Hey, at least Octopath has banners. If it's just the boxart missing, it's not really a big issue...

Dengeki data is out:

http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/001/722/1722937/

Compared to MC, they report lower sales for GoW... in fact, it's below the Variety Kit for some reason.

MC: 29k
Famitsu: 22k
Dengeki: 24k

Was there some sort of special bundle or deal at Amazon? Looking at second week drop, MC has by far the best one.

Oh, just noticed there was also a big discrepancy in PS4 numbers between MC and Famitsu/Dengeki. Guess there was a GoW bundle or something?

WOW, the difference for Naruto on Switch vs PS4:

14./00. [PS4] Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy (Bandai Namco Games) {2017.07.27} - 4,711 / NEW

No retail release in europe was quite the stupid decision considering how well Switch perform in France, Spain and co. and post XV2.

While I would love nothing more than to see DK do great, I feel like we've been down that road before. Seeing sign of a debut greater than it really is on the last days. I remember it happening with Xenoblade 2 and, to a lesser extent, Snack World. Better be patient before celebrating a 80k opening.

YSO predicted that the game would be around 40k. 80k would more than smashing expectations and maybe a tad unrealistic.

I think that even 50k/60k would be a good debut for the game.

They both released pretty much exactly where we expected them to taking into account the positive reports.

Days before numbers are out for a game enthusiasm tends to blow out reasonnable expectations when there are good signs.
This is exactly what happened with Xenoblade 2 and various other games (can't say I remember Snack World as the game wasn't significant enough sales wise at launch for me to keep a close eye one)

Counter examples like Monster Hunter World do exist though.

Those are people with hyper optimistic predictions that's not the same expectations for sales. Even then the most of the optimistic expectations where 10-20k off which is roughly 10-20% off which isn't an insane margin of error considering what your dealing with.

They both released roughly where YSO said they would, while late positive signs made the thread go too optimistic. Unless you forgot how everyone reacted when XB2 opened at 90k when there was talk of 120+ the whole week.

I think 50k would be great given what we know.

edit: though I admit that a retail chain store saying that the game did 2.5x times better than the Wii U verion is more tangible than whatever we had for Xeno.

It opened above 90k (97,722) and 120k was an optimistic expectation. Above 100k was the typical and since it didn't debut above 100k you had the typical nonsenical reponse but it was still the biggest debut for the game in series as expected and extremely close to 100k. In this case YSO predicts and extraordinary low drop for next week implying a higher than they expected debut similar to ARMS.

Never doubt the Kong, with a strong opening it should end up at 110-135K for May.

M-C 2018 Switch Top 10:
1) Splatoon 2 - 502.717
2) Kirby Star Allies(2018) - 451.439
3) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 365.042
4) Super Mario Odyssey - 307.434
5) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 198.227
6) Mario + Rabbids(2018) - 167.333
7) Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 01: Variety Kit(2018) - 116.324
8) 1-2 Switch - 77.792
9) Arms - 65.975
10) The Snack World: TreJarers Gold(2018) - 61.984

- Kirby should be the second Switch game to surpass 500K this year, most likely right after GW.

- MK8D, Labo Variety or Mario Tennis Aces are looking like the three most likely games to surpass 500K next for 2018.
MK8D needs 135K to reach 500K for 2018 and at the current pace it's likely going to be July that it reaches 500K.
I'm bullish on Mario Tennis Aces and expect it to surpass 500K by the end of August - think it has a good chance at opening at over >150K. Personally I think it has a chance of being the best selling Mario Tennis game in Japan. Mario Tennis on N64 is the highest selling game in the franchise with >200K opening and >800K sales.
Labo Variety will be over >200K by the end of May - I expect it to slow down during June and pick up again towards the end of July. By the end of the summer vacation I'd expect Variety pack to sell over 500K due to strong weeks during Obon.

- The Snack World: TreJarers <RPG> (Level 5) {2017.08.10} (¥4.800) – 232.743
The Switch version Snack World is looking likely to end up outselling the 3DS version. So far it has been the best performing 3rd party game of 2018 outside of Mario+Rabbids. Depending on the boost we see this week Snack World might end up with close to 80K sales. If it continues to display similar legs it should be close to 150K before the end of July. 85K of sales for the rest of the year don't look unreachable

- DKTF I feel I need to see how it performs after May, but it has a decent chance at hitting 200K before the end of July - I honestly expect it to perform better than Mario+Rabbids.

