700k is exactly what I predicted so I'm patting myself on the back. It seems to be the ceiling for FF debut launches this generation as it's almost exactly as much as FFXV.

Somewhere. I think.
That Switch drop, yikes. Expected, but still yikes. Stopping shipments won't do wonders to your sales, that's for sure.

Looks like it's super-long run at #1 was going to end even with smaller HW bump for PS4.

For comparison: FFXV's first week sales were 716,649 (Famitsu).

Wow didn't expect the NSWL shortages to be worse than the normal Switch

Smash outsells Pokemon two weeks in a row. Could it really happen? :D

Holy shit at the switch shortages

I actually did expect FF7 to do more but the digital ratio has probably gone up compared to FFXV

That's pretty good.

And man they weren't kidding when they said they were out of Switch units.

Pretty mediocre retail debut for FFVII. Of course we're missing digital sales but that should be one of the most anticipated games of all time being the remake of one of the best selling and more beloved games of all time in Japan. The FF franchise isn't as relevant in Japan as it used to be, even for legacy titles. Also, PS4 is really on its last stride.

Looks like it's super-long run at #1 was going to end even with smaller HW bump for PS4.

Fortunately, this is the week Switch shipments outside of lotteries and reservations are resuming, so numbers will definitely be higher. By how much, though? That's the biggest question.

Looking at the software sales you could have guess which Switch model suffered the most. Pokemon dropping double digits and Minecraft not even in the top 10 is another sign of how their audience are buying the Lite.

Famitsu states in the article that they expect higher than usual digital split for FF7R due the virus, so its probably safe to say that the game did at least 1-1.1M in Japan.

And... it is time to quote myself from last week's thread.

This is why I thought that people's reaction to someone's asking if PS4 this week could surpass Switch were off.

With the extremity of the shortages this week, Switch could theoretically end up at or under 50k (though I hope not), and PS4 could theoretically end up this week at, say, 70k if there are enough PS4/FFVIIR bundles (the game is basically given in those bundles for free) or even just due to the size of FFVIIR, no?

I'm not saying it will happen, but it is not as farfetched as people made it out to be, imo.

With digital FF might of topped 1mil but it's yet to be seen right now. I wonder what sell thru was. AC with 293k, very good especially when you notice only 25k new NSW owners.

I'm hoping AC holds out 150k next week and FF maybe 120k+
NSW going to be low so nope

Are we sure it's stock issues and not demand for the Switch quickly fading away?

Sorry for the bad Gematsu Media Create comment section impression.
AC is still beasting.

Oh good the delay was only one day.

Good performance for FF7. Surely cracked a milly with digital. Damn, PS4 hardware had a great week too.

Wonder how close AC is to 5m with digital. RIP Switch hardware though. Can't believe Seeking Alpha killed it with a single article.

I hope the FF digital numbers are huge.
Retail doesn't look good for 7R .
Look at XV that had a much smaller install base and was a controversial title, compared with a long requested remake from the most successful title in the series.
I remember 7Remake being announced early to push PS4 install base for XV.

Nintendo couldn't respond to the demand of Switchs on AC launch?
How they go to 150K (with 300K in previous weeks) to 20K? That sells were made on accumulated stock to respond to the launch?

Every single year that passes by the digital ratio is bigger. Even more so now during the pandemic.

I think AC should be around 200k next week. No reason to have a 50% drop when both previous weeks were around 30%.

Fantastic numbers for FF7 retail. I'm sure digital must be pretty high given the current situation

300k+ digital seems kinda high imo.

Looking at the Switch evergreens sales, it doesn't look like the virus impacted negatively retail sales. If anything, it probably helped given how stable the evegreens were despite the huge drop in hardware sales.

Japanese people saw FFVII and decided they didn't want Switch no more.

Time to wrap it up Nintendo.

Really good PS4 hardware numbers
