It also just is that different consoles have different curves at the end of the day. Keeping up with console X throughout every point of its life is not necessary to sell similarly or even more than console X.

Wouldn't surprise me, personally, if Switch did well in Japan at the end of the day (20 million plus) but failed to reach 3DS numbers but that is in no way necessitated by falling behind now. I think we need to see how the Switch evolves particularly as things like Labo, Smash, Pokemon, AC, and 2D Mario hit it but also just in general as all sorts of software arrives (or fails to arrive), as we get price cuts, as we get revisions, etc.

The moment Nintendo drop the price of the Switch, demand is going to soar like crazy in Japan. That's why comparisons with the 3DS are futile. Switch is significantly more expensive than 3DS was at this point in its life. The fact that the Switch hasn't needed an emergency price cut is good, not bad.
I guess so. It's still on the expensive side, $50 more than what the 3DS and Vita launched at that was deemed too expensive.
I don't think Nintendo can go all year without doing something to the hardware (revision, price drop, or bundle) if they want to maintain momentum, but it's their first system in awhile to not need something like that to be successful. I think even the DS had the lite come out a year and a half post launch

I really am confused as to what the Switch could change in a revision though.

Better build quality? Sure, but this should be done for the base model instead of making it a revision.
Changed form? Not sure that will work at all with how the joycons and Labo work.
Better battery? Yes, this is needed and would be great.
Real D-pad? I would love this, but this looks like a design decision by Nintendo that I'm not sure they'll change.
Super high quality, like OLED or something, screen? I guess I could maybe see this?

Not sure what a Switch revision would look like.

Wrt revisions, what exactly did the DS Lite change? I get that it is more attractive and has a better form factor for pockets. Was there anything else it brought to the table?

A N3DS-like revision is easier to understand--a somewhat more powerful Switch.

They have to get off 20nm fab as it's literally a dead node, and would cost a fortune to produce into late 2018.

16nm will afford, for the same FF, better battery use or some boosts of performance but not really appreciable games on both. They'd get more out of battery boosts.

It's a platform issue in Japan as far as some of these sales are concerned. I'm NOT port-begging, but it seems that games such as NNK2 and VC4 would perform better on Switch. We will know soon enough on VC4 if I am right or not

Please tell me it's happening.

It's going to be another fucking pachislot, isn't it?
Not sure why, but I've always liked the Goemon IP.
Don't think I've played any of the games for more than 30 minutes, tho.

Not sure if the franchise is popular enough for gambling, though I guess there is a bit of a money focus and they can use the pipe as a lever or something.

A dream of mine is to have a Goemon in a game sized comparable to the Breath of the Wild.

There's already been 2 Geomon pachislot games.

Pretty sure that's not happening in a post implosion Konami, lol

Don't worry, it wouldn't have happened even in a pre-implosion Konami :P

Yep, in recent years that's all the franchise has had in regards to new products, well that and some cameos on mobile games. I'm still bitter at Konami for not bringing Toukai Douchuu for the DS stateside; even though that game had a lot of the unnecessary gimmicks that most early DS games had, the humor and music typical of the series was still strong there and it was imo one the best looking DS games.

But yeah, not getting my hopes up for now.

The thing about the switch is its already using the biggest battery nintndo could possibly use that will fit inside the switch while still being able to still call it a handheld hybrid, I dont know what people mean when they just blurt out to get a better battery or what have you

My understanding from following climate change closely was that batteries were improving greatly each year (batteries are the most expensive investment needed to switch over to mostly non-carbon energy in the United States so they're hugely important to climate change) so better battery technology could come in the near future for electronic devices as well was my guess.

Without better battery life... I'm not sure what a Switch revision could have, So if better battery life isn't able to happen...

did we ever talk about detective pikachu?

I guess 100k isn't out of the question

What will be interesting to watch is if Smash kills ARMs and Pokken or not.

Was part 2 released digitally stand alone on the eShop?
I do wonder if that might have had a negative effect on the retail release.
Did we ever hear how well the first part did?

VC4 runs on a PS3 engine with PS3 assets, lol.

I don't think either is true?
Media Vision already stated long ago in interviews that they had to change a lot of things for the PS4 remaster including the engine and it was already heavily implied that it was done in preparation for a new episode (that was way before VC4 was officially revealed)

As for PS3 assets I'm not sure what it means in the first place, VC1 asets maybe? But as shown in the PC port years ago they scaled rather nicely even when shooting for 4k résolution, the wording "PS3 assets" doesn't really mean much in that case.
Considering VC4 is a new game I assume there are a lot of new assets for which PS3 was never a consideration in the first place, it may look similar at first glance but that's up to artistic direction first and foremost.

If there are a lot of recycled assets between VC & VC4 I'm legitimely curious though, if you have any link on that would be welcome.

Anyway considering VC was an internal Sega AAA project in 2009 and VC4 a mid-budget outsourced entry it's not that surprising that they would look similar on a surface level, tools middlewares engines and knowhow changed a lot since then though.

I think it'll be a very slow start, but with a FW/LTD ratio one of the highest we've seen.

That said I would be surprised if it more than tripled my expectations.

I think better battery life is what people actually mean when they say better battery.

Using a more advanced chip (even just the tegra X2) should allow them to have significantly better battery life at the same power output with the same battery.

Pokemon Red/Blue/Green had a 140k FW and ended with over 10m LTD. I think that's definitely the highest ratio.

Brain Age had a FW of 44k and sold nearly 4m, which is also really impressive.

Someone should make a thread about that actually.
