Who cares about Animal Crossing, they're obviously all here for Resident Evil. lolThose lines are really for Switch and Animal Crossing (and maybe RFA?) like for reals? Holy shit
Switch 2 won't come out in 2024. Fall 2023 would be the latest (reminder that this is 3 years after PS5/XSX launch) and I think late 2022 or Spring 2023 make more sense.
Also, even if you are joking, please don't claim to know things if you don't.
Other companies are releasing their multiplayer games every year, Call of Duty, Fifa and the likes...BOTW is getting a sequel so fast because it's a singleplayer game

7 years is not a normal life cycle for a Nintendo system.Yeah I apologize for that, thought it was a harmless joke since it shouldn't be taking serious. Won't happen again.
But that's a normal life cycle, you really think switch2 will come out at that time? There are a couple factors we have to look at here....
Are we even sure next gen is releasing this fall? How long are shortages going last 2020? Production isn't fully up yet intill...? Next model and how many more and as well as a price cut that hasn't happened or probably won't intill earliest 2021 holiday? Fall 2022 isn't even a full 6 years so earliest is spring 2023 but I can see 2024 fall
I still don't think that's gonna work out. with next gen coming, I think 2021 will show some slowdown (in the west, probably not as much in japan). still banking on Fall 2022/Winter 2023 for a switch successorFor whatever it's worth Nintendo has repeated a number of times now at investor briefings that they want the Switch to have a longer than normal life cycle.
It's more likely to be 6+ than 5 most the successful Nintendo systems were 6 years and this combines two lines so it's actually fairly unique historically. We'll get a refresh most likely but they'll be no rush for a new gen since even Nintendo themselves know how hit and miss they they to be.7 years is not a normal life cycle for a Nintendo system.
The Famicon and the Super Famicon had about 7 years apart (the NES to SNES was less than 6 though). The Gameboy is also a little unique because it went from Gameboy (1989) to Gameboy Pocket (1996) to Gameboy Color (1998) to Gameboy Advance (2001) and there was very little improvement tech-wise until the Advance.
Other than that we have:
SNES (Fall 1991) --> N64 (June/September 1996) ~5 years
N64 --> Gamecube (September/ November 2001) ~5 years
Gamecube --> Wii (November 2006) ~5 years
Wii --> Wii U (November 2012) ~ 6 years
Wii U --> Switch (March 2017) ~4.5 years
GBA (March/June 2001) --> DS (November 2004) ~3.5 years
DS --> 3DS (March 2011) ~6.25 years
3DS --> Switch (March 2017) ~6 years
History puts the likelihood of release between 5 and 6 years.

Yeah, besides I still firmly believe that Nintendo will follow Iwata's initial idea of an expanding brand ala iOS-devices and releasing subsequent revisions and upgrades of the Switch instead of a Switch 2 "restart". Maybe they'll even call it Switch 2 but it won't be like some people are expecting.For whatever it's worth Nintendo has repeated a number of times now at investor briefings that they want the Switch to have a longer than normal life cycle.
We have moved from possibility to almost certainity.The option that New Horizons will outsell New Leaf lifetime sales this year is on the table.
This is exactly what will happen. The whole point of 'a long shelf life' is to keep sales at 18-20 million a year for as long as they can. They only have one platform so they will want to keep that going strong. Mid gen upgrades will be the way to go and I think they will call it Switch 2 but that's just a guess. Switch might last 20 years but not in traditional console cycles.Yeah, besides I still firmly believe that Nintendo will follow Iwata's initial idea of an expanding brand ala iOS-devices and releasing subsequent revisions and upgrades of the Switch instead of a Switch 2 "restart". You said Fall 2024 which is where I got the 7 years from. I guess I misinterpreted what you were saying about normal life cycles.Never said 7 years is a normal life cycle, i was telling you what you said is a normal life cycle.
That said history doesn't mean much when it comes to Switch, it's not following any trend. It's the first of its kind and Nintendo also wants a longer life cycle for it

Now we're talkingYou people have it the wrong way.
MK8 Deluxe will be ported to the Switch 2 when it releases.
Let's face it, the only reason MK8 got ported is because Wii U was a a failure.0 as in Nada? As in 0%? As in Impossible? Who do you know that works for Nintendo and how did you acquire this information?
On a more serious note, this is the first time a Mario kart game is a port and we haven't got one this generation. So there is no guarantee on if it's coming or not. No pattern, no history unless your sticking to the 1 per generation (per console)?
I still believe there can be a Mario kart 9 on switch (then a port of a deluxe version) especially if it's having a much longer life than a normal console
Please don't apologise. It was clearly a joke - as soon as I read your post I could tell it was a joke. People here need to stop obsessing over every little thing and especially stop obsessing over so-called insiders. Lighten up, please.Yeah I apologize for that, thought it was a harmless joke since it shouldn't be taking serious. Won't happen again.

It makes sense for sports games because they can update the roster and make a bunch more money, and the other ones because they don't have any other IP to release.Other companies are releasing their multiplayer games every year, Call of Duty, Fifa and the likes...

tbh there's no way it only sells 14-15 million this year, unless things truly take most of the year to resolve stock wise. without the virus, this was looking to be the peak year, it should still be like 17-18 imoFY
2016: 2.92mil (Launch)
2017: 15.05mil (Shortages/etc)
2018: 16.95mil
2019: *20mil+ (Switch Lite)
Total: 55mil (3years and 1quarter)
-Shortages and showing huge demand over the hardware as of now.
-another model or 2? (None will come out in 2020)
-Still haven't seen a price cut and as of now it doesn't even need it so there is still room to breathe for a longer lifespan
I think with all this the switch will continue on longer than usual. It's not looking like a 5/6year console no more imo. More of a 7/8year one
Edit: here is an example of what is a possibility to happen.

With Switch being their only platform, they will never want to allow 4 years of Switch selling sub 15 million numbers. They will want to keep it as high as possible for as long as possible and that's why they will need new hardware models.FY
