir/library/pdf/presentation/20171107_4QA.pdf
Page 1. Based on Google Translate, but it should be accurate enough. Feel free to correct me if there's anything wrong
The Q&A session from November stated how in the short term Namco would've brought mainly ports to the system, and this is exactly what's been happening for a while: not only "One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 Deluxe Edition" was announced at the end of October and "Gotouchi Tetsudou for Nintendo Switch!!" was already a thing since a few months earlier, but after the financial meeting ports of SD Gundam G Generation Genesis, Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy, Little Nightmares and Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 have been unveiled / released. So, things went exactly as Bandai Namco stated for the fiscal year, with a heavy focus on older titles re-releasing on the system while shifting resources in order to have new games for the next fiscal year. So far, the Fiscal Year from April 1st, 2018 to March 31st, 2019 has two original titles coming to the system: "Taiko no Tatsujin Nintendo Switch Version!!" (exclusive) and "My Hero Academia: One's Justice" (multiplatform), with "Dark Souls Remastered" which is...eh, I don't know in which cathegory it should go, wheter it's a port or an "original game" since it's a remastered. Frankly, I assume the former though.
Anyways, given what said in the answer, we should get more announcements / releases of "original" games from Bamco starting from the upcoming Fiscal Year (by that I mean both games releasing in the FY and games getting unveiled, but not released during the FY), including the "3 big titles coming/developing worldwide, exclusively for Switch".
Now, as mentioned at the start of this post, my own theory: speaking of those titles coming from Mochizuki's reports, first of all "Taiko no Tatsujin" shouldn't be one of them since the franchise is not worldwide due to being Japan/Asian-exclusive. Neither MHA or Dark Souls should be considered as such, since they're multiplatform games. Between the mention of exclusives and how, going by Mochizuki's words, resources for Switch games are not impacting development of software on PS/Xbox/Steam, I'm starting to think that, alongside releases with multiplatform releases across all platforms, there might be two parallel development pipelines going on / developing: one dedicated specifically towards titles for PS4 / Xbox One / Steam and another for Switch-exclusive content. As already said, this doesn't mean we couldn't see games released across all of them, both simultaneously or later (Dragon Ball Fighter Z could be an example of a PS4/Xbox One/Steam --> Switch later release), but it might mean that, for example, as PS4/Xbox One/Steam get Code Vein and God Eater 3, the Switch gets Taiko no Tatsujin and Ridge Racer 8 (to use a strongly-rumoured game as an example).
