Welp while I mentioned it, there's a high chance that it misses 2018.
What do people think on Kingdom Hearts 3 sales anyway? It's been so long since the last mainline game. I think 2 did over a million, but then the PS2 was a much more popular console.
Best start hoping the PS4 doesn't maintain this level of sales otherwise the PS3 may start beating it launch aligned.
No date and I doubt it's a 2018 release, but I think it's worth mentioning when talking about future PS4 SW that can help HW sales a bit.

That is one brutal week. 40k for Switch doesn't look too bad, considering.
Some positive highlights:
Hyrule Warriors with a soft drop (it's going to need it to go through that first shipment)
Ni no Kuni has respectable legs, certainly more than VC4
Far Cry 5 is doing its thing
Mario Kart doesn't drop as much as any other Switch evergreen, this game will outlive us all

Well, to be fair, this week's drop for PS4 is particularly hard, even for stationary consoles.
Hisa-Kun was kind enough to post the graph, It would take a while but if the trajectory doesn't generally change it's possible.
Heard that the people said that, based on the last two original games (BBS and DDD), the franchise is in decline.
Kingdom Hearts II sold about 4 million, according to VGChartz. I know their figures aren't the most accurate, but it is a good indication that the game did alright. The question is... can it reach that now?
I'd personally expect it to sell about 2-3 million.
that's a shame, was wondering because if I'm not mistaken western style open worlds have been gaining steam in Japan. felt like maybe that paired with the spider man IP could move the needle
He is asking about sellthrough in Japan, not Global shipments.
I would say best case scenario would be around 800k if the game is amazing and pushed hard. I cant see it outsell XV, even with the games mixed reactions.
Splatoon 2 is way bigger than DQXI PS4 (and the future NSW release) and will keep being an evergreen for the whole gen as I don't expect Nintendo to bother with a Splatoon 3 anytime soon.

Depends. Splatoon 2 won't stop selling for years, so it's quite likely it'll go over 4 million units sold. At that point, it's only 400k to beat the best-selling Dragon Quest game (DQIX at 4.4M). So yeah, I think Splatoon 2 will sell more than the best-selling Dragon Quest game. The Dragon Quest franchise still is bigger, of course, with selling power in many spinoffs (a domain in which Splatoon is as of yet untested), but if your measure is best-selling single entry, then Splatoon should be bigger in a couple of years.
I have this feeling that all the spin-off games over the years have given KH a case franchise fatigue.
4 million was worldwide, not Japan. W1 sales in Japan were 730K, and I wouldn't think KH3 would do that on a much lower userbase. I don't know what KH2 lifetime sales were though.
In that case, about 1.3 million in Japan, according to VGChartz. In any case, I agree that KH3 probably won't reach the same numbers.
Its been so many years since a proper KH game, People want KH3.

The all versions numbers include the Final Mix rereleases of the two games on the PS2, but not the HD remixes on newer systems.
That REALLY isn't the most reliable site to get numbers from.
