Great AC sales. Now give us what we want!

A real Panel de Pon game rather than a DLC spinoff?

Technically Switch is now the best selling home console post-PS2.🤭

Doubtful. Nintendo hasn't cared about stand alone Panel De Pon games since the really really lackluster Puzzle League on DS. I could see them maybe doing a Tetris 99 type of reboot though.
Well, you've just said what people want, and I definitely don't want a poor Puzzle League spinoff again :p

Week 26 2019:
Code:
+-------+------------+------------+------------+------------+------------+-------------+
|System | This Week | Last Week | Last Year | YTD | Last YTD | LTD |
+-------+------------+------------+------------+------------+------------+-------------+
| NSW | 59.184 | 29.058 | 50.678 | 1.483.898 | 1.167.557 | 8.373.444 |
+-------+------------+------------+------------+------------+------------+-------------+

Week 12 2020:
Code:
+-------+------------+------------+------------+------------+------------+-------------+
|System | This Week | Last Week | Last Year | YTD | Last YTD | LTD |

+-------+------------+------------+------------+------------+------------+-------------+

Next week's hardware sales need only be 66,107 next week for 2020's Q1 to have outsold 2019 Q1+Q2. That's how big Switch's sales are at this moment.

Comparison to 3DS:

Week 13 2012 (MC numbers):
Code:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
|System | This Week | Last Week | Last Year | YTD | Last YTD | LTD |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| 3DS | 121.921 | 94.011 | 42.979 | 1.240.445 | 835.933 | 5.522.588 |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Week 13 2013:
Code:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
|System | This Week | Last Week | Last Year | YTD | Last YTD | LTD |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| 3DS # | 67.007 | 76.043 | 118.072 | 1.330.950 | 1.424.357 | 11.093.452 |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So yeah, this isn't just big when compared to what Switch did before: it's well ahead of any Q1 that 3DS has had, as well.

I'm guessing he means that Animal Crossing isnt specifically a portable franchise in a response when you said "big portable franchises".

On that subject, i think it was a fair point to speculate how the increased prices would affect the sales, but it can be kinda funny looking back on that subject even so (i guess thats what you mean?) :) I guess that the price increase didnt really affect things that much because it was still within a reasonable price range, and people were/are used to paying $60 for games (it might have different if the price went from $60 to $80 instead of $40 to $60). And that people see the value in the games even at a $40 and $60 pricetag of course =)
The core issue was always if big portable software numbers (+3-6m) could be recreated with the games being more expensive. No one was wondering if AC or Pokemon on Switch could sell as they did on 64 or Cube - as you say AC was on consoles before and successful considering those circumstances....but people were wondering if Smash, Pokemon, AC and co. could hit numbers on Switch they had reached before on DS/3DS.

Personally i was somewhat between both of these opinions and wouldnt have been surprised if some games would have had more issues selling as well as their 3DS counterparts - the numbers for the big guns on Switch have been really impressive.

The most amazing thing about this week is Ring Fit Adventure's sales. It's been completely sold out in my country for at least 2 weeks.

I don't understand why everyone is so shocked that Switch is doing so well. Nintendo only has one system now compared to two before (a console and a handheld).

Is Switch doing better than Wii and DS combined? I don't have the data in front of me, but I'm pretty sure it isn't. Is it even doing better than Wii U and 3DS combined?

Then tell me how it works then. Nintendo is selling significantly less hardware than the Wii/DS days.

PS4 ain't selling PS3+PSP numbers either... You can Vita to PS4 and it doesn't make much difference.

Xbox is definitely down.

Guess the whole industry is doing badly.

Even then, it shouldn't surprise anyone that two products with with two separate game libraries are selling more combined than a single platform.

The Switch better gonna sell 250 millions or Nintendo is doomed!

There isn't much else to say. What a performance. If this thing shows strong legs Nintendo might be right by deciding to avoid other directs.

Still, it will be very interesting to see how they play the rest of the year.

Wow.
AC opening great is not too surprising, but the 1.8 is a very large number. The hype for this game was unreal and glad it translated to sales.
The real shocks is the hardware sales, how did Nintendo get enough hardware. It's absolutely ridiculous

My God this is amazing, well deserved! and i thought Animal Crossing only this quarter would be low.surprised
I mean, we may not get first week sales higher than this, but there's still 2D Mario, Tomadachi Life, Nintendogs, and Mario Kart 9 they could put out to expand the userbase.

More mature games like Bayonetta, Metroid Prime, and the like aren't going to sell anywhere close to Animal Crossing, but they will expand the Switch audience to a different crowd.
speaking of Bayonetta, i read a few weeks ago it placed #2 most anticipated Switch games on a Famitsu poll, only after Animal Crossing (though AC of course was much higher numbers)
in hoping that one becomes a little surprise hit, anything can happen with the Switch

I never said the industry is doing badly or that Switch isn't doing well. Nice try, though.

One platform should not be expected to sell the same or more than 2 unique products. Consolidating product lines does not mean the new one will be wildly successful.

The WiiU was a failed system that did nothing but lose money. The 3DS needed a huge price slash 6 momths after launch to save it from disaster.

Comparing units sold is such a pointless metric

Not this old shit again. No one will ever sell 250 million consoles again so the comparison with Wii & DS is ridiculous.

For the 3DS and Wii U. Yes Switch is launch align selling more than those combined WW. Behind in Japan but that is because of the strength of 3DS not Wii U.

Not only will Switch sell more than 3DS and WiiU, Switch is making much more money than these systems.

The Switch doesn't need to sell like two platforms because it only has the costs associated with one platform.

If animal crossing had a 1 million + second week I'm just gonna be honest it's gonna best Ultimate's December opening shipments. I think currently 11 million for the quarter is likely.

Friendly that reminder that Wii+DS LTD in Japan is over 45 million units. Shouldn't take more than a few seconds to realize it's a dumb bar and a useless one at that.

As for digital ratio the only 5.980yen priced Nintendo game with less that 30% at launch since vouchers began is Luigi's Mansion 3.

edit: And even that wasn't very far from there.

Exactly.
It's the software sales (especially the first-party software sales since Nintendo is a first-party driven console manufacturer) that should be compared keeping in mind that on NSW games are usually priced higher than 3DS games, Nintendo is enjoying the benefit of developing on just one architecture instead of two and the considerable growth of the digital business grants Nintendo higher profitability from its software (higher margins on digital sales).

Speaking about female users on Switch, if I had to take a guess in the dark I'd expect a new Style Boutique for next fall and a new Tomodachi for spring next year.
