Notice I said "remotely possible" and I only thought that cause of Nintendo's popularity in Japan. I was sure Yoshi would get washed everywhere personally. I just didn't think it had a chance at all overseas due to FromSoftware's huge surge in popularity the past few years with Dark Souls entering meme territory
This didn't prevent Mario Odyssey from beeing a Holiday game
I guess it will depend on how leggy it is (and if the S version releases at the same time).
In the west October releases are definitely viewed as Holidays ones though
October is fall, by the time the holiday season starts everything released in October is "old". JRPG have no legs, so P5R is not really anything that will matter for the holiday season. That's my point.
Mario Odyssey released in October and wasn't considered "old" by the time the holidays came rolling around...
Wouldn't the Monster Hunter expansion be bigger? And we don't know what games will be cross gen like FF7R or the next GTA. There's a chance TLOU2 or ghost of Tsushima/Death Stranding could do well also.
That would be because it's Mario. JRPG's are extremely front loaded so I can see what Joseki was getting at.

Oh true! I did forget about Iceborne! That'll definitely be the PS4's last big hurrah before sailing off into the sunset.
I'm sure that the rest of those titles will be PS5 games now (except for Ghost of Tsushima; which will release on PS4 but won't sell well in Japan. It's a Western Combat Game. It'll tank). So they mean nothing for PS4 anymore.
Are we really comparing a new 3D Mario title on a system that hasnt had its first Holiday season yet and shortages - to a Persona 5 Re-release in 2019 ?
Joseki is right - cant just apply Ninten ever-green logic to every random 3rdParty release - especially for a JRPG re-release.
Having said that....P5R is def. the first bigger titles in that time frame for PS4 - so thats good for Sony.

Big western games flopping hasn't been true since the PS4 came out in Japan.

I think we're quibbling, but late october/early November isn't what I would call the real holiday season in Japan.
Holiday season starts november 1st prety much everywhere. Game releases october 31st. Let's not be semantic about this. Game is a holiday release. It will remain to be seen if it shares the same legs as P4G and vanilla P5 or not (two very leggy games)
They perform better and there are some great success (Spiderman, Horizon), but there are still a fair amount which are "niche" (hope I can borrow that word from you) like God of War, Detroit, Infamous.
Days Gone and Ghost of Tsushima may or may not fall in that later category, we'll see that soon enough.

You're right. By Joseki's logic, Spla2n would be a holiday release (it was a top seller in December 2017)
8 mil in a little over 2 years time, and that's without revisions, price drops or the major handheld heavy hitters even being out yet. Switch is almost guaranteed 20mil+ lifetime, if not 25+. Nintendo must be super happy with these results.
They won't do a direct on the same week as the conference call for the full year results
Well my original prediction was May 1st or 2nd for Mario Maker Direct but people swore to me Nintendo wouldn't leave April without news for Mario Maker

P5R will influence PS4 hardware as much as DLC influenced Smash sales this week. As in, it didn't in a significant way and people overestimate stuff because of Era's bubble.
Langrisser did the best debut in the franchise since Langrisser Millennium on DC in 1999, which did about 23k FW. Outside Langrisser III on Saturn, the franchise never did above 100k so can be considered a pretty niche one. The remake numbers show there's not much interest around nowadays.
Outside Spiderman, even big Sony games just crawled to 200k units. God of War is below 150k units. Western Sony games are still relatively small and definitely not big sellers.

The Joker and 3.0 update video already has more views than the last Smash Direct i think it doesn't really matter if it's livestreamed or not, they really should start promoting SMM2 already i don't know what is taking them so long.
It's not 1:1 though as there's many, many people who do not watch the official Nintendo stream when watching live. Some ways the YouTube stream, some watch the Twitch stream and a lot of people watch a long with content creators live reacting to the stream.
I don't think a random video drop comes close to the anticipation of a Nintendo live stream
Part of me thinks the reason MM2 hasn't been dated is its launching alongside Switch lite (or whatever its called) in June and they will be announced together.

BTW pretty weird seeing a modern country like Japan stopping for 10 whole days. How is the marketing reacting to that?

That seems to be case anyway it wouldn't hurt to show a bit more information even if they don't date the game but at this point they will have to do a big info drop so i do expect it will be when they're ready to reveal the new revision.
Sure. Just saying that in the eyes of someone those big Western Sony games are definitely niche in Japan and doesn't make much difference hardware-wise.
