The only PS4 game that is guaranteed to sell over 100k lifetime sales this quarter is Days Gone. EDF is the other candidate but maybe it will make it, maybe not.

Next quarter is also weak but it's still soon and something bigger could be dated for September. For now, Pro Baseball Spirits in July and Shenmue in August are the titles that will go at 6 digits.

In any case these 6 months will be tough for PS4, there isn't software that will move hardware. A price drop later this year is given and Sony will likely have another aggressive promotion for December.

I don't think the PS4 sales are that bad given that they were in the same range this time last year. I do wonder if we will see another PS4 game do above 100,000 in first week sales soon. Heck, for the PS4's future in general the only other games I see selling above 100,000 in Japan are Sakura Wars, Code Vein, and Persona 5 The Royal.
there's plenty of in development PS4 games that can do it e.g. Tales of, more Yakuza stuff, maybe another Atlus game, maybe Granblue Fantasy Relink. nothing that's dated for this year yet though.

Outside of Relink, everything you mentioned has yet to be announced, I was going off of what we know. Although on the topic of Granblue, I can see Granblue Versus doing above 100k on its first week too.

Man Zelda has become a mega franchise with one very exceptional entry. I wonder how other titles will perform after botw.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes has best debut for Dragon Ball game since... Dragon Ball Heroes X. DB FighterZ "only" did 59k at launch (on PS4).

I'd say 200k is a lock for this one, if it has the same legs as previous games (all 200k, with 300k for the first one).
thats awesome! i have been playing the game since launch and it is fantastic.

Mediacreate :(

Awesome Zelda numbers!

Yoshi is low tbh, I was expecting bigger numbers.

Ninja Box from Bandai Namco looks more and more like a Yokai Watch clone with Minecraft shoved in with at least some minimal efforts than another classic kids cashgrab. Could see it selling decent.

It's still an ugly game. Give a resolution bump to the first Youkai Watch game and it looks better than this. Then again, people bought Run For Money.

Do you think its second week will keep it in the top 10 ? EDF5 was big but I heard hype was not that strong with this entry.

After that there will be Days Gone.

It's debut will tell better, but also note that the bar to enter the top 10 is just 6,300 this week and will probably be lower the following.
Only if there is a completely disaster, it won't be in the top 10. Sekiro might also be there since its drops are smaller than other titles of the same gender.

I think the bar will be higher in the upcoming weeks because there will be more new releases. Next week has 3 games that should launch in the top 10 (EDF, Final Fantasy, Labo).

Shenmue in August are the titles that will go at 6 digits.
Do you think Shenmue III is comparable to Judgment, but without famous actors? I feel Yakuza fatigue and the passing of time (most fans of the original have probably already quit console gaming) is something that could negatively impact the sales of this game, but Judgment sold pretty well despite being Reused Yakuza Assets: The Game.

Yeah, but Yakuza is losing sales, so at least we know there's some fatigue.

Oh definitely, but Shenmue III and Judgment are both interesting games, since they're both close to Yakuza in terms of inspiration, genre and audience, but they aren't Yakuza. Obviously they're developed by different studios as well, not sure about the differences in budget, but they're targetting the same people. So I'm wondering how Shenmue III's sales should compare to Judgment's. I don't expect Shenmue III to sell over 150k FW -> 300k units lifetime (maybe I'm wrong), but I wonder what is reasonable to expect for this game.

Curious how Switch will hold up in April with hardware sales. There is Labo, FFX & X2, FFXII, Dragon's Dogma, and Mortal Kombat 11. In addition to that a bunch of indie and niche titles mixed in. Nothing on this list would likely persuade someone new to purchasing a Switch but it does well to support and build audiences that enjoy these kind of games. I'm thinking it will not drop below 40k at it's worse and will rebound in June with MM2.

Under half of the games in the top 10 came out this year. Not sure if that means something or not.

does ps4 hit 10m? ps5 might be two years away in japan but i don't know about doing another 2m even with japan's relatively slower adoption rate of new playstation platforms.

The Stussining
Not gonna lie I was hoping DBH would debut a little higher then it did in the end. Still it's a good starting number and hopefully it has good legs as well.

Rest of the year is gonna be quite the sight as Switch is gonna dominate and only a handful of PS4 titles will be able to crack 6 figures I feel. Now if Japanese devs were smart and went all in when it was clear the Switch would be huge 2 years ago. They should have plenty of stuff to release for the later half of this year. If they weren't and only started hoping on the Switch train last year. I think the holidays are gonna be especially brutal to any company not releasing a title on the Switch. Hell maybe even the rest of the year too.
