I was referring to Guilty Gear, I thought that was bigger than Blazeblue.

That declaration never made sense anyway, why wouldn't Guilty Gear make a good fit when they are happy to bring Cross Tag Battle? But they did say it.

I'm pretty sure GG is bigger than BB yeah. The explanation is dumb yeah, I guess it's due to one of those JP things where each team can do/say whatever they want. Hopefully the next GG will be there then, I guess the main issue was GGXrd Rev2 being on UE3 (DBFZ is on UE4) and they didn't want to bother porting that.
Not counting DBFZ for obvious reasons (it's not their IP and it's goddamn Dragon Ball).

the only logical reason GG didnt get ported over is because it was old and they had a new BB game being made. if there's a Guilty Gear X4, it's definitely coming to Switch

2m for XB2 seems unlikely, but not necessarily impossible. If they release a GOTY version with all the DLC and then a Nintendo Select version down the line, it could leg it out eventually.

The fact that it could even get close is a big deal though.

The YSO predictions strike me as a bit low for Kirby. Let's compare with Triple Deluxe:
01./01. [3DS] Kirby Triple Deluxe <ACT> (Nintendo) {2014.01.11} (¥4.800) - 85.007 / 310.455 <80-100%> (-62%)
02./01. [3DS] Kirby Triple Deluxe <ACT> (Nintendo) {2014.01.11} (¥4.800) - 61.510 / 371.965 <80-100%> (-28%)
02./02. [3DS] Kirby Triple Deluxe <ACT> (Nintendo) {2014.01.11} (¥4.800) - 46.370 / 418.335 <80-100%> (-25%)

Triple Deluxe sold over 45k in its 4th week. Star Allies, in turn, had a softer first week drop and furthermore has higher absolute sales:
01./01. [NSW] Kirby Star Allies <ACT> (Nintendo) {2018.03.16} (¥5.980) - 94.150 / 317.961 <60-80%> (-58%)

Triple Deluxe had lost 45% of its weekly sales when comparing the second week with the fourth week ( (85,007-46,370)/85,007 = 45.5% drop), while they expect Star Allies to lose at least 58% of its weekly sales ( (94,150-40,000)/94,150 = 57.5% drop), and that's just for the top prediction: it would be 63% for the average prediction. So, it seems YSO is expecting noticeably larger drops in week 3 and 4 for Star Allies than for Triple Deluxe. It's possible, of course, since 3DS had 15M units out there when Triple Deluxe launched and therefore may have brought in the target audience more than Switch currently has, but that would go against the first week sales tbh, so I don't think this explanation is solid for explaining the lower expectations: why didn't we see a harder drop in the second week, for example? I do expect Kirby to still be around 50k in its 4th week.

It's not impossible, it's hard, probably the hardest goal of a Nintendo game these days, but you know what? The Xenoblade series is becoming popular game after game. And not only because the waifus on it, or even being a moderately ambitious JRPG game in a Nintendo platform, but I feel that if the series continue to evolve it's core, bringing something new to the table and putting some QoL features on itm I feel that the series will turn itself into a big one in the JRPG scenario.

Anyway, it's hard to evaluate the XB series in a world where Splatoon is big since the day 1, and even the old Xeno games being a lot more ambitious on their screenplay, but there are times which you find a unexpected gem in sea of bullshit (i'm looking at you, FF XIII), and I really wish that the Monolithsoft continues to giving their best on the series.

It's gonna be damn near impossible. There are a handful of JRPGs that double their first month sales. Like Pokemon and, and . . .

That said. It will probably finish north of 1.5m which puts it in the upper region of JRPGs worldwide. Basically only FF, KH, Pokemon, Dragon Quest, Persona, Fire Emblem and Nier would be bigger at this point. The other thing to note is the game is still full price everywhere. That's a good sign it is moving healthy numbers.

ASW doesn't count because they are too small.

Level 5 doesn't count because they always support Nintendo

KT doesn't count because they are too medium

NIS doesn't count because they are too small

SE doesn't count because..uhh..because they're too big?

Yeah it's terrible, right?

I mean, if you exclude all the 3rd party games the Switch is getting basically there are no games at all!

I got bored this morning and got some publisher statistics from the Famitsu data for Switch:

RBp2Cim.png

I'm always amazed with how easy Nintendo get million sellers in Japan compared to other publishers. I think that in history they have more than 100 just in there.

XC2 needs to hit 2m so more people can listen to one of the best soundtracks ever.

So good.
It's not just the soundtrack itself that makes the music so magnificent, either: it's how incredibly well it's implemented as well. The video below is an example of that: just perfect harmony between the scene and the music (spoilers for Chapter 4 of the game!)

