With such massive results, it's pretty clear that Nintendo has no dated release for April because...they simply don't need it: Animal Crossing will keep on selling huge numbers in the short-mid term. Every week will look like a launch week, especially as GW itself gets closer.

For Japan this is true but I don't think the rest of the world will see a bump this big in terms of HW not such a sustained boost. I agree that they don't need to rush anything out but this year is a great year for them to continue the momentum the switch is enjoying.

Mario Kart is already on the platform though, so it wouldn't change much.

This logic has been used to a lot but it's never true. It's the same as when people used to say CoD wouldn't move any HW because there was already one released that gen before causing a big spike in sales. Sequels can still move big amounts of HW especially in major franchises. Even more so with something like Mario kart which technically hasn't even had a new game this gen.

Eh, I disagree there. A new Mario Kart would presumably have some new "hook" to it. There's also absolutely no doubt that it would be heavily advertised and would get bundles. People would eat those bundles up during the holidays. We'd probably see an opening month over 10 million again and it would easily be charting in the top ten for the rest of the Switch's life.

That's if it happens, of course.

Also depends if we're talking Japan or WW. IMO BOTW2 will be one of the biggest HW movies depending on its release. It will be advertised as the follow up to arguably the best game of all time and the game that defined the switch. It'll be fucking huge.

I don't understand why everyone is so shocked that Switch is doing so well. Nintendo only has one system now compared to two before (a console and a handheld).

Is Switch doing better than Wii and DS combined? I don't have the data in front of me, but I'm pretty sure it isn't. Is it even doing better than Wii U and 3DS combined?
You're right, Switch is a failure, can't even keep up with DS, let alone Wii+DS

they should go third party and save everyone the trouble

Honestly Nintendogs feels more like a future mobile game to me.
I mean they could do both

Some mobile free to play game with integration into the Switch game.
Something like take your dogs from your console to your smartphone to take care of them while you're at work.

I think it would be a pretty good franchise for a 1-2 punch. Kinda like Animal Crossing. Pocket Camp into New Horizons.

Going to be a really weird investor's meeting if they roll into the next one without having done a Direct or any announcements.

On the one hand, Animal Crossing will probably be on pace to sell 30m units worldwide.
On the other hand, Nintendo has one game announced for 2020 and may not release much of anything at all in Q2.

I don't think there's enough stock anywhere in the world for a sustained boost.

Maybe they are still hoping that 3rd parties will take over during that time? Worked so well the last few years ;)

Still need to know the game plan for at least the next 2 quarters and maybe an announcement for holiday titles? Like many have said already April is fine for now (golden week will still have AC momentum as well as good Switch Hardware supply?) but May looks to only have Xenoblade HD remake and if rumors are true it'll be at the end of the month.

This is the second time Sony gives a game for free with PS4. Iceborne Master Edition was ¥6.990 and Final Fantasy VII Remake ¥8.980.

PlayStation 4 Monster Hunter: World - Iceborne Master Edition Starter Pack <BUN> (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2019.09.06} (¥29.980)
PlayStation 4 Pro Monster Hunter: World - Iceborne Master Edition Starter Pack <BUN> (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2019.09.06} (¥39.980)

PlayStation 4 Final Fantasy VII Remake Pack <BUN> (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2020.04.10} (¥29.980)
PlayStation 4 Pro Final Fantasy VII Remake Pack <BUN> (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2020.04.10} (¥39.980)

Not bespoke bundles but between the Amazon sale and these it's nice to see Sony trying to move more units.

9 million could come a lot sooner than I thought.

I still can't believe Breath of the Wild is going to hit 2 million units shipped in Japan. It seemed unimaginable a decade ago. Five years ago, even.

It would need to sell over 90k to beat Hunters (I find it very amusing it's the best selling Prime in Japan).
I think it will be able to do that at least. FPS has increased in popularity a lot since those days, and maybe its a Switch 2 launch title as well (both on Switch 1 and 2, like Zelda was).

Hehe, Tomodachi collection was incredible and hilarious I cannot wait to see what Nintendo does with it.
All hail the Virtual Boy.
I just remembered Paper Mario too, maybe Mario RPG as well. Not sure which series thats left to be released.

The core issue was always if big portable software numbers (+3-6m) could be recreated with the games being more expensive. No one was wondering if AC or Pokemon on Switch could sell as they did on 64 or Cube - as you say AC was on consoles before and successful considering those circumstances....but people were wondering if Smash, Pokemon, AC and co. could hit numbers on Switch they had reached before on DS/3DS.

Personally i was somewhat between both of these opinions and wouldnt have been surprised if some games would have had more issues selling as well as their 3DS counterparts - the numbers for the big guns on Switch have been really impressive.
Yeah, thats true and i agree with you. I was just saying why i think the other guy replied what he did to your intial post =) Or maybe you're just elaborating on your point in general, if so, i see what you mean, and i agree with that.

I think i was a bit in between too. Wasnt sure how things would go at a higher price points. Could have gone both ways i guess, i cant remember having any strong feeling about a bigger decline at least. But selling at a higher price and still beat sales records really shows that these games are viewed as good value.

This has to be the biggest comeback that a video game manufacturer has ever did in the history of Gaming.
If you mean more hardware related, i'd give that to the Wii. Coming of from the Gamecube that did about 4 million, and the Wii doing about 12.7 million (same for worldwide, where the Wii sold about 80 million more units than the Gamecube).

PS4 ain't selling PS3+PSP numbers either... You can Vita to PS4 and it doesn't make much difference.

Xbox is definitely down.

Guess the whole industry is doing badly.
I feel like it does make sense to compare, say, year 1 of PS4 + PSV to year 1 of the PS5 in certain contexts. Switch is doing incredibly well, but for Nintendo as a company, it does represent that it didn't make sense for them to continue to support 2 traditional platforms at once anymore.

Thanks. I wonder if the "leg" will be as soft.
It released one day before Animal Crossing also, not sure about that ha ha. Although its probably only fans, people who dont have ps4/want to play on handheld and double dippers probably anyway.

Since it's in line with previous game all that matters now is the west.

The thing I see floating around here is that Switch is really the same gen as WiiU and 3DS. So shouldn't we combine all 3 for now and then criticize Nintendo for their next gen platform not reaching this gen's 3 combined total?

I think this game combined with the Switch numbers didn't do bad. It probably is a million seller already worldwide.
