Japan is great, June is not. Although in recent polls June is only the 3rd most hated month, more people hate August and February. It makes sense as those months have most extreme weather. June is kind of just a slog, fortunately it is only a 30 day month.
But... but... August is comiket month! (and also Summer Sonic but who cares about that)

As a layperson in this matter, what does the 109pts (23 pre orders) represent for example with COMG and DKTF?

I see people saying the Switch version as pretty much the same pre orders (23) as the Wii U....does 109 mean nothing?

It's just literally 109 people bought the game at their stores. You can extrapolate very little based on that.

I see people extrapolating COMG numbers and making overall weekly sales predictions all the time..
The "all the time" part is what annoys me. It's one part of the entire picture but it's literally just a chain retailer. You can't base your wholesale speculation solely on their numbers just like you can't expect how a product sells just because Target's got inventory left.

Hmm...I'll try again, maybe I'll word it better.

Many times in this thread, and others, I've seen people use COMG pre order numbers to speculate on what the week sales might be.

Many people have speculated that the Switch DKTF will sell this week about the same as the Wii U because the COMG pre order numbers were similar.

Ok, I get that.

Wouldn't the actual sales number, in this case 109, for COMG that week be a better predictor than the pre order number?

Oh, I was just assuming he was asking about preorder numbers, is all. If you wanted to know about Switch over Wii U for comg, it's essentially 28 or so more people average per store.

109 > 81

Preorder numbers are usually used because comg releases preorder numbers every day. So you see how the trend grows or falls for the game before release. And that's what people use to speculate.

I don't know if it's already mentioned.

Geo stores:

- DKC: TF Switch version sales are 2.5 times superior than Wii U version FW.
- Snack World and Kirby sold more units than last week.

Edit: lol

Amazing for Donkey Kong !

I think that the successful release of the SFC/SNES last year might have make create some constructive nostalgia around the DKC series.

Using Google Translate from Japanese:

"Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze" for Nintendo Switch debuted in first. With the addition of additional elements from the Wii U version, the release in the Japanese Golden Week and the effect of vast TV commercials showed a 2.5x increase in sales and a strong start compared to the first week sales of the Wii U version. Other classics Switch softwares such as "Star Kirby Star Allize" and "Snack World Treasures Gold" has grown bigger than the previous week.

so if we imply this is a trend across the retailers, we should get about 89K

Dengeki data is out:

http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/001/722/1722937/

Compared to MC, they report lower sales for GoW... in fact, it's below the Variety Kit for some reason.

MC: 29k
Famitsu: 22k
Dengeki: 24k

Was there some sort of special bundle or deal at Amazon? Looking at second week drop, MC has by far the best one.

Oh, just noticed there was also a big discrepancy in PS4 numbers between MC and Famitsu/Dengeki. Guess there was a GoW bundle or something?

Do you have other examples that corraborate such extrapolation?
Are there the same number of geo stores compared to when the WiiU version was released? Do they sell more, less or the same amount of games? Did Geo had any incentive to entice customers to buy the game at a Geo store instead of somewhere else? Etc.

Unless you can answer at least a couple of these questions it's no better than using Comgnet

dude, chill out.
we just used this info: https://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/1120344.html and multiplied 2,5 times the Famitsu and Media Create numbers.

It's not like I'm writing something for Nature or any other academic publication, just having some fun with numbers.

Hey, at least Octopath has banners. If it's just the boxart missing, it's not really a big issue...