- This week will be interesting to see which out of DQB, AOT2, 1-2 Switch, Arms, DBX2, Mario+Rabbids and Pokken make a return to the chart.

Maybe I'm going a bit high on optimism after reading the Geo Store statement and how good it has performed on Amazon right now But I feel DKCTF will outperform both of your numbers predicted, maybe not by much but still. Will be interesting to see the first sign on Wednesday :)

Looks like the base PS4 slim is sold out on Amazon JP. They expect another shipment on the 12th.

How's this year's Powerful Pro Baseball?

Would be nice to hear from resetera members. Amazon reviews are not that good -- saying it's buggy and calling Konami lazy.

Either a huge Amazon shipment (which... I doubt at this scale) or MC is tracking some wide-spread, otherwise unknown bundle or correcting for previous week under-counting based on their estimates.

Such a weirdly large discrepancy.

I have no idea tbh. I was thinking to import it, but haven't done it in the end for other reasons. But if those Amazon reviews call Konami out for bugs, they better be patching it quickly. Looks like most reviews are about the bugs and not really about intended features, so a quick patch should do the deal. It will definitely hurt the game's legs tho, which are very dependent on WoM marketing.

I don't think a 20% price reduction on both versions on Amazon is a good sign either...

(edit: maybe it's been rushed to release in time for Golden Week?)

Mobile Revenues Account for More Than 50% of the Global Games Market as It Reaches $137.9 Billion in 2018

Japanese Gamers Spend the Most, making it the #3 Country Globally

The Japanese gaming market will still be the third-largest in the world in 2018 (behind the United States and China), growing +15.1% year on year to $19.2 billion. Due to the continued success of mobile gaming companies in Japan, we increased our estimate for Japan's mobile games market for the second time in a year. This means its mobile games market is now nearly the same size as North America's with roughly one-third of the number of gamers. In fact, Japanese gamers spend most of any country, particularly for mobile games. The average spend per payer in Japan is 1.5 times higher than in North America, and more than 2.5 times higher than in Western Europe.

China alone will account for more than one-quarter of all global game revenues, reaching $37.9 billion this year. It will remain the number one gaming market by revenues and by number of players. Mobile is the dominant force and will generate 61% of revenues in 2018, growing to 70% of the market by 2021.

Global_Games_Market_per_Region_2018.png

In total, the APAC territories will generate $71.4 billion, or 52% of total global game revenues. This represents a +17.0% year-on-year increase, nearly all of which is attributable to mobile; the segment will grow $9.7 billion year on year to $44.7 billion in 2018. The APAC territories are a primary driver of continued growth for the global games industry, as the number of smartphone users in emerging markets such as India and Southeast Asia grows exponentially and, at the same time, the willingness to spend on mobile games grows in more established markets like China and Japan.

You aren't wrong
In the UK at the moment the trilogy is #11 in the eShop charts and Ninja Storm 3 is #15, I was quite surprised to see that.
So I just checked the best sellers for the U.S eshop and the trilogy is number 2, I have to imagine it was number 1 before donkey kong come out, this port got like no hype, im pretty sure it wasent even in the coming soon section, are there even commercials for this?

brazil, unfortunately
There are two Switch games relasing in (or on? I suck at prepositions) the next two months: Mario Tenis on June 22 and Octopatch on July 13.

On July 31 theres the Splatoon DLC and august may see the release of Smash Bros.

Things might start to look better for the system in the near future.

I think the Splatoon DLC (it was leaked by Nintendo Germany iirc) will be on July 13th alongside Octopath and Captain Toad. Basically, Summer is packed for the Switch :

June 8th : Sushi Strikers
June 22th : Mario Tennis Aces
June 29th : Ys VIII

July 10th : Crash Bandicoot --> not dated in Japan
July 12th : Shining Resonance Refrain
July 13th : Octopath Traveler
July 13th : Captain Toad
July 13th : Splatoon DLC ?
July 19th : Sonic Mania Plus
July 26th : Wolfenstein II
July 26th : Mega Man X Collection 1&2
July 26th : Disgaea Remake

Other Summer titles :

- Dark Souls Remastered
- Inazuma Eleven
- Taiko
- Ark
- Minecraft retail release ?
- Valkyria Chronicles 1&4 --> probably delayed to Q4
- Okami
- Crash Bandicoot ?

VC1 and VC4 are fall titles. But yeah, there's quite some titles by the end of July.

Yeah, it was announced a couple of weeks ago that the Switch version would launch in the fall. The VC1 discount with VC4 was probably a kind of an apology.