But to stay on topic, the game's sales were at around 1,000 units a week about a month ago:

26 Feb - 04 Mar:
46./52. [NSW] Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Nintendo) {2017.12.01} - 989 / 180,100

Presently, its sales could still be around that level, since the barrier to entry for the top 10 has been raised to 1,311 units. In that month of absence, though, its sales must have been below 880 units at least some weeks, since it fails appear in a week where the no. 50 had 883 units. It's quite possible that XBC2 is selling steadily at around 800-1,000 units, so maybe it can reach the 200k by the end of the year (introducing some extra decay in the coming months for good measure).

Do people not expect XB2 to get a bump when the Fall Story DLC drops ?

I have a feeling they might even package the Seasonpass into the game as a kind of "GOTC" edition sometime next year.

Has Nintendo even done GOTY editions including paid DLC yet?
Only thing I can think of is the Animal Crossing re-release, but it just includes free DLC I believe.

no. I dont think this kind of update really extends the legs of the game. especially since there's no kind of discount unless it hit bargain bins (doesnt seem to have done that) or they buy it used. if people were interested in the DLC, they'd have already brought the game

NSMBU + Luigi and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Hyrule Warriors Deluxe as well if you want to count them.

NSMB Wii U + Luigi U which is also a Nintendo Selects game(at least in Europe). Absolute steal for ~£20.

It'll definitely pass 200,000 on Media Create. It's probably past 190,000 there already.

On the topic of Guilty Gear Xrd and Unreal Engine 3, how easy is it for developers to port their UE3 projects to UE4? I know Unity documented the transition from Unity 4 to Unity 5 very well, and where they expected most crashes/fixes needed to occur. I have never worked with Unreal Engine 3, so I have no idea how different UE3 and UE4 are from each other, but could it be possible that Arc System Works has ported Guilty Gear Xrd over to UE4 in the meantime? Do we have concrete evidence (lol) that they're still using UE3 for it?

there's no compatibility and I can only name 2 games that have made the transition (well, 3 games as Arkham Collection is 2 games). and Xrd is all on UE3. we know that for a fact. but development of that game is done, they're all in on UE4 now

Okay, cool, thanks. It was just curiosity of me. I don't follow Guilty Gear that well tbh. Have you said/hinted at a new game or that Xrd is finished or something like that?

I forgot about NSMBU+NSMLU. Good one yeah.
I didn't count MK8DX and HWDX since as Dardan Sandiego said, it's more of an expanded port later on.

It's pretty different from upgrading from Unity, even more if your project was big and it was customized in some way.
I don't think all projects are necessarily complicated to port to, but Arcsys is not that big, and it's probably easier (both time and effort) to just branch out from DBFZ now.

edit:

The story mode of GGXrd Rev2 has been updated and already teases something next, and they've confirmed they were planning things for the next GG too.
That said, given how it ends, I don't think it'll be a GG X4 yet, but more a new GGXrd game (GGXrd Sign and Revelator are more different than Rev1 and 2).

Cutscene direction is so good in this game. One of my fav games in the last few years for sure despite the flaws. I see it crawling to 200k since they can do lots of promotions on it and its still seeing updates. I expect the legs in the US to be better though.

They really should do a discount GOTY type package though. Could push some extra units.

Every third version Pokemon game is a GotY edition.

Except you can't just buy the DLC by itself, lol.
It's not even a GOTY version, since the original story is missing. It's literally DLC packed in a full price retail product.

Edit: well, not literally. It's like standalone DLC for full price. The issue remains clear, of course: give us the updated story as DLC pls!

I see, thanks. :)
As for the continuation of the Guilty Gear series: if it's another GG Xrd (and it looks like that's the case), I doubt they'll switch engines, because that would mean that they can't use the current game as base version...

Yup, also on COMG the Variety SKU increased by a point two days in a row after having been stationary for weeks. The signs of a build-up towards launch are there, so it will be the thing to watch in the next couple of weeks.

Does anyone in Japan know if marketing for Labo has ramped up in the last week?

Well, the first Labo commercial started airing this week in Japan:

The Snack World anime scores pretty good viewership numbers but only has 4 more episodes in its run and when the Switch game launches there will only be 2 left.

I'm not expecting long legs for the game if the series ends and I'm not expecting a huge first week but if they market Gold effectively (like they are already starting to by sticking Chup front and center on the cover) it might be a surprise flash in the pan.

The first game is sitting at 265k but I wouldn't be too shocked if Gold can hit 85k-100k in about a month.
